Predators – First sneak peak and a poster

A bold new chapter in the Predator universe, Predators was shot on location under Rodriguez’s creative auspices at the filmmaker’s Austin-based Troublemaker Studios, and is directed by Nimród Antal. The film stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers – mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members – human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators. In addition to Adrien Brody, the film stars Topher Grace, Alice Braga, and Laurence Fishburne. Co-starring are Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Oleg Taktarov and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali.

Predators – A glimpse of a predator hound, Black Predator and the humans

This photo from Robert Rodriguez’s Trouble Maker Studios show various pieces of concept art from Nimród Antal’s Predators.

In pic from Empire magazine, io9 point out the Predator with the hunting hound on the left, the Black Predator on the right along with some of the human characters:

- Isabelle, a sniper and mysterious goverment ops agent
- Stans, a shiv-wielding inmate
- Nikolai, a chaingun-carrying Russian soldier
- Hanzo, a yakuza enforcer

The film stars Topher Grace, Adrien Brody, Walton Goggins, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walt Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Louiz Ozawa, Laurence Fisburne and Derek Mears.

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival has announced Austin-based filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and director Nimród Antal will present a “First Look” at their upcoming motion picture Predators, at SXSW on March 12, 2010. SXSW also announced the world premiere of Géla Babluani’s 13, the previously announced Super Secret TBA as part of the SX Fantastic midnight section. The 2010 event will take place March 12 – March 20, 2010.

The special presentation of Predators will take place at the Alamo Ritz Theater in downtown Austin, at 10:15pm. Doors open at 9:45pm, and the special event is only open to SXSW Badge-holders on a first-come, first-served basis. An audience Q&A follows the unveiling. SXSW Badges are still available for purchase at http://www.sxsw.com/attend.

Additionally, SXSW has revealed the identity of the Super Secret TBA in its SX Fantastic section – the anticipated world premiere of Géla Babluani’s 13 will take place at Midnight on Saturday, March 13 at the Alamo South Lamar Theater.
 
13, a remake of the 2005 French film 13 Tzameti, also directed by Babluani, stars Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Ben Gazzara, and Alexander Skarsgard. The thriller follows the story of Vince, who unwittingly becomes involved in a degenerate, clandestine world of mental chaos behind closed doors.

2010 marks the second year of the SX Fantastic section, a series of mind-bending international midnight films at SXSW programmed by Tim League, founder of the Austin-based Fantastic Fest. This year features a diverse slate of five action, thriller, sci-fi and just plain fantastic films from all corners of the world. The main cast is as follows:
* Royce, a Steve McQueen type – Adrien Brody
* Cuchillo, a Mexican enforcer for a drug cartel who has twin uzis strapped to his back – Danny Trejo
* Nikolai, a bear of a Russian armed with a four-barrel gas-powered rotary machine gun – Oleg Taktarov
* Isabelle, a French woman armed with a sniper rifle – Alice Braga
* Stans, a San Quentin prisoner with a shaved head, a scorpion tatto on his neck and armed with a prison-made knife – Maybe Walter Goggins
* Mombasa, an African member of the Sierra Leone death squad – Mahershalalhashbaz Ali
* Hanzo, a bad ass Japanese Yakuza enforcer
* Edwin, an unassuming man who was formerly on the FBI’s most-wanted list – possibly Topher Grace

So I think we are seeing Mombasa, Nikolai and Royce. Now if we only knew who Laurence Fishburne was playing.

Predators – Laurence Fishburne joins the crew

Predators is the reboot / sequel being produced by Robert Rodriguez and directed by Nimrod Antal.

Antal made a film called Armored that stars Laurence Fishburne.

Collider have the news that Fishburne will be starring in Predators as a character called Noland.

The film follows the story of a group of people (soldiers, cops, killers etc) who find themselves stranded on an alien planet and are “hunted by members of a merciless alien race known as Predators.”

The movie’s previously announced cast includes Topher Grace, Adrien Brody, Walton Goggins, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walt Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Louiz Ozawa and Derek Mears.

20th Century Fox has announced a 9th July 2010 release date.

Adrien Brody to be the lead in Predators

This is a bolt from the blue. Instead of going for the muscle bound tough guy it looks as if Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod Antal have gone for an Oscar winning actor. That’s right Adrien Brody (King Kong, Giallo, The Pianist, The Jacket, The Brothers Bloom) is heading back to Skull Island or rather Predator Planet.

Topher Grace (That 70s Show, Spider-Man 3) is in negotiations to join the action-adventure movie, to which Alice Braga (“I Am Legend”), Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (“The 4400″), Walt Goggins (“The Shield”), Rodriguez mainstay Danny Trejo and UFC fighter Oleg Taktarov have also been cast.

Written by Rodriguez, Alex Litvak and Michael Finch, the script follows a group of elite warrior-types who are being hunted by members of a race of merciless alien trackers called Predators.

Brody is a man who ends up inheriting the mantle of leader and is known as a hunter of men. Grace would play an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer.

Braga is the tough female killer. Ali is a man not afraid to die, Goggins is the loose canon of the group and Taktarov is a former Russian special ops agent.

Trejo, already cast, is Cuchillo, a hardened warrior with twin uzis strapped to his back.

So looking at the list of characters we can now put actors to the names.

* Royce, a Steve McQueen type – Adrien Brody
* Cuchillo, a Mexican enforcer for a drug cartel who has twin uzis strapped to his back – Danny Trejo

There you have it. The Predators are getting people to hint.

Shooting begins next month in Hawaii then moves to moves to Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin. The movie is slated for a July 9, 2010, release.

I think this is all great news. They seem to be getting a mix of great actors and tough guys involved so fingers crossed we should get a worthy Predators movie.
