Here is a new image from the Let the Right One In remake by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield). It shows Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road). It actually doesn’t look too bad.
The LA Times had the pic and an interview with Reeves.
A respectful devotee of both the original novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist as well as the first film, Reeves understands the concerns of those with strong feelings for the original. He had his own reservations about the remake and corresponded with Lindqvist, who also wrote the script for “Let The Right One In,” before taking on the project.
“I think because of ‘Cloverfield,’ people have an assumption, which is, ‘Oh, crazy handicam, he’s going to jazz it up,’ “ Reeves said. “And I think that’s probably what a lot of people were afraid of when they thought of the most cynical version. And that’s the last thing we tried to do. We tried to create the approaching, foreboding dread of movies like ‘The Shining,’ where you feel like something wicked is unraveling and it’s not going to end well. That’s what I responded to about the original, the juxtaposition of those tones, this very disturbing story but at the center of it there are these very tender emotions. That’s a very unusual mix, and that’s what drew me in and dug into me.”

I know many of you don’t really want a remake of Let the Right One In, but there’s nothing we can do about it. Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) is directign it and Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) is playing Abby. Overture Film’s have released this first look at Moretz from the film. Doesn’t really tell us much.
Directed by: Matt Reeves
Screenplay by: Matt Reeves
Cast: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz and Richard Jenkins
An alienated 12-year-old boy befriends a mysterious young newcomer in his small New Mexico town, and discovers an unconventional path to adulthood in Let Me In, a haunting and provocative thriller written and directed by filmmaker Matt Reeves (Cloverfield).
Twelve-year old Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee – The Road) is viciously bullied by his classmates and neglected by his divorcing parents. Achingly lonely, Owen spends his days plotting revenge on his middle school tormentors and his evenings spying on the other inhabitants of his apartment complex. His only friend is his new neighbor Abby (Chloe Moretz), an eerily self-possessed young girl who lives next door with her silent father (Oscar®nominee Richard Jenkins). A frail, troubled child about Owens’s age, Abby emerges from her heavily curtained apartment only at night and always barefoot, seemingly immune to the bitter winter elements. Recognizing a fellow outcast, Owen opens up to her and before long, the two have formed a unique bond.
When a string of grisly murders puts the town on high alert, Abby’s father disappears, and the terrified girl is left to fend for herself. Still, she repeatedly rebuffs Owen’s efforts to help her and her increasingly bizarre behavior leads the imaginative Owen to suspect she’s hiding an unthinkable secret.
The gifted cast of Let Me In takes audiences straight to the troubled heart of adolescent longing and loneliness in an astonishing coming-of-age story based on the best-selling Swedish novel Lat den Ratte Komma In (Let the Right One In) by John Ajvide Lindqvist, and the highly-acclaimed film of the same name.

Pre-production on David Fincher’s adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s novel, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, has begun. He is currently in Stockholm checking out locations for the shoot. Shooting is due to start filming in October.
According to The Playlist Fincher wants a “European look” for the film and is planning to shoot all the exteriors in Sweden. He is also keeping all the Swedish locations and not moving the story over to the USA which is a bit unusual for a remake.
No word on whether the characters of Lisbeth Salander or Mikael Blomqvist will be changed into being British or American.
No word on any casting and Carey Mulligan who has been rumoured to star in the remake has, so far, denied any involvement.
Do you want a remake of the film considering the original film was out last year (you can see the poster for the original above)? Who should star in it?

Back in December last year came news that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 director Keith Arem was making a movie called Frost Road. Details of the plot were quite vague – a small coastal Eastern town which is suddenly and inexplicably devastated by an invisible contagion.
Now Arem has given some more info about the plot while speaking to USA Today and it sounds rather good.
“It revolves around this man who wakes up behind the wheel of his car,” he told the paper. “He has crashed headfirst into this tree in the middle of this forest in the middle of nowhere. He comes to, he’s been injured. He’s bleeding from his head and thinks it is from this car crash. He finds a cell phone in the car and tries to call 911 and there’s a strange interference that is somehow blocking his call. He makes his way down to this town of Frost Road and finds that this entire town has died, everyone is gone and whatever happened just happened recently. For whatever reason, he is immune to what happened.”
“Our main character is immune to what is happening while something is affecting the townspeople. They are essentially ripping themselves apart,” Arem says. “It becomes a sort of a zombie film in reverse. Instead of this constant threat of being attacked by all these plagued victims, this becomes a story of survival and keeping these people alive.”
There is an official site for it but not much on it at the moment.

This adaption has been controversial due to the violence against women it portrays. Not sure why people have been surprised though as the book does deal with a bloke who is batshit nuts!
I’ve covered it quite a bit and it stars Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Ned Beatty, Bill Pullman and Elias Koteas
Based on the novel by legendary pulp writer Jim Thompson, Michael Winterbottom’s THE KILLER INSIDE ME tells the story of handsome, charming, unassuming small town sheriff’s deputy Lou Ford.
Lou has a bunch of problems. Woman problems. Law enforcement problems. An ever-growing pile of murder victims in his West Texas jurisdiction. And the fact he’s a sadist, a psychopath, a killer. Suspicion begins to fall on Lou, and it’s only a matter of time before he runs out of alibis.
But in Thompson’s savage, bleak, blacker than noir universe nothing is ever what it seems, and it turns out that the investigators pursuing him might have a secret of their own.

The film tells the story of a vigilante homeless man (Hauer) who pulls into a new city and finds himself trapped in urban chaos, a city where crime rules and where the city’s crime boss reigns. Seeing an urban landscape filled with armed robbers, corrupt cops, abused prostitutes and even a pedophile Santa, the Hobo goes about bringing justice to the city the best way he knows how – with a 20-gauge shotgun. Mayhem ensues when he tries to make things better for the future generation. Street justice will indeed prevail.
Director, Jason Eisener, had this to say about Hauer. “Working with Rutger Hauer is amazing,” he said. “I have to say, I was really intimidated at first because I’ve only worked with local actors. I’ve never worked with someone who’s had so much experience. We’re having a blast making this film.”
It also looks as if the Hobo will be hunted down by some Bounty Hunters known as The Plague and Nat Jones did this piece of concept art for them.

This does look like it is going to be hugely fun to watch when it gets released. A nice cheesy horror with a fantastic cast.
They’re back! Every year the population of sleepy Lake Havasu explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for a single, wild weekend – the 4th of July, a riot of sun, drunken fun and sex-crazed mayhem. But this year, theres something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers. Havasu sits in the crater formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption, and when earth tremors tear open a crack in the lake floor, all hell breaks through. Piranhas – a million ravenous, razor-toothed monsters, unchanged since the dawn of time. Unstoppable killing machines acting blindly under one primeval impulse: to hunt down anything that moves and strip it to the raw, bleeding bone
Directed by Alexandre Aja and starring Elisabeth Shue, Steven R. McQueen, Adam Scott, Ving Rhames, Richard Dreyfuss, Christopher Lloyd, Jerry O’Connell, Dina Meyer, Jessica Szohr, Riley Steele, Kelly Brook.
Due out on August 27th, 2010.

Paul Conroy is not ready to die.
But when he wakes up 6 feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival. Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery, and a dwindling oxygen supply become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time – fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only 90 minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare comes true.
Directed by Rodrigo Cortes. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Ivana Miño, Stephen Tobolowsky
Due out on September 24, 2010.

20th Century Fox have got the rights to Incognito – Marvels 2009 comic series by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. It is a very cool series with a great concept (kind of like Wanted in reverse) and I do love the main characters name, Zack Overkill. Here is the synopsis from Wiki.
The comic is set in a world in which larger-than-life pulp heroes and villains have existed since the early 1800s. The original super was an escaped convict named Kenneth Lee who went by the name the Black Death. His powers came from a radioactive object which landed in New England over 200 years ago. Other notable supers include the descendants of the soldiers who were chasing him including the Doc Savage-esque “Professor Zeppelin,” the Shadow-esque “Lazarus”. After WWII, the SOS agency created by Zeppelin has kept most stories about the supers out of the news.
The comic deals with former science villain Zack Overkill, who is in the Witness Protection Program after giving testimony against The Black Death. Zack is required to take a drug that eliminates his super abilities and given a job delivering mail in an office.
Trying to escape the boredom of a normal life, Zack experiments with illegal drugs. It quickly becomes obvious they interfere with the power-blocking drug and he once again has his super strength. He begins wearing a mask again and searches for action in the streets and back alleys acting as a vigilante rather than a supervillain to avoid being arrested for violating his parole agreement. His actions reveal to Black Death that he is alive. Several of Black Death’s soldiers attempt to kill Zack for his testimony
Should make for a great film. Who could they get to play Zack?

Back in January I posted some photos from the film Rubber by Quentin (Mr. Oizo) Dupieux – did he do that Flat Beat track? It had an excellent concept unlike any you have ever heard before.
Robert, a tire that has been abandoned in the desert, suddenly comes to life, for no reason. He learns how to get around, explores the desert and discovers in himself a passion for destroying insects and various lost items. Robert soon develops a telepathic gift, which gives him the ability to destroy anything he wants, without moving…
Now there is the poster and teaser below. I think it has a lovely looking style to it and may well be a cult classic in the making.
