Dinner for Schmucks tells the story of Tim (Paul Rudd), a guy on the verge of having it all. The only thing standing between him and total career success is finding the perfect guest to bring to his boss’ annual Dinner for Extraordinary People, an event where the winner of the evening brings the most eccentric character as his guest. Enter Barry (Steve Carell), a guy with a passion for dressing mice up in tiny outfits to recreate great works of art.
From Jay Roach, director of “Meet the Parents” and “Meet the Fockers” comes an unforgettable feast about two unlikely friends and one very memorable dinner.
Emma Stone (Zombieland) is in negotiations to star opposite Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling in Warner Bros.’ Crazy, Supid Love. The film is about a father (Carell) who tries to learn the ways of womanizing after his wife leaves him for another man (Gosling).
According to Variety, Stone would play Carell’s daughter and Gosling’s love interest in the film. John Requa and Glenn Ficarra will direct from a script by Dan Fogleman. Steve Carell and Denise Di Novi are set to produce, with Vance De Generes and Charlie Hartsock
I heard an unconfirmed rumor earlier today that Ricky Gervais was seriously considering reprising his role as original Office manager David Brent on the U.S. version later this season. Too good to be true, right? That’s what I thought. Well, about an hour ago, Ricky Gervais took the stage at press tour (he’s here promoting his new self-titled animated HBO comedy) and hinted that he might do something with the U.S. Office next season. Bottom line? I think there’s a very strong chance that Michael Scott is going to come face-to-face with his British doppelganger, the only question now is when.
I must admit that The Office and Extras are brilliant pieces of uncomfortable comedy – David Brent is a classic character and it will be good tp see him again, although it is not actually clear whether Ricky will be returning as that character or if it will be another. Either way Steve Carell and Ricky Gervais on screen together should be fun to watch.
What do you think of the original manager and creator of The Office appearing in the US version?

The worlds greatest villain has just met his greatest challenge: three little girls named Margo, Edith and Agnes.
Featuring the voices of Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Miranda Cosgrove, Will Arnett, Ken Jeong, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, Danny McBride and Jemaine Clement.
Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek) and David Walliams (Little Britain) are to join Steve Carell, Zach Galifianakis and Paul Rudd in Dinner for Schmucks, the Jay Roach-directed comedy for Paramount, DreamWorks and Spyglass.
Variety have the news that Walliams will play a Swiss banker that Tim Conrad (Rudd) and his Fender Financial cohorts hope to impress as a potential investor. Greenwood plays the role of the billionaire, Fender.
According to Collider this is a remake of the 1998 French film called “The Dinner Game,” written and directed by Francis Veberm.
The original film focused on a weekly gathering held by a Paris publisher, where his friends were challenged bring the most worthless guest they can find to dinner. The new version stars Steve Carell, who plays an “extraordinarily stupid man who possesses the ability to ruin the life of anyone who spends more than a few minutes in his company.”
Shaken by the impending divorce of their good friends (not to mention their tendency to turn each other off during sex) Fey and Carrell’s characters decide to reignite their own spark by going out on a date…but not as themselves. What ensues is “a real case of mistaken identity, a mob effort to kill them and a Odyssean getaway through New York City’s nightscape.”
The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Kristin Wiig, James Franco, Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg.
Not a bad cast and Fey and Carrell are both excellent comedy actors so this could be one to watch out for.

Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster are getting back together 15 years after Maverick for the $18 million comedy The Beaver reports Variety.
Gibson will play a depressed man who finds solace in wearing a beaver hand-puppet. Kind of like Lars and the Real Girl. Steve Carell and Jim Carrey had both been interested in the role.
Foster will both direct the film and play the role of the man’s wife. The actress brought the project to Gibson herself.
Kyle Killen penned the script which made last year’s coveted Blacklist. Steve Golin and Keith Redmon will produce.
Shooting begins this September in New York City.
Gibson’s going back to acting after directing, drinking and saying dodgy things. Foster is going back to directing after a bit of acting and sauciness in A Very Long Engagement.
Should be quite interesting to see how Gibson is received after his divorce and poor choice of words.
