Road Train – Dangerous things are afoot in the Outback

Posted by LiveFor on November 6, 2009

Road Train2This sounds like a cross between Duel (I love Duel. Anyone know if it is out on Blu-Ray?), Maximum Overdrive, Blood Car, Hybrid and The Car. I love a bit of sentient machinery running amok.

This truck has Cerberus as a hood ornament so you know it won’t end well.

Oh and if you are a Twilight fan it also stars Xavier Samuel.

Four young friends on a camping adventure in outback Australia are run off the road by an erratically driven road train – a massive three-trailer truck. With their own vehicle wrecked, and the road train stopped, the friends march off to remonstrate with the drivers. But mysteriously, there is no one to be found. Suddenly, the silence is broken by the sound of gunshots. A distant figure in the bush screams and runs towards them. Have they become witnesses to a murder? There’s no time to discuss it. The friends commandeer the road train. The next town is only three hours away. But the next town is somewhere they will never reach. And what they discover inside the vehicle’s trailers proves more terrifying than anything out there on that lonely road.

Hugh Jackman has Real Steel in robot boxing film

Posted by LiveFor on October 1, 2009

hugh-jackmanCalm down ladies and lovers of Musical Theatre. Hugh Jackman, who just opened on Broadway in A Steady Rain with Daniel Craig, is in talks to star onscreen in the Shawn Levy-directed Real Steel for DreamWorks according to Variety.

The film is about a fighter who has to reinvent himself when human boxing becomes obsolete, replaced by 2000 pound human-like robots. Jackman is negotiating to play the ex-fighter, who becomes a Robot Boxing promoter, but whose chances of success are hampered by his access to sub-standard robot parts. That is until he discovers a discarded robot that always seems to win. The ex-fighter has also discovered he’s the father of a 13-year old son, and they bond as the robot brawls its way toward the top.

The premise is based on a short story by Richard Matheson. It’s a reunion between Matheson and Spielberg. Matheson wrote Spielberg’s directing debut, “Duel,” and he was story editor on Spielberg’s “Amazing Stories.”

Road Train – All aboard for Aussie horror in a Christine / Duel stylee maybe?

Posted by LiveFor on November 24, 2008

My folks and brother are currently over in Australia so this film is apt in its way (apart from the murder and horror!). I saw it mentioned on Quiet Earth.

“Four young friends on a camping adventure in outback Australia are run off the road by a mystery road train – a massive three-trailer truck. With their own 4×4 wrecked and the road train stopped, the friends march off to remonstrate with the driver. But there is no one to be found. Suddenly, the silence is broken by the sound of gunshots. A distant figure screams and runs towards them. Are they witnesses to a murder? There’s no time to discuss it. The friends commandeer the road train. The next town is only three hours away. But the next town is somewhere they will never reach. What they discover inside the vehicle’s trailers proves more terrifying than anything out there on that lonely road.”

Does sound a bit like Christine, Duel and that old film with James Brolin as a Sheriff being terrorised by a demonic black car. The poster looks great and I am intrigued as to what they will find on the Road Train. Filming is due to start next year.
