Popwatch had the poster and a chat with director Wes Craven.
There have been 10 years of no Ghostface, but there has been the movie-within-a-movie Stab. We have fun with the idea of endless sequels, or “sequelitis” as Kevin calls it in the script. Sid goes through these three horrendous things, and Stab was based on those horrible things. And then they’ve been taken by a studio and run into the ground in a series of sequels. She has been off by herself and living her own life, and she’s even written a book that has gotten a lot of critical acclaim. She’s kind of put her life back together in the course of these 10 years. But, certainly, there would be no Scream without Ghostface, so she has to confront him again, but now as a woman who has really come out the darkness of her past.

Earlier today, Scream 4 writer Kevin Williamson announced on his twitter page that he’s “writing. late night”. MTV spoke to him and he confirmed he is completing the script for Scream 4, and concurrently writing the 5th installment as well.
“The fourth one is an ensemble. It’ll take place right now, 10 years later, and it’s going to take place in Woodsboro. We’ll have our three main characters, and we’ll be introducing several more. We’ll also be introducing a little group, a little ensemble of new castmembers. That’ll take us through the next three.”
The three characters that will be returning are Sidney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courteney Cox) and Dewey (David Arquette), Williamson confirmed, adding, “We’ll also be introducing a little group, a little ensemble of new castmembers. That’ll take us through the next three.”
What do you think of that? Bringing in new blood for the next films could mean the original 3 will be killed off in this one.
Does anyone care?

Bob Weinstein has said “I’m going back to doing what I do best,” that seems to mean going back to genre films for Dimension, with familiar faces onboard, such as Neve Campbell back for Scream 4, and a new emphasis on 3D.
Robert Rodriguez is writing “Spy Kids 4,” which he will direct in 3D. The movie will be made in partnership with Disney and will start shooting in March, Weinstein said.
In addition, the company wants to shoot “Halloween III” in 3D, aiming to release it in October 2010.
“I’m heading back to my franchise films,” Weinstein declared, citing plans to shoot sequels to “Hellraiser” and “Scanners” in 3D. Also on the slate are remakes of “Short Circuit” and “An American Werewolf in London.” “These films are our strength, and we are committed to doing them in style.”
The first two “Scream” pictures grossed more than $100 million each, while “Scream 3″ grossed $89 million in the U.S.
Weinstein also said that “The Road” will open wide Nov. 25 in some 800 theaters.
In response to a query, Weinstein said, “There is no question that financing is readily available to produce and market these films.” He added: “I am eager to expand our scope in the 3D business.”
I think jumping on the 3D bandwagon is a bit silly as there is still no guarantee this is not just going to be a flash in the pan.
Plus Hellraiser and Scanners have probably been picked as they have chains flashing out to you and exploding heads to smash out at you. As for remaking An American Werewolf in London I really, wish they would leave that well alone.
What do you think about the list of remakes Dimension are working on?

Bob Weinstein has confirmed that Neve Campbell has signed to return as Sidney Prescott for Scream 4 for Dimension Films. She is accompanied by Courteney Cox and David Arquette who have already signed on.
According to Variety, Scream 4 will start production in April or May as the first of a new trilogy, and the company is talking to Wes Craven to direct, Weinstein reports.
I am still not sure whether a new Scream film is needed or what it has to say about the current crop of horror films.

The Sun have the rumour that Emma Watson (Harry Potter) is to play a princess in a film from rock star turned writer\director Marilyn Manson which will be based on the traditional story of Cinderella.
Working Title is developing a third installment in the Bridget Jones film series reports Variety.
The third Jones will see Zellweger reprise her role as a British publishing executive struggling to find love. The story will likely be based on author Helen Fielding’s weekly newspaper columns from 2005 which has Bridget, now in her 40s, attempting to have a baby before it’s too late.
20th Century Fox has acquired the comedy pitch Avon Man, from Hitch writer Kevin Bisch, and has attached Hugh Jackman to star.According to Variety, Jackman and Seed Prods. partner John Palermo will produce, along with Gary Foster at Krasnoff Foster Entertainment. The story follows men laid off from an auto dealership. One is reluctantly recruited into becoming an Avon salesman, and while the experience is initially emasculating, he uses his charm and good looks to become a top seller. The comedy takes on a Full Monty vibe when the car salesman sets out to save his financially strapped family and town by conscripting his buddies into the makeup business to win a regional contest.
Stephen Chow has bowed out of Sony’s The Green Hornet, leaving the Columbia Pictures project to search for a new Kato, the sidekick of playboy-turned-vigilante Brit Reid, which is played by Seth Rogen. According to Variety, sources said Chow left on amicable terms and had several other projects he wanted to pursue that didn’t fit with “Hornet’s” production schedule. Michel Gondry is directing the film. Chow had initially signed on to direct the film as well, but then opted just to play Kato, the role Bruce Lee took in the original 1960s TV show.
The Hack/Slash comic-book film project is finally getting off the ground. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fredrik Bond has signed on to direct it. The film is based off the comic book created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Casselli, which revolves around Cassie Hack, who symbolizes the one woman that survives at the end of most horror films, but has become much more than that. Not only has Hack survived, but she has transformed into a hunter of the supernatural serial killers who plague the world. The script was written by Justin Marks and the film, now with a director firmly in place after many had come and gone, is eyeing a winter start date for production.
According to E! Online, both Courteney Cox-Arquette and David Arquette will be returning for Scream 4. “We’re going to be doing Scream 4,” David Arquette told the site. “Kevin Williamson is writing the script at this moment, and hopefully Wes Craven is going to direct.” Neve Campbell was said to turn down a chance to reprise her role in the sequel, but Arquette added, “I hope Neve does it. I really hope so.”

According to Wes Craven Scream 4 is definitely going ahead plus both Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette, are almost signed and will be returning to the film, but according Craven they’re the only ones who are returning.
“I’ve been told, and I don’t think they’ll mind if I say this, the deals on David Arquette and Courteney are virtually set. I believe everybody else will be new.”
The always excellent Filmstalker found the news and it isn’t just confirmation of the film being made. It is possible that Craven himself may be directing it.
“I had a brief conversation with Kevin [Williamson], I know that Kevin is writing. What I’ve said to Bob is I’m not closed to it, I’m not open to it, I’ll be perfectly happy to read a script and tell him what I think. That’s where it’s at and I’m not expecting a script until August. I don’t know what the premise is or
“Bob Weinstein (The Weinstein Company co-chairman) has talked to me, he’s interested in me directing it.”
Kevin Williamson also confirmed to Craven that it’s going to be a trilogy:
“I don’t think it’s a reboot and Kevin, when he talked to me, said, ‘Remember, it’s not just Scream 4, it’s Scream 5 and 6. So I guess he has a trilogy in mind.”
I looks as if the Arquette’s are the only cast members returning, but the fact Wes Craven could be directing the new one makes me a bit more interested in the film.
What do you think of the news? Do you want to see a new Scream film directed by Wes Craven? What do you think the story will be?

Entertainment Weekly has learned that Scream franchise writer-director Kevin Williamson has approached Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette about reprising their roles in a new Scream trilogy.
Williamson is developing the films that will bring back many of the characters from the original movies, which might start production this Autumn.
No word on whether Neve Campbell’s character will return.
Yet more film news that makes me wonder why are they bothering. I really thought that the Scream series had run its course and said everything that needed to be said.
I could maybe understand it if they made a new trilogy with new characters who reference the more recent horror films and torture porn that has been popular since the last film.
What are your thoughts on a Scream 4?
