Jeffrey Dean Morgan would love to play Lobo but first he’s in Red Dawn

Posted by LiveFor on September 14, 2009

Jeffrey_Dean_Morgan_972088It was announced a few days ago that Guy Ritchie was going to direct an adaption of the DC Comic character Lobo. Now Watchmen’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who is currently playing Clay in another DC Comics Silver/Goldsman production, The Losers, has said he would like to play him.

“Lobo would be very cool,” Morgan told a group of reporters last week. “I don’t think that I’m as big as Lobo is, but if you could, like, transplant Mickey Rourke’s body onto my head, that would be just great.”

Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona are producing Lobo, and Don Payne’s script is said to be ready. Originally created as a peripheral character in Keith Giffen and Roger Slifer’s Green Lantern spinoff comic Omega Men, Lobo was reinvented as an antihero in the early 1990s by writer Alan Grant and artist Simon Bisley, who elevated the exaggerated biker persona to epically monstrous levels.

“[Graphic novels] are an untapped world for me,” added Morgan speaking to Sci-Fi Wire, “Every time I kind of hear about something, I go out and get the book or I look it up on one of your guys’ sites. We’ll see. You’re always looking for material that’s kind of smart and fun, and this seems to be where it is right now. The studios are really gravitating towards it. More than I’ve ever seen them gravitate towards anything in a long time. Comic books are really the thing right now and I don’t see that going away for at least the next couple of years.”

I think this could actually be a good piece of casting. Morgan was great as the Comedian and he could turn on the badness again to play Lobo. I still think the Main Man will be fully CGI with an actor providing the voice.

EW also have the news that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will also be starring in MGM’s remake of Red Dawn. He is in final negotiations to portray Lt. Andrew Tanner, the role played in the original by Powers Boothe. However, whereas in the original Boothe played a fighter pilot shot down behind enemy lines, in the remake Morgan’s Tanner will be a special forces leader, operating behind enemy lines. Production on the film starring Chris Hemsworth and Josh Peck as the leaders of a group of teenagers who band together to fight back against an invasion by Chinese and Russian soldiers has already begun in Michigan. It will open next September

What do you think about Jeffrey Dean Morgan playing Lobo?

I Am Legend Prequel? Just what we didn’t need

Posted by LiveFor on September 25, 2008

Warner Bros has greenlit a prequel to I Am Legend. Will Smith has signed on to reprise his role as Robert Neville, and Francis Lawrence has returned as director. According to Variety, D.B. Weiss (The Game) is writing the script based on a detailed plot outline that was developed over the past few months by Smith, Lawrence, Akiva Goldsman (producer and screenwriter of the original).

The prequel will follow Neville in the last days before and after the man-made virus kills/mutates New York City. A sequel was considered, but obviously wouldn’t have been possible without starting over with a completely new lead character/actor. No word on if author Richard Matheson was consulted about the film.
