Holy Star Blazers! Live action Space Battleship Yamoto footage
Posted by LiveFor on January 1, 2010
SPACE BATTLESHIP ヤマトis the live action adaption of the old Japanese cartoon that was redubbed and called Star Blazers in the West. I remember watching some of it as a kid and I loved the fact it was an old ocean going battleship that was turned into a spacecraft (are you listening Peter Berg?) It was a cracking design concept.
Set in 2220, the pic will depict the evacuation of 300 million people from Earth to avoid certain death from an expanding black hole. The Yamato, a space battleship, is leading the rescue fleet when it is attacked by an alien force.
Takuya Kimura, the member of the SMAP entertainment unit known to Japanese fans as “KimuTaku,” will star as the main hero Susumu Kodai in the remake of the space opera classic. Kimura also starred as the title character in the Howl’s Moving Castle animated film released in 2004.
Check out the footage below. It looks bloody good.
Space Battleship Yamato will be released in December 2010 in Japan.

We should be fine here in America as long as Harmony Gold don’t get their greedy hands on it.

the december 2010 release date might be pushed back, as kimura reportedly is pushing for re-shoots and CGI improvements for a snazzier finished product. he even agreed to a pay cut to fund the extra costs. watching AVATAR reportedly made him want to step it up. =D

I just about soiled my pants when I saw this. Holy Shit! I’ve got the complete first season of “Star Blazers”. I too was a little kid when I saw the show. It was awesome (for a 10 year-old!) and inspired years of Lego and Tente ship building. I cannot wait for this movie. I am hyper-ventilating now. Thanks for the post!.
