Directed by Marco van Belle, who kindly got in touch to let me know about it, this fantasy short stars legendary British actor Brian Blessed as Mr. Bojagi, a mysterious man with a mind-reading machine who helps people choose the perfect gifts.
The film has already won the 2010 ‘British Lion Award’ for achievement in film and the jury award for ‘Best Short Film’ at the London Independent Film Festival. The film also stars Hildegard Neil.
It will debut exclusively on Daily Motion for a limited run from 14th May.
In an interview with USA Weekend, Zachary Levi (Chuck) revealed that he was cast as Fandral — a heroic adventurer who along with Hogun the Grim and Volstagg comprise the trio known as the Warriors Three — before being forced to back out of the role to fulfill his commitment to Chuck. All because an extra six episodes were ordered.
He also mentions that he audition for the role of Thor which surprised me. Not sure he would have worked as that character.
This is the first confirmation we have had that the Warriors Three will be appearing in Kenneth Branagh’s film. Dominic Cooper and Jude Law are both rumoured to be have been approached to star in the film and both would make a great Fandral. However, I think Levi with a goatee and ‘tache would have been excellent as the swashbuckling warrior – I imagine him as the Bruce Campbell character from Xena.
As for the rest of the Warriors Three, veteran actor Brian Blessed — previously rumoured to play Odin — could possibly play Volstagg. Imagine Blessed’s character from Flash Gordon, but without the wings and there you have it.
Hogun the Grim could possibly be portrayed by either Colm Feore (24, The Chronicles of Riddick) or Stellan Skarsgård (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), both of whom have been confirmed to appear in Thor in currently unannounced roles, although Feore is supposedly down to play a villain in the film.
How do you think Levi would have got on as Fandral? Who would you like to see as the Warriors Three?
Another day another comic book film rumour – yesterday I posted the rumour Jackie Earle Haley could be playing Sinestro in Green Lantern (Collider spoke to him and he has heard nothing about that) – Now AICN have a rumour about the Kenneth Branagh directed Thor film
According to actor, Matthias Schweighöfer, who you may have seen in VALKYRIE or RED BARON – in an article in the German edition of Gentlemen’s Quarterly aka GQ, he states that he’s in the running for a role in Branagh’s THOR, but he also mentions that Jude Law and Robert DeNiro have joined the cast.
Now, I don’t doubt that they have, they’re very much the sort of Actor I would expect from a Kenneth Branagh helmed THOR film, I’m just absolutely flummoxed to think who they are playing.
Robert De Niro worked with Brannagh on the not very good Frankenstein and I am sure Law must have worked with Brannagh at some point.
Going from what I know of the Thor comic I think, if the rumour is true, that Jude Law could play the dashing warrior, Fandral, of the Warriors Three (that’s him above). De Niro though I am just not sure.
What do you think of the rumour and who could they be playing?
Stellan Skarsgård has joined Marvel Studios’ Thor, reported the Swedish news site Ystads Allehanda.
Stellan Skarsgård is ready for a role in action movie Thor.
Everything is still secret about the project and Skarsgård can not reveal what role he will play.
“They wanted me to sign without reading the script. That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was so coded that I could only print one copy,” said Stellan Skarsgård.
Set for release on 20th May 2011, the Paramount Pictures comic book adaptation will be directed by Kenneth Branagh. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore and Samuel L. Jackson.
This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
Jaimie Alexander (Kyle XY) and Colm Feore (The Chronicles of Riddick, 24) have joined Marvel Studios adaptation of Thor that Kenneth Branagh is directing according to THR.
Alexander and Feore will be joining Chris Hemsworth who is already cast as the title character. Tom Hiddleston, will play Loki, the god of mischief who is the movie’s villain. Natalie Portman is going to be Thor’s human love, Jane Foster. Brian Blessed is Odin.
In Thor, Alexander will play Sif. She is a skilled Asgardian warrior who can fight as well as any man. She also is one of Thor’s many loves.
Feore’s character is currently cloaked in mystery. All that’s known is that he’s a villain.
Now OntheFlix have the news that Portman will be playing Jane Foster. This character is a nurse who had a bit of a thing with Thor’s human alter-ego, Dr. Donald Blake.
Having Portman as the romantic lead with Blake (if they play up that side of the tale) may mean we will see more Earth bound action than previously thought.
The plot for the film has Thor as a powerful but arrogant warrior who reignites an ancient war with his reckless actions. Thor is then cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans. However, after he arrives, he learns how to be a hero when the most dangerous villain of his former world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
Could this mean that Jessica Biel may be playing Sif? What are your thoughts on the Portster playing Jane Foster? Do you want to see lots of Thor on Earth or do you want the first film to be heavy on Asgard?
Thor is due out on 20th May 2011 so still quite a while to go.
Clifton Collins Jr. isn’t. He mentioned a while back that he was meeting with the Thor people, but he didn’t mention for what role. He told The Dead Bolt this week that he’s no longer a part of the project.
“That was a long time ago. I wasn’t really getting into it, I was just preparing stuff. It’s a fantastic director, a great piece, but I have absolutely nothing to do with it.”
Meanwhile Jessica Biel is now being rumored to be playing a female character and love interest to the titular hero in the project according to Nuke the Fridge.
The site’s source also says the role is likely to be that of Amora The Enchantress , however it could be theAsgardian warrior Sif. Still no word on what role Natalie Portman or Josh Hartnett may be playing.
Do you want to see Biel in Thor? What character do you think she will be playing?
I understand that British actor Brian Blessed has been cast in Kenneth Branagh’s THOR movie, based on the Marvel Comics title, as the character Odin.
Blessed is best known for his roles as Caesar Augustus in I CLAUDIUS and King Of The Hawk Men in FLASH GORDON as well as being a charity campaigner and mountaineer.
He has appeared in a number of Kenneth Branagh productions, including HAMLET and AS YOU LIKE IT, famed for his booming voice.
I still haven’t found any official confirmation on this, however he apparantly confirmed it at a recent public appearance in York. I will keep looking for official confirmation on this, so at the moment count it as a rumour. The fact that Branagh as previously worked makes even more sense as he has also worked with Tom Hiddleston who was recently cast as Loki. Chris Hemsworth is Thor. Now we just need to find out what characters Natalie Portman and Josh Hartnett are playing.
I personally think this is a brilliant piece of casting and hopefully it is true.
