Let Me In – Poster for the Let The Right One In remake

Posted by LiveFor on January 3, 2010

Directed by Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves and starring Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) as the vampire and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) will play the boy in the remake of the Swedish classic.

This is supposedly due out this year. Still not sure whether this needed to be remade. Especially so close to the original. Plus I think the Swedish setting worked so well in the original.

What are your thoughts on the original and the remake?

The remake of this film, as you say is UTTERLY redundant, no matter what the credentials of the team behind it. If anything the fact that the film was in Swedish with subtitles added to the terror for me. I just feel this is one film project that does not need to be made. I hope does not end up being over-Americanised.

I wrote a post on “Let The Right One In” a few months ago. I thought it was such a wonderful film. When I heard that they were remaking it, I thought it was a tiny slap in the face of the filmmakers, especially when the original film was released not two years ago. What more does a remake have to say? I do think Smit-McPhee is a great choice, but Matt Reeves as director? It’s hard to tell what’s going to come out. Here’s the link to my review:

    Love, loss, and Swedish vampires.

At first I was really apprehensive about an American remake of such a great Swedish vamp movie because I was sure they’d make it into a horror film, but the poster looks more faithful to the film than I expected. Plus I have faith in those two young actors as well as the director. We’ll just have to see what the trailer’s like.
