Well I finally got round to posting my favourite 3 poster redesigns in the Dark City challenge. Sorry I took so long.
Everyone who entered did a sterling job and many made me laugh. Thanks to everyone who entered and head on over to the Forum to see all the posters. Once again the various casting ideas are truly inspired.
The current challenge is to redesign a poster for Fight Club. More info on that here.

Ok the quest continues. Into the middle third of the year and currently running behind schedule for the “300 movies in a year”, thought I’d actually write something about what I’m watching. Be aware I do pollute my eyes with a varied collection of genres!
#75 The Bourne Identity
“A man is picked up by a fishing boat, bullet-riddled and without memory, then races to elude assassins and recover from amnesia.” – IMDB
The action and pace of this movie are fantastic, definately giving Bond a run for his money.
One thing which I did notice was the how much the world has changed in just 8 years. Watch it again and check out the technology – no LCD monitors in the CIA office, and old school motorola mobile phones…not an iPhone in sight, which seems to be the norm for spies these days.
Looking forward to the next two installments after rewatching this one.
Part of you wants to be woken up on a bench and from nowhere you suddenly get all of these martial arts skills popping into your head!
#76 Fight Club
“An office employee and a soap salesman build a global organization to help vent male aggression.” – IMDB
Due to the first and second rule I’m actually unable to talk about this…
After not seeing this movie since its original release in ’99 I hadn’t realised how much of the film I completely forgotten about, and just how funny it is.
Also when you know the ‘twist’ it gives a very different view of the film.
#77 OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies
“Secret agent OSS 117 foils Nazis, beds local beauties, and brings peace to the Middle East.” – IMDB
See review from 20/05/09 – still as good, if not better after more viewings.
“A man accidentally gets into a time machine and travels back in time nearly an hour. Finding himself will be the first of a series of disasters of unforeseeable consequences.” – IMDB
If you in anyway shape or form like the idea of time travel and paradoxs etc you need to watch this fantastic, modern day, Spanish, small cast movie. How you would write this and not get confused is beyond me!
Imagine “FAQ of Time Travel” but serious and over only a couple of hours, mixed in with “Triangle” and smidge of Darkman for good measure.

Okay Space Monkeys. Here is a new challenge for you.
Robocop and Dark City went well (at the time of writing I am still going through the latter. Will post them later).
Here is what you have to do for the next one.
You are a film poster designer and have been asked to put together a poster for a new film called Fight Club.
The only info you have about it:
- A loner with insomnia and a cool guy set up an underground fight club.
- They live in a strange dilapidated house.
- One of the men is not what they seem.
- A crazy woman keeps hassling them.
- They make soap and a large man with breasts joins the Club.
- Clubs spread around the country and turns to terrorism
It can be any genre, could be set in any place, any time and is yet to be cast – you can choose the actors and director
You have until 16th May.
From badly drawn mayhem to super slick graphic design, all entries are welcome. Remember even if it is bad only after disaster can we be resurrected.
Post your posters over on the Forum – the best ones will get shown on the site.
This is your life and it’s ending one minute at a time. Go and do something cool and creative.
I would say go and spread the word but you all know what the first rule of Fight Club is.
Go and create.

First Rule: You do not talk about Fight Club.
Second Rule: You do not talk about Fight Club.
Third Rule: When someone says “Stop” or goes limp, the fight is over.
Fourth Rule: Only two guys to a fight.
Fifth Rule: One fight at a time.
Sixth Rule: No shirts, no shoes.
Seventh Rule: Fights go on as long as they have to.
Eighth Rule: If this is your first night at Fight Club, you have to fight…
Okay, okay. I’ll tell you. Where’s the harm.
The awesome David Fincher directed, Fight Club, is on its way to punch you in the neck Blu-Ray style. It is due out on 23rd November here in the UK and the 17th over in the USA.
I still remember when I first watched it with my good mate Del and just being amazed by it all, especially the bit…well if you’ve seen it you know. If you haven’t seen it, watch it. Then watch it again.
Brad Pitt and Edward Norton just owned the screen.
If only the Ferris Bueller Tyler Durden theory really worked.
Okay, here is what is on the Blu-Ray:
# New HD Master Supervised step-by-step by director David Fincher
# Exclusive to Blu-Ray:
# A Hit in the Ear: Ren Klyce and the Sound Design of Fight Club
# An interactive experience introduced by the sound designer Ren Klyce, in which the user can mix the sounds of selected scenes of the movie.
# Insomnia Mode: I am Jack’s search Index
# A new navigation mode, that allows the user to tag any topics during the movie and access to all content available in the disc that refers to the tagged topic.
# Flogging Fight Club
# Backstage at the Spike TV Awards: Hangout with Brad Pitt & Edward Norton in the Green Room shortly after being inducted into the Spike TV ‘Guy Movie Hall of Fame’.
Turns out that Fincher thought it would be funny to use the menu from a sweet bubble-gum romance – Never Been Kissed – the farthest possible thing from the very dark “Fight Club” — that was a much bigger box office success when both films were released in 1999. Barrymore’s inexpensive comedy grossed more in U.S., on initial release. Of course, “Fight Club” has developed a loyal and vocal fan following over the past decade, and it is listed in the top 10 of Total Film’s and Empire magazine’s Greatest Films of All Time lists.
UPDATE:You can see the film for free on the big screen next Tuesday at midnight but only if you like in LA or New York. If you are in NYC click here. If you want to join Project Mayhem in Los Angeles click here.
If you want it, you can buy it here:

“Tyler sold his soap to department stores at $20 a bar. Lord knows what they charged. It was beautiful. We were selling rich women their own fat asses back to them.”
Now you can buy soap made from the fat sucked out of tired old rich people. Well, you can buy soap that is vegan friendly anyway.
Buy it here…well you could. It looks as if it is now sold out.

Hey I admit it. I like a bit of RPG every now and again – Conspiracy X, AD&D, Cthulhu etc. Topless Robot dug up the goods with this explanation of the various alignments from back in the day.
I think they got it pretty much spot on. If any of you happen to be Chaotic Evil, then nice to meet you, please don’t hurt me.

This sounds like if could be interesting if done right.
Viper Comics miniseries Villains, follows a main character who decides he wants to learn the dark art of villainy after discovering the old guy living next door is actually a retired baddie. Sounds a bit like Apt Pupil but with super powers.
Universal is giving the series the big-screen adaptation treatment and producers are conceiving the film as a big-budget, super-dark adventure directed by someone with a sensibility similar to the men who’ve helmed “Fight Club” and “Collateral.”
“I think we want to go big with it,” producer Sean Bailey told MTV News. “My personal ambition is to have it be operatic and epic. If Michael Mann or David Fincher were ever to go make one of these movies, what would that look like? That’s my hope for it. To be in that kind of world.”
“If you look at any war movie or any crime movie, who the hero is, is solely a question of the point of view,” Bailey continued. “So we wanted to look at the rise of a villain—why and how it happened. It’s got a different slant than you’ve seen.”
The project was announced last year and “Wonder Woman” screenwriters Matt Jennison and Brent Strickland recently handed in a first draft of “Villains.” The studio and producers handed back notes, and now the writers are at work on a second draft.
With the script not yet nailed down, Bailey hasn’t yet begun the search for a director, nor thought deeply about casting choices.
“We’re still in the script stage,” Bailey laughed.
Have a look at a preview of the first issue.

I am a big fan of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Fight Club. This blew my mind when I read it over on /Film. Big warning for spoilers if you haven’t seen Fight Club.
Cool Papa Bell over on metatalk mentions the Ferris Bueller Fight Club Theory:
My favorite thought-piece about Ferris Bueller is the “Fight Club” theory, in which Ferris Bueller, the person, is just a figment of Cameron’s imagination, like Tyler Durden, and Sloane is the girl Cameron secretly loves.
One day while he’s lying sick in bed, Cameron lets “Ferris” steal his father’s car and take the day off, and as Cameron wanders around the city, all of his interactions with Ferris and Sloane, and all the impossible hijinks, are all just played out in his head. This is part of the reason why the “three” characters can see so much of Chicago in less than one day — Cameron is alone, just imagining it all.
It isn’t until he destroys the front of the car in a fugue state does he finally get a grip and decide to confront his father, after which he imagines a final, impossible escape for Ferris and a storybook happy ending for Sloane (”He’s gonna marry me!”), the girl that Cameron knows he can never have.
Cameron: My father will see what I did. I can’t hide this. He’ll come home and he’ll have to deal with me. I don’t care I really don’t. I’m just tired of being afraid.
Ferris: It’s my fault. I’ll take the heat for it. When he comes home, we’ll tell him that I did it. He hates me anyway.
Cameron: No, I’ll take it. I’ll take it.
Ferris: No, you don’t want this much heat.
Cameron: If I didn’t want it, I wouldn’t have let you take the car.
Ferris: I made you take that car.
Cameron: I could have stopped you.
Palinode goes further:
I realized that Cameron and Sloane seem to inhabit a different universe than Cameron and Ferris, or Ferris and Sloane. It’s those two who are shyly and sweetly stumbling into a relationship, and “Ferris” is the thing between them. During the parade scene, for example, Ferris vanishes, leaving the two to have an understated and genuine conversation. Then Ferris erupts from a crowd of girls on a parade float, screaming out what Cameron cannot. He is the sausage king of Chicago, Cameron’s frustrated adolescent libido made manifest in the form of a short dude with a vest.
It all fits. Oh my God! Going to have to watch Ferris again.
