Clash of the Titans not enough sword and sandals for you? Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto is up for a role in War of the Gods. Directed by Tarsem Singh (The Fall) production is set to start in April according to Variety.
Story follows a young warrior Theseus (Henry Cavill) who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. Pinto will play Phaedra, an oracle priestess who must join Theseus on his quest.
It does sound awfully similar to Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans starring Sam Worthington, but the fact Tarsem Singh is directing it means that it should, at the very least, be visually stunning.

Filmmaker Tarsem revealed to Empire some details about his next film War of the Gods.
“It’s turning into, basically, Caravaggio meets Fight Club. It’s a really hardcore action film done in Renaissance painting style. I’m going for a very contemporary look on top of that so I’m kind of going with, you know, Renaissance time with electricity… a bit like Baz Luhrmann doing Romeo + Juliet in Mexico; it’s just taking a particular Greek tale and half [make it contemporary] and telling it.”
Tarsem also said he’s very interested in Henry Cavill (Stardust, The Tudors) as a possible character for the film. Tarsem’s previous films The Cell and The Fall have looked amazing, but been a bit empty of a satisfying story (although I hear good things about The Fall). It sounds like War of the Gods will also look stupendous. A while ago the plot was described as this:
“A purported bastard who retains an allegiance to his mother despite the fact that he longs to join the quest of a king who is battling demons in ancient Greece later embarks on a grail of discovery that has him finding he is the king’s son and also fated to become his country’s greatest hero as he leads the successful war against long-imprisoned Titans who are hoping to use the demons to restore their power.”
Does sound interesting doesn’t it. At the very least it will be a feast for the eyes.

This is a trailer for a new film by Tarsem who did The Cell which starred Jennifer Lopez. This one is called The Fall and stars the bloke from Pushing Daisies (Lee Pace). It was made in 2006 but is only just being released. Apparantly to get a good performance from the kid the main actor pretended to be paralysed for the whole time she was on set. How’s that for messing with the minds of children!
In a hospital on the outskirts of 1920s Los Angeles, an injured stuntman (Pace) begins to tell a fellow patient, a little girl with a broken arm (Untaru), a fantastical story about 5 mythical heroes. Thanks to his fractured state of mind and her vivid imagination, the line between fiction and reality starts to blur as the tale advances.
