A few weeks ago news surfaced that original The A-Team cast member Dwight Schultz who played Murdock would have a cameo role in the big-screen remake. However, he is not the only one.
Fan site Dirk Benedict Central is reporting that Dirk Benedict, who played Templeton “Faceman” Peck in the original series, will also have a cameo appearance in the new film.
Dirk has just announced to this website that he has two projects in the works beginning with a cameo appearance in the new The A-Team film, which is currently shooting in Vancouver Canada.
The A-Team is directed by Joe Carnahan and stars Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel, Quinton Jackson, Patrick Wilson and Yul Vazquez and is out on 11 June 2010.
Although I personally love it when they do stuff like this, I am never sure if it is good or bad for the film in question – It kind of pulls you out of the moment as you go “Oh that was so-and-so from the original show” which is probably not very helpful to the new versions of the characters.
How do you feel about original actors cameoing in new versions of their shows or film?

This prequel to Joe Carnahan’s original film is directed by P.J. Pesce and going straight to DVD.
Walter Weed (Tom Berenger) is an unassuming desk jockey at the FBI when the Bureau uncovers a plot to assassinate him. A team of degenerate, psychotic assassins dispatched by mystery man Hal Leuco to win a huge bounty includes a resourceful beauty who has a unique method of killing her prey (Martha Higareda), a power-tool wielding psychopath (Vinnie Jones) and a deadly master of disguise (Tommy Flanagan). Also in the hunt is the fan-favorite Tremor family from the original film, featuring nymphomaniacal gun-nut (Autumn Reeser) and her lethal kinfolk (Maury Sterling, Michael Parks and C. Ernst Harth). Baker (Clayne Crawford), the agent in charge of the operation, puts himself and his team in the line of fire to defend Weed, but it’s not until the smoke clears on the film’s explosive climax that the surprising identity of the plot’s mastermind is revealed.

This is the first official photo of The A-Team. Directed by Joe Carnahan the film stars Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck, Liam Neeson as Col John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, Sharlto Copley as Capt. ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock, and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson as Sgt Bosco ‘B.A.’ Baracus.
I think it looks pretty good and the spirit of the TV show appears to be there.

The A-Team are together and this is our first glimpse of them. ComingSoon had the photo and it looks as if they are trying to get B A to drink the milk or some such getting him on the plane style ploy!
Okay from the left there is Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as B A Baracus, Liam Neeson as Hannibal, Sharlto Copley (District 9) as Murdock, and Bradley Cooper as Face. Joe Carnahan is directing.
I don’t know about you. but I think it is cool seeing the A-Team together again.
The film is due out on 11th June 2010.

The A-Team has been cast but news of the surrounding friends and foes are beginning to trickle out. Jessica Biel is going to be an ex of Face (Bradley Cooper). David Richmond-Peck is also in it as one of the bad guys.
Now Empire have the news that Patrick Wilson has joined the cast.
The Watchmen star will play a CIA operative in the movie. That could mean he is going to be one of the bad guys, but that is not necessarily so. He could maybe be a contact for the Team who helps them out with info. We just don’t know at this early stage.

UPDATE 26/11/09 – Now Dirk Benedict has confirmed he has a cameo.
UPDATE: Dwight Schultz has got a cameo in the film
Now there is footage and interviews with the actors. Now the first official photo of the team is out.
Sharlto Copley, the star of this summer’s breakout hit “District 9,” is in final negotiations to portray “Howling Mad” Murdock in Fox’s A-Team feature film. Jessica Biel is also in negotiations to join the production according to THR Heat Vision.
They will join Liam Neeson (Hannibal), Bradley Cooper (Face) and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (BA) to round out the special forces team convicted of a crime they didn’t commit and on the run from government forces. Joe Carnahan is directing the adaptation of the 1980s television show, while Ridley and Tony Scott produce.
Copley seemingly came out of nowhere to star in “District 9,” landing the role in the movie due to childhood friend Neill Blomkamp’s fondness for Copley’s improvisational skills, skills which will be ideally suited to the Murdock character.
Murdock was the wild card of the group, the Army’s best chopper pilot who is also suffering, in an over-the-top manner, from delusions, memory loss, and hallucinations. Dwight Shultz originated the role in the TV series.
Biel would play the former love of Faceman (Cooper), an Army general who is now pursuing the team.
Copley as Murdock is inspired casting in my opinion and great to see him move on from District 9 to this.

It looks as if Canadian actor David Richmond-Peck has signed on to star as Gammons in Joe Carnahan’s big screen adaptation of The A-Team. The actor most recently worked with the director on a sequel to Smokin’ Aces. He was also the bloke who interrogated Keanu Reeves in The Day The Earth Stood Still.
Richmond-Peck originally tested for the role of the main villian, Lynch, in the film before grabbing the role he has now. The script’s plot has The A-Team hailing from the war in the Middle East as opposed to the Vietnam War. But the premise will remain the same as the television series, which sees four war vets wrongly accused of armed robbery that escape military prison to become an elite band of do-good mercenaries. The main adversary for the troupe is Lynch, a CIA agent linked to the Army. Commander of Fort Bragg, which housed the stockade from which the team escaped, Lynch is in pursuit of The A-Team, who he has a personal vendetta against.
Liam Neeson has been cast as Col. John “Hannibal” Smith, with Bradley Cooper confirmed as Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck and Rampage Jackson confirmed as B.A. Baracus.
Though Howling Mad Murdock has yet to be cast, rumours suggest that District 9′s Sharlto Copley is looking to take over the role.
So one of the bad guys has been cast. Who do you see playing the main villain, Lynch?

Through a reliable source, Blackfilm.com has learned exclusively that an offer has been made to rising star ‘District 9′ Star Sharlto Copley for the role.
There is no confirmation that Copley has accepted as of yet.
Many names were being tossed for the role including the likes of Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi, Timothy Olyphant, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Chris Pine and Robert Downey Jr. Although we all know a whole heap of them won’t be taking the role.
Already cast in the film are Liam Neeson as Col. John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as Sgt. Bosco ‘B.A.’ Baracus and Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck.
‘The A-Team’ revolves around the four members of a former commando outfit and current group of mercenaries. Their leader is Col. John “Hannibal” Smith, whose plans tend to be unorthodox but effective. Lt. Templeton “The Faceman” (usually referred to simply as “Face”) Peck is a smooth-talking con-man who serves as the team’s appropriator of vehicles and other useful items. The team’s pilot is Capt. H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock, who has been declared insane and resides in a mental institution for the show’s first four seasons. Finally, there is the team’s strong man and mechanic, Sgt. B.A. “Bad Attitude” Baracus.
Set for release next year, the film, which is being directed by Joe Carnahan has already begun shooting in Vancouver, Canada.
Director Carnahan and Tony and Ridley Scott say they will use the original premise of the series as the template for an action film. In the original, four Vietnam vets convicted of armed robbery escape from military prison and became do-gooder mercenaries.
The Middle East will replace Vietnam as the place the four did their tour of duty, but Carnahan said the origin story is the jumping-off point.
The original series, which ran from 1983-87 and starred George Peppard, Mr. T, Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz, followed an unofficial team of Vietnam vets who will stop at nothing to get the bad guys. Sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit, these four commandos escaped from a maximum-security stockade and now survive in the Los Angeles underground as soldiers of fortune.
Having just watched District 9 last night I can totally see Copley playing Murdoch. In D-9 he goes from office nerd to fugitive to bad ass and I thought he was brilliant. The whole film was superb so go and see it if you haven’t.
Who do you think would make a good Murdoch?

The A-Team film is slowly coming together.
Joe Carnahan is directing. Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) is down as Templeton “Face” Peck, Liam Neeson is Hannibal and now fools everywhere will have someone to pity them.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship world light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is in Vancouver to star as BA Baracus. Yep Mr T has been replaced.
Jackson has been removed from the UFC 107 card where he was set to face Sugar Rashad Evans in an Ultimate Fighter finale showdown, so he can appear in the film. He was spotted on Robson Street Friday afternoon, signing autographs for fans.
The Vancouver Sun has learned Rampage was in Vancouver on 19th August to discuss the role with producers and arrived in town recently to prepare for filming for the next six weeks.
Do you think Rampage is a good choice to play Bad Attitude Baracus? Does anyone know if he can act?
All that is left is someone to play Murdoch. Chris Pine (Star Trek, Carriers) has said he would love to play the role. If not him who else could play Howling Mad Murdoch?
What A-Team clichés do you want to see in the big screen version?
Thanks to Andrew for pointing out this snippet of Rampage’s acting in the trailer for Never Surrender.
