It is all going ahead. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back with Josh Brolin playing a young Agent Kay. Not sure if this will be flashbacks or whether Tommy Lee Jones gets youngified.
I just hope it is better than the second film.
Columbia Pictures announced today that Men in Black III will be released in 3D on May 25, 2012. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are returning to produce and Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed the first two installments of the blockbuster franchise, will direct the film from a screenplay written by Etan Cohen, based on the comic book by Lowell Cunningham. Steven Spielberg is set to executive produce.
Deals are set for Will Smith, Sonnenfeld and the producing team to return to the blockbuster franchise with the intent to begin production by this fall and the studio is in advanced negotiations with Tommy Lee Jones to reprise his role as Agent Kay. Josh Brolin is also in talks to star as a young Agent Kay.
Commenting on the announcement, Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution said, “Sony’s summer of 2012 will get off to a red hot start with an incredible new 3D adventure for the Men in Black. We couldn’t be more excited that the original filmmaking team responsible for the first two worldwide hits is reuniting for this third installment. We love where the story is taking Agents Jay and Kay and know this new chapter will deliver a fresh fun twist for fans of the franchise while also introducing the Men in Black to a whole new generation of moviegoers.”
The first two Men in Black films, which were released in 1997 and 2002, went on to become two of the most successful films in Columbia Pictures history, taking in more than $1 billion combined worldwide. The first film in the franchise won an Academy Award(r) for Best Makeup and was nominated for two other Oscars
What do you make of the news?

Director Barry Sonnenfeld has apparently been chatting with Showbiz411 about Men in Black 3D. Will Smith has signed on, Tommy Lee Jones is in, and they are just waiting on a script.
I knew that this kept surfacing, but I am surprised Will Smith has signed on already.
Past rumours have also had Josh Brolin, Sacha Baron Cohen and Jermaine Clement being in talks for roles in the film.
Not sure if I want a Men in Black 3. I enjoyed the first one, but was really disappointed in the second. Minid you I am glad Tommy Lee Jones could be back.
Do you want a third one? What do you want to see in it?

The Aliens are coming, the Aliens are coming. Looks like Will Smith is going to be back for a double dose of Independence Day. Turns out 20th Century Fox have lots of money after the success of Avatar so what will they do next? IESB have some info:
Recently, writer/producer Roland Emmerich [said] Fox just wasn’t willing to cut their teeth over the list price for one Will Smith. Being the only movie-star in the world (an actor who guarantees asses in seats), Smith gets $20 million up front plus first dollar gross. That alone has stopped the studio cold from moving forward. Until now it seems.
IESB.net have the news that Will Smith is now locked for not only Independence Day 2, but also a third installment. The plan would be to shoot both films back-to-back. According to our sources, if all goes according to plan, the sequel(s) could shoot as early as 2011.
However, Roland Emmerich is down to make William Shakespeare thriller, Anonymous and Will Smith is meant to be making either The City That Sailed or Men in Black 3.
Will Independence Day sequels trump those projects? Do you want a sequel?

Josh Brolin has been going from strength to strength lately. From The Goonies to W., Milk, No Country for Old Men and the forthcoming Jonah Hex he is definitely, like Hanzel, so hot right now. He was also cool in Planet Terror and is also working on Wall Street 2 and has signed up for the Coen Brothers True Grit remake.
News today from Hero Complex suggests he is being considered for a role in Men in Black 3 where he would be donning the suit and shades with Will Smith likely to return as Agent J.
The question is what role would Brolin be playing? Will Tommy Lee Jones be passing the title of Agent K to him or will Brolin be playing a younger version of Agent K? Maybe the plot will involve time travel shenanigans. Maybe Brolin will be the big bad of the piece.
Sony is currently contemplating a production start for the picture in 2010 (though it has yet to be greenlit). The film, which is based on a script by “Tropic Thunder” writer Ethan Cohen and which tentatively has Barry Sonnenfeld coming back to direct, could shoot at least partly in New York.
It all sounds like it could be very, very cool. I thought the first film was great. Funny, good action and nice chemistry between Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. However, cast your mind back to Men in Black 2. That wasn’t so hot now was it and I felt it kind of killed the series.
Still, third time’s the charm and if they get a cracking story it could work. It would be nice if Tommy Lee Jones was also in it for that No Country for Old Men team up again. Would be nice to see Brolin and Jones actually share some screen time together.
What are your thoughts on Brolin fighting the scum of the universe? Do you want a Men in Black 3? How can they improve on the second film?

This is another one of those newsy non-news kind of things. Roland Emmerich is pushing his new disaster movie 2012. However, when speaking to MTV he again mentioned a sequel to his alien invasion movie, Independence Day.
“What we want to do in the next – it’s actually two movies – we want to do a bigger arc,” he explained. “‘Independence Day’ was always like the king who leads his troops into battle against an evil force, and that stays like that.”
So the plan is not just one sequel but two. And Emmerich has got a nifty title in mind: “‘ID4-ever,’ Part I and II maybe?” he suggested.
There is no script but Will Smith is apparantly going to be involved “The idea is just to continue the story and actually I don’t know how many years ago this was—twelve, thirteen, fourteen years ago—and just continue where it ended.”
There you have it. Basically it is just being talked about.
However, thinking about it a sequel set all these years after could be pretty cool. How has society moved on after the invasion? Did we become one planet united or did it all fracture and go to crap again? How has the alien technology been used and adapted? Loads of potential there, but it could just end up with a bigger, meaner alien species heading to Earth.
The comic book, Resurrection, by Marc Guggenheim (WOLVERINE) and drawn by David Dumeer, goes along similar lines. That would make a great movie. You can read the first issue here.
I always looked on the aliens in the first one being on the run from another alien species and moving from planet to planet. That’s just me. ID4 was a bit hit and miss, although the audio book spin off with the aliens invading London with only Patrick Moore to stop them was cool.
What are your thoughts on a sequel? What should be in it? Should Bill Pullman still be President?

In a conversation before he heads to the Toronto film festival with a Wayne Gretzky documentary, Berg confirmed for MTV News that both Smith and Theron will certainly be returning for more “Hancock” hero-dom.
“Everybody’s going to come back for a sequel,” Peter Berg said in response to a question about the two megastars.
Berg’s comments confirm what Theron told us last September when she said she’d happily return if the rest of the key players returned too.
“Riding the Will Smith train is a really nice train to ride!” she laughed.
The big reveal at the end of “Hancock” was that [Spoiler Alert!] both Smith and Theron’s characters are immortal gods who become vulnerable when near each other. For the sequel, Berg said we can expect the appearance of at least one more all-powerful god. What’s more, he’s got his eye on a well-known name to play a third superhero.
“We have [someone in mind],” Berg said. “I’m not gonna tell you who, but we have!”

A third installment of the Bad Boys franchise is in the works at Columbia Pictures, which has set Peter Craig to write the screenplay.
According to Variety, the hope is to have a script that would reunite director Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. At this point, with the project in the early stages, none has a deal to return.
The Bad Boys movies star Smith and Lawrence as Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, caught up in cases involving car chases and explosions.
All parties have expressed a willingness to return if a story can be hammered out. One potential hurdle, however, would be the costly deals with the players.
No production date has been set.

Last week I mentioned that Peter Berg had an idea for a sequel to Hancock (more on the plot details here). Looks as if it was more than just an idea as The Hollywood Reporter are saying that Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara have been hired to write the screenplay for Sony’s sequel to Hancock.
Both Fierro and Mazzara wrote for FX’s “The Shield”. Fierro also wrote for “24″ and “Dexter” while Mazzara wrote and executive produced the Starz adaptation of “Crash”.
The first Hancock, with a screenplay by Vincent Ngo and Vince Gilligan, took over ten years to make it to the big screen and was originally called Tonight He Comes. The first film made $624 million so I get the feeling the sequel will be with us quite a bit sooner. I just hope they manage to make the last half better this time.

Peter Berg, director of the superhero movie Hancock, has some ideas for a sequel if one ever comes to pass, and he shared his ideas with SCI FI Wire.
At the end of last year’s Hancock, it was revealed that Will Smith’s superpowered character was actually an immortal god who became vulnerable only when in the presence of his goddess companion (Charlize Theron). Berg confirmed that a sequel would elaborate on the film’s mythology.
“There might be another god out there,” Berg said in an exclusive interview last month in Pasadena, Calif. “Might be another one.”
Berg also confirmed that the subplot of Jason Bateman’s publicist character should pick up where it left off in Hancock, where he’s starting his charity campaign.
Columbia Pictures would obviously like another one as the first made a bit of cash for them. “They like to fast-track it, but Will’s busy, I’m pretty busy,” Berg continued. “We’re excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the movie to be right. We don’t feel a burning imperative to go right back into it.”
Would you want to see Hancock again? If there is a third God what effect could they have on each other and who would play the new character?
