The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen – The American version. B A Baracus, Doc Jack Burton, MacGyver and more

Posted by LiveFor on April 2, 2010

A great April Fool joke but a cool, funny concept nonetheless. Comics Alliance posted the joke that Alan Moore’s next installment would go over the Atlantic – Lisa from Weird Science, MacGyver, Doc Brown from Back to the Future, B.A. and Jack Burton from Big Trouble in Little China.

When war-hero-turned-handyman Kesuke Miyagi is found drained of blood, it becomes clear that the occult gang known as the Lost Boys are targeting the only individuals that can stop them from complete domination of America. It’s the perfect case for the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen–except that their government contact, Oscar Goldman, disbanded the team in 1979 after they defeated Mr. Han’s army of the living dead.

Now, disgraced scientist Emmet Brown has to put together a new team to combat the growing threat of the Lost Boys and their leader, a newly resurrected vampire kingpin Tony Montana: Transportation specialist Jack Burton, ex-commando B.A. Baracus, tech wizard Angus MacGyver and the mysteriously powerful femme fatale known only as “Lisa.” But will Brown be able to stop the Lost Boys before time runs out?

Check out the paintings behind the new team – the Bandit, Six Million Dollar Man, Serpico, Rocky, Shaft.

Can you think of any other USA teams through the ages or teams from Japan?

Lovely geek/nerd stuff. Great April Fool as well.

UPDATED: Watchmen 2 may happen – Hurm! Warren Ellis won’t be involved

Posted by LiveFor on February 4, 2010

UPDATE: Warren Ellis kindly took the time to write in the comments that he would not be involved in this in any way. I think this could well be the feeling of many comic book professionals. END OF LINE

The always excellent Bleeding Cool have some worrying news. A Watchmen sequel might be in the works.

Back in the day DC Comics President Paul Levitz had stopped any Watchmen 2 projects. He felt that this would go against Watchmen creator’s Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons hopes for the story. This was quite cool of Levitz as Moore had a huge break-up with DC Comics and Paul Levitz.

Then things changed as things do and Paul Levitz left DC Comics. Dan DiDio, DC’s Senior Vice President, stepped in and decided to prove that Watchmen 2 is a viable project and something that can be done. He wants to do “multiple prequel comic miniseries and spinoff ongoing projects.”

Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons still have to be offered first refusal before any of these new titles could be published. They most likely won’t want to take on these jobs and it looks like DiDio has actually been looking for writers. If there are comics there could well be another film.

I say thee nay! Watchmen was a standalone classic and anything else is just going to get on people’s nerves. Mind you if they go prequel then that may not be so bad, especially if Grant Morrison or Warren Ellis were involved. Garth Ennis doing a Rorschach prequel could be great. I still think it stinks though.

Would you want some more Watchmen comics? Who would you want to write them and what characters would you want to see in it? Would you want other DC heroes to appear in the comics?

Guy Fawkes Night everyone

Posted by LiveFor on November 5, 2009

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot…

Be careful with the fireworks.

Hmm, Hugo Weaving wore a mask for the whole of this film. Would he make a good Judge Dredd?

Oh and remember, remember the flux capacitor was invented on this day.

Happy Birthday to Sam Rockwell, Famke Janssen, Corin Nemec, Robert Patrick, Armin Shimerman, Tilda Swinton and whoever else had a birthday today.

Watchmen – The Ultimate Collector’s Edition

Posted by LiveFor on July 10, 2009

If you go and buy the Watchmen: Director’s Cut on Blu-ray Disc that is all well and good. It was a film I really enjoyed and it will be great to see the extra scenes edited into the film. Below is the scene of Hollis Mason’s death.

However, HDR spotted a flier in the pack that gives $10 off the upcoming Ultimate Collector’s Edition of Watchmen.

It is due out in December and will span a 5 discs. The director’s cut set is three discs, one of which is dedicated to the standard definition digital copy.

The Ultimate version will have a new commentary track from director Zack Snyder and Dave Gibbons, 2+ hours of bonus content including Hollis Mason’s Tell All “Under the Hood,” and the complete Watchmen Motion Comics. If you play it with the sound off you have Alan Moore’s commentary track!

Tales of the Black Freighter will be “woven into” the director’s cut of watchmen for an all-new creative cut of the film. It also features the complete Watchmen motion comic.
What cut of the film will you be picking up?

300 sequel may have the return of Gerard Butler?

Posted by LiveFor on July 3, 2009

“Frank Miller’s working on something,” revealed producer Mark Canton when MTV spoke to him, telling them that he’s onboard to return for Snyder’s 300 sequel. “That, Zack has said.”

“Things are always looking good with ‘300,’ it’s a blessing and a gift. Zack’s a genius, and no matter where you go it’s the one movie that people around the world seem to somewhat identify with the most,” explained Canton “We’re thrilled for [a sequel]; it’ll be a blast. There’s a new Blu-Ray coming out all over again shortly, so that’s great. It’s like the gift that never stops giving.”

“[The key to the sequel] is about getting it right, you know,” the producer said of their dilemma after having killed off virtually the entire cast in the first film. “Frank is a perfectionist, and so is Zack. And I think they set the bar pretty high.”

Canton had the surprising news that even Gerard Butler’s King Leonidas could be brought back from the dead. “Never assume anything; never assume anything,” he repeated when I asked if the original cast were gone for good. “It’ll be what it’ll be. But if we really do it, in this case, we have a visionary creator and a visionary filmmaker.”

I loved 300. Thought it was great, but I really don’t see any need for a sequel. Especially if they bring characters back whose whole point was to die a warriors death. However, if it was a prequel then of course it would make sense for the characters to return or maybe it will be another tale told to the warriors waiting to go into battle.

I am also a bit fed up with this visionary creator tag continuously being slapped on Zack Snyder. He has not yet created anything visionary. Dawn of the Dead was a remake, 300 and Watchmen were pretty much the comic book on screen – all creations of other visionaries – George Romero, Frank Miller, Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

Is Snyder a visionary? How do you think Butler could return as Leonidas? Should he return?

The “Complete Experience” Blu-Ray disc is out on 21st July.

UPDATED: New Photo of Michael Myers from Halloween 2

Posted by LiveFor on May 22, 2009

This image from Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 is a preview of a film clip that will air this Sunday on MTV.

UPDATE: Thanks to Graham Linehan for his rather succinct post on Twitter linking to this post:

May I present the least exciting/interesting/valuable blog post of the week. http://bit.ly/DSbvh

It did make me chuckle and nice to know the writter of the excellent Father Ted, Big Train and The IT Crowd has spent a little time looking at the site. Plus he has met Alan Moore which is just all kinds of cool.

More photos of Tyler Mane as Michael Myers and the teaser trailer for H2. Plus lots more banal things!
