If you are a long time reader of the site you will know I like a nice bit of film related art and here is a lovely piece by Derek Gabryszak.
‘You’re so cool!’ is the first of three postershe is doing for his True Romance series.
Here is some more info from Derek:
The prints are 14”x17” on Canson fine art paper. I (silk screen) printed the three colors of the design by hand. ‘You’re so cool!’ has an edition of 45, and is being sold on my site for $25. Because the screen printing process is so involved, I’m hoping for success with the first print before I print the two remaining designs.
Head on over quick as I don’t think they’ll be around for long.

Terrence Malick makes lovely looking films. I love Badlands. Like most of his films actors fight over themselves to star in one and everything is very hush hush about plot. Tree of Life is no different.
There have been rumours that it is a coming of age story, then others stating that it features dinosaurs. Nothing clear cut has been said. Now Empire spoke to Brad Pitt, who stars in the film, about the possibility of the film being sci-fi. Here’s what he had to say.
“Well, in a way. It’s this little tiny story of a kid growing up in the 50s with a mother who’s grace incarnate and a father who’s oppressive in nature. So he is negotiating his way through it, defining who he’s gonna be when he grows up. And that is juxtaposed with a little, tiny micro-story of the cosmos, from the beginning of the cosmos to the death of the cosmos. So that’s where the sci-fi – or the sci-fact – comes in.”
The official synopsis -
Tree of Life is a period piece centered around three boys in the 1950s. The eldest son of two characters (Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain) witnesses the loss of innocence.
We trace the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy in the Midwest, Jack, one of three brothers. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother does, with the eyes of his soul. She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father tries to teach his son the world’s way, of putting oneself first. Each parent contends for his allegiance, and Jack must reconcile their claims. The picture darkens as he has his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death. The world, once a thing of glory, becomes a labyrinth.
Framing this story is that of adult Jack, a lost soul in a modern world, seeking to discover amid the changing scenes of time that which does not change: the eternal scheme of which we are a part. When he sees all that has gone into our world’s preparation, each thing appears a miracle precious, incomparable. Jack, with his new understanding, is able to forgive his father and take his first steps on the path of life.
The story ends in hope, acknowledging the beauty and joy in all things, in the everyday and above all in the family — our first school — the only place that most of us learn the truth about the world and ourselves, or discover life’s single most important lesson, of unselfish love.
It all sounds very confusing, but should look lovely.

Megamind is the most brilliant supervillain the world has ever known. And the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way. Each attempt, a colossal failure thanks to the caped superhero known as ‘Metro Man,’ an invincible hero until the day Megamind actually kills him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, Megamind has no purpose. A supervillain without a superhero. He realizes that achieving his life’s ambition is the worst thing that ever happened to him. Megamind decides that the only way out of his rut is to create a new hero opponent called ‘Titan,’ who promises to be bigger, better and stronger than Metro Man ever was. Pretty quickly Titan starts to think it’s much more fun to be a villain than a good guy. Except Titan doesn’t just want to rule the world, he wants to destroy it. Now, Megamind must decide: can he defeat his own diabolical creation? Can the world’s smartest man make the smart decision for once? Can the evil genius become the unlikely hero of his own story?

This was the film that was originally called Oobermind and was going to have Robert Downey Jr voice the main character. That got changed and Will Ferrell got the job. Now we have a better look at the main character (the only other outing has been on a poster from August last year).
“When super villain MegaMind (Will Ferrell) defeats his archrival Metro Man (Brad Pitt), the world should be his oyster. But instead, MegaMind falls into total despair. It turns out that life without a rival is life without a purpose for him. So he creates a new superhero rival, Titan (Jonah Hill). Unfortunately for him and the world, the new hero wants to be a super villain too. The new villain begins his rampage, and MegaMind sets out to stop him, beginning a path to redemption in the process.”
It is due out on the 5th November 2010.

Back in August last year was the small piece of news that the old TV show, Gunsmoke, was being made into a feature film. It was a little story, just the beginning of a project, although big for the fans of the original show.
Turns out that the studio, CBS Films, want this to be a very big deal as it looks as if they are after some big names to fill those boots. The original show starred James Arness, but a number of names have been mentioned to be in the running for the role of Marshal Matt Dillon.
The LA Times have said that Brad Pitt is the top contender and he has the benefit of having done a spot on turn in the Western The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Another name on the list is Ryan Reynolds who is going on to bigger and better things with Green Lantern.
Time to say “Whoa!” a moment as all of this is just a list. As far as I can tell there is nothing definite and the film still has to find a director.
Personally I think they should go totally meta with it and get the actor Matt Dillon to play Marshall Matt Dillon. Imagine the punnage and funny looks to the camera. Oh the comedy. No, just me. Let us move quickly on.
Dillon is the Western hero charged with maintaining law and order in a period Kansas town filled with colorful vagrants, misfits and desperadoes. He carries on in these adventures with the help of town physician Doc Adams and tavern owner Miss Kitty Russell.
A few other actors are apparently in the running, but I feel this could be a lot of talk from the studio at the moment to drum up interest for what they want to be a big film.
Gregory Poirier (National Treasure: Book of Secrets) has written a draft of the Gunsmoke feature script, which the studio is said to like.
CBS Films wants to contemporize the look and feel of Gunsmoke while maintaining the period American West setting. I’ve never seen the original so I am not too sure what the set up of the show was like or what to expect with a remake.
Are you a fan of the original series? Do you want to see a film based on it and who do you want to play Marshall Matt Dillon.

Matt Damon and Brad Pitt were last seen together in Ocean’s Thirteen. Now they have apparantly been cast in George Miller’s Happy Feet 2.
Pitt and Damon will both be voicing characters in Miller’s Happy Feet 2, a 3-D sequel to his 2006 animated film. They’ll be joining original cast members who include Robin Williams and Elijah Wood.
Warner Bros. refused comment on the casting, but Movieline sources say that it’s a done deal — in fact, both Pitt and Damon were recording for it this week.
Happy Feet 2 is currently set for release on November 28, 2011.
Just a pity that Pitt and Clooney won’t be starring in George Miller’s Mad Max 4.

Summit is developing an action-oriented take on the most famous of the fanged: Dracula.
The company has picked up “Vlad,” a script by actor Charlie Hunnam, and is in negotiations with music video and photographer Anthony Mandler to direct the project. Brad Pitt is producing with Dede Gardner via the duo’s Plan B Entertainment production shingle.
“Vlad” centers on Dracula as a young prince; he is known to history as Vlad the Impaler, the man behind the Dracula myth.
Summit picked up “Vlad” awhile ago, developing it quietly, but when execs saw Mandler’s reel, the project got a shot in the arm.
Mandler is a music-video director who has worked with Rhianna (helming 10 of her videos), the Killers and Eminem. Execs were wowed by the reel he prepared, which drew comparisons to Zack Snyder and his work on “300″; Summit tried to land the latter project before it ultimately was made at Warner Bros.
With “Vlad,” Summit hopes to make a visually edgy and radical period movie that also will break a new talent.

Brad Pitt will develop a feature film based off the upcoming Capcom video game Dark Void.
Pitt will develop and produce the film through his Plan B production shingle and it was said that it could be a possible starring vehicle for the actor as well according to Heat Vision.
“Void” centers on a a cargo pilot named Will (Pitt’s presumed character) who, after crashing in the Bermuda Triangle, ends up in a parallel universe where a band of humans must fight an alien threat they had long been thought extinct. Will and the other humans are outmanned but have a number of weapons and powers to help them beat back the alien incursion.
Capcom will release the video game for Windows, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in January. No production schedule was released for the film.
I think this is a bit risky as the game is not out and who knows whether it will live or die in the gaming market. Tons of games come out every week and many of them fall to the wayside. What happens if the game bombs? Will the movie still get made?

First Rule: You do not talk about Fight Club.
Second Rule: You do not talk about Fight Club.
Third Rule: When someone says “Stop” or goes limp, the fight is over.
Fourth Rule: Only two guys to a fight.
Fifth Rule: One fight at a time.
Sixth Rule: No shirts, no shoes.
Seventh Rule: Fights go on as long as they have to.
Eighth Rule: If this is your first night at Fight Club, you have to fight…
Okay, okay. I’ll tell you. Where’s the harm.
The awesome David Fincher directed, Fight Club, is on its way to punch you in the neck Blu-Ray style. It is due out on 23rd November here in the UK and the 17th over in the USA.
I still remember when I first watched it with my good mate Del and just being amazed by it all, especially the bit…well if you’ve seen it you know. If you haven’t seen it, watch it. Then watch it again.
Brad Pitt and Edward Norton just owned the screen.
If only the Ferris Bueller Tyler Durden theory really worked.
Okay, here is what is on the Blu-Ray:
# New HD Master Supervised step-by-step by director David Fincher
# Exclusive to Blu-Ray:
# A Hit in the Ear: Ren Klyce and the Sound Design of Fight Club
# An interactive experience introduced by the sound designer Ren Klyce, in which the user can mix the sounds of selected scenes of the movie.
# Insomnia Mode: I am Jack’s search Index
# A new navigation mode, that allows the user to tag any topics during the movie and access to all content available in the disc that refers to the tagged topic.
# Flogging Fight Club
# Backstage at the Spike TV Awards: Hangout with Brad Pitt & Edward Norton in the Green Room shortly after being inducted into the Spike TV ‘Guy Movie Hall of Fame’.
Turns out that Fincher thought it would be funny to use the menu from a sweet bubble-gum romance – Never Been Kissed – the farthest possible thing from the very dark “Fight Club” — that was a much bigger box office success when both films were released in 1999. Barrymore’s inexpensive comedy grossed more in U.S., on initial release. Of course, “Fight Club” has developed a loyal and vocal fan following over the past decade, and it is listed in the top 10 of Total Film’s and Empire magazine’s Greatest Films of All Time lists.
UPDATE:You can see the film for free on the big screen next Tuesday at midnight but only if you like in LA or New York. If you are in NYC click here. If you want to join Project Mayhem in Los Angeles click here.
If you want it, you can buy it here:
