The Smurfs – First look at Hank Azaria as Gargamel

Posted by LiveFor on May 1, 2010

Smurfin’ Hell! Still not excited about a Smurf’s film, but I think the kids will love it. They seem to have the look right for it so far.

In the 3D August 3, 2011 release, the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village and they tumble from their magical world into ours – in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

The cast includes Neil Patrick Harris (Johan), Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara (Odile-Johan’s wife), Anton Yelchin (Clumsy Smurf), Jonathan Winters (Papa Smurf), Katy Perry (Smurfette), Alan Cumming (Gutsy Smurf), Fred Armisen (Brainy Smurf), George Lopez (Grouchy Smurf), and Paul Reubens (Jokey Smurf).

Black Nerd wants to be in The Smurfs Movie

Posted by LiveFor on April 27, 2010

Well I suppose someone has to be in it alongside Hank Azaria, Katy Perry, Neil Patrick Harris. Help poor Black Nerd get his wish.

I am a huge fan of Smurfs and a big Smurf collector. So it is only fitting that I want to be in The Smurfs Movie with Neil Patrick Harris! It’s destiny! It’s fate! It has to happen! If we can get Betty White on SNL, we can get Black Nerd in the Smurfs Movie! So join the fight! Now! http://BlackNerdComedy.com

Black Sky – Band of Brothers vs Cthulhu in Templesmith’s animated film

Posted by LiveFor on April 21, 2010

“World War Squid.” This sounds right up my street. Comic book artist Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night, Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse, Fell) is working on an “Illustrated Film” the goal of which, is to meld the cinematic storytelling style of comics with good audio/voice acting & some animation/CGI in places. That in itself sounds interesting, but wait until you get to what Black Sky is all about. Here is what he had to say on his website:

All I can say is sort of Band Of Brothers…but with SQUID. ( Well, Cthulhu-ish ideas and my love of all things tentactular ) Yes, it’s a war comic. Want to get all emotional and down and dirty with it. Not exactly comedy in the vein of Wormwood… It’s post apocalyptic. I deals with a small group of soldiers, as the human race is reduced to relatively low tech solutions to claw back their planet, the new religion that drives them on to this goal in the face of hopelessness…and all the stuff that comes from such things. Many horrific and hopefully, some touching “tales from the front” in many ways. And of course, they’ll end up being players in a major event that may define the now generations long conflict. Lots of action but with an actual point to it I hope, rather than an excuse to simply draw “cool” things.

Humans are such fragile things.

Squid, not so much.

No news on when we will see it, but anyone else looking forward to it?

Akira – Tetsuo 12″ Action Figure

Posted by LiveFor on April 19, 2010

Usually it is all about Kenada and his bike but check out the loveliness of poor twisted Tetsuo.

The figure is by Medicom Toys x Project BM! and is going for 18,690Yen (via Blister.jp / US$203).

Tetsuo comes with duo interchangeable heads (with different facial expressions), and the RAH301-body form featuring a cyborg-right-arm. Sadly no giant mutated arm.

Now we can all shout Tetsuoooo and Kanedaaaa until the psychic storm hits.

Scorsese to shoot Hugo Cabret in 3D

Posted by LiveFor on April 14, 2010

Martin Scorsese’s next film is The Invention of Hugo Cabret based on the book by Brian Selznick. It also looks as if he is going to give this new fangled 3D thingy a go according to Variety.

Judging by the synopsis below it could well work as a 3D film and the fact Scorsese wants to shoot it that way means there will be no post conversion to mess things up.

ORPHAN, CLOCK KEEPER, AND THIEF, twelve-year-old Hugo lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. But when his world suddenly interlocks with an eccentric girl and the owner of a small toy booth in the train station, Hugo’s undercover life, and his most precious secret, are put in jeopardy. A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message all come together…in The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

This 526-page book is told in both words and pictures. The Invention of Hugo Cabret is not exactly a novel, and it’s not quite a picture book, and it’s not really a graphic novel, or a flip book, or a movie, but a combination of all these things. Each picture (there are nearly three hundred pages of pictures!) takes up an entire double page spread, and the story moves forward because you turn the pages to see the next moment unfold in front of you.

The film stars Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas), Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass), Ben Kingsley, and Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat). It is due for release on 9th December 2011.

Are you interested to see what Scorsese does with 3D?

Tron Legacy – ENCOM’s Tech Consultant Alan Bradley speaks

Posted by LiveFor on March 26, 2010

Alan Bradley was a computer programmer who wrote the computer program Tron. He was also COO of ENCOM until the 1990s.

Alan Bradley was a programmer at ENCOM in 1982, when he wrote Tron, a security program that was able to shut down the MCP, the administrative program that was controlling ENCOM’s mainframe system.

In an exclusive interview with IGN, Alan talks about the company and the mysterious disappearance of Kevin Flynn.

He looks an awful lot like the Commander of Babylon 5. Anyone else with me on that?

Kuky Returns – Lovely looking stop motion live action animated film

Posted by LiveFor on March 20, 2010

Check out the trailer for this Czech film. Looks great and really captures that feeling of childhood.

Kuky Returns is the story of a boy six Ondra, who suffers from asthma, and so on “health reasons” must be off his favorite toy – a pink bear kuky. When mom Kukyho throw in the trash, it will work Ondrová fantasy in which experienced Kukyho adventure in an unknown natural world. It’s really just a dream a little boy or kuky actually went to the biggest adventure of his plush life

Kuky Returns is an adventure, a poetic family story in which the main role, however, take the heroes of children’s fantasy worldwhere the only heroes are the puppets. “I thought then change the scale and place the story directly into the microcosm, his protagonists make small enough that the roots of the tree decorations, light in the atmosphere made raspberry leaves, fuzz was all the props and extras natural insects,” says Jan Sverak, who is also the author scenarios and as with most of his recent films also the producer.
