“The only winning move is not to play.” – WarGames computer up for sale

Posted by LiveFor on April 13, 2010

Whoa there fella! Before you get too excited it isn’t WOPR up for sale (the supercomputer that almost causes World War 3 in John Badham’s 1983 movie).

Instead it is the computer Matthew Broderick uses to get into all sorts of shenanigans. You can see it in the photo above – the box with the red and blue switches.

It is the IMSAI and it is going up for sale soon with an estimated price of £25,000. Over to current owner Thomas “Todd” Fischer of

It is a singularly unique, one-of-a kind creation developed in the mid-1970’s that significantly helped generate a new and encompassing technology that permeates our world’s present environment in almost any way you can imagine.

The “WarGames IMSAI” with its associated props and provenance will soon be offered for sale. Agonizing as it is to part with such an iconic and inspirational part of computer and film history, it is a decision which is better left to me to deal with, as we are only temporary caretakers of our possessions.

It is currently appraised at over $25,000, potentially making it the most expensive “personal computer” ever! It is widely considered one of the top five “Movie Computers” of all time, and the only one which was a real commercial product!

Method and details of the upcoming sale are still being formulated, and will be in association with my good friend Sellam Ismail (, world-renowned computer curator, expert, and fellow mining enthusiast.

Cheers to Rich for sending me the link.

Nemesis – You could be the hero going up against Mark Millar’s bad guy

Posted by LiveFor on January 26, 2010

Like he did with Kick-Ass, comic writer Mark Millar is auctioning off the chance the have your name as one of the main characters in his forthcoming comic book, Nemesis. No not the Warlock or the Suicide Squad bloke, this is the one about a person like Bruce Wayne / Batman but with the mentality of The Joker. Every year he picks a cop to mess with and you could be the cop.

Mark Millar described it as, “What if this genius billionaire was just this total shit, and the only thing that stood between him and a city was the cops? It’s Batman versus Commissioner Gordon, in a weird way. Or maybe a super-villain version of “Se7en.” A billionaire anarchist up against ordinary people. The Joker’s the best thing in the Batman movies, so this guy is a bit of an amalgamation of all the stuff we like.”

Nemesis is the world’s smartest man, and the bad news for us is that he’s the world’s only super-villain. That means he’s got freeze guns and jump-jets and all these James Bond gadgets and he’s using them against us. To entertain himself, he picks a different cop every year and makes his life a misery. The book opens with him fucking over Japan’s top cop, and then our story, the mini-series, takes place as he shifts his attention to Washington and his first American attacks.” – more here

Here’s more about the auction from the ebay listing:

WIN A STARRING ROLE IN THE UPCOMING “NEMESIS” Comic Book Series! Benefit auction debuts Monday, January 25th, 2010 for a special cause.

(January 25, 2010) — Have you ever imagined yourself as the star of a comic book? Award-winning writer Mark Millar is offering YOU that chance! Millar’s upcoming comic book, “Nemesis” (illustrated by Millar’s co-creator, best-selling artist Steven McNiven), is about the fight between America’s smartest cop and the world’s one and only super-villain. Who is that cop? Well, that’s where you come in!

Dynamic Forces will be hosting an auction to name that cop, and the winner’s name will be immortalized as the hero of the story! Best of all, all proceeds raised from this once-in-a-lifetime event will go directly into a special fund that will assist handicapped children. “My older brother, Dr. Bobby Millar, works with these children every day and he explained to me what a difference it would make if they could get a new bus,” Mark Millar explains. “Resources are tight at all schools and hospitals in the current economic climate, but we had a great success with the Kick-Ass auction and feel hopeful that comic-book readers will dig deep again and they can build towards this pretty hefty amount of cash they need for the vehicle. Steven and I have had an amazing run of luck with Civil War and Old Man Logan and we’re hoping “Nemesis” will be similarly massive. To star as a comic-book hero is pretty cool and the intense movie-studio and production-company interest for “Nemesis” before the book even hits the stands should bode well that whoever wins this auction will get their name out there in many other media too, just like Dave Lizewski. I really hope people get behind this as the staff at the school do a terrific job and the kids would be delighted with this nice, new bus everyone has their eye on.” “We’re thrilled to help Mark out here with this awesome auction and to raise some much-needed money for a truly worthy cause,” stated Dynamic Forces President Nick Barrucci. “‘Nemesis’ is poised to be another break-out book from Mark and Steven, and the chance to be in the book is the opportunity of a lifetime. Am I eligible to win?”

The auction goes live starting Monday, January 25, 2010!

Millar has had amazing success with his creator-owned characters being picked up for movies and it was only a few years ago that Dave Lizewski was immortalized as the winning bidder for the Kick-Ass auction. Now, Dave will now be immortalized forever in comic books, movies, and upcoming video games and toys. Be sure to bid at for your chance to be the next Dave Lizewski (or Peter Parker)!

There you have it. Get bidding and your name could be in a comic book, and most probably a feature film somewhere down the line. Still no word if Sam Raimi or Guy Ritchie will be directing it though.

Want to play golf with Bill Murray and Chevy Chase?

Posted by LiveFor on November 14, 2009

caddyshack1Oh my God. How awesome would this be? Go and bid. Unfortunately I don’t have $15000.

Includes: a round of golf for 2 people with Chevy Chase and Bill Murray. Will take place at a great golf course in the NYC area. Valid for 2 people, based on a mutually agreeable time

Caddyshack is a 1980 American comedy film directed by Harold Ramis and written by Brian Doyle-Murray, Ramis and Douglas Kenney. It stars Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, Michael O’Keefe and Bill Murray. Doyle-Murray also has a supporting role.

This was Ramis’ first feature film and was a major boost to Dangerfield’s film career; previously, he was known mostly for his stand-up comedy. Grossing almost $40 million in the U.S. alone (16th highest of the year), it was the first of a series of similar comedies. In 2000, Caddyshack was placed at number 71 on the American Film Institute’s list of the 100 funniest American films. In 2005, a line from the movie was chosen by AFI for their list of the top 100 movie quotes from U.S. films. This film is also second on Bravo’s “100 Funniest Movies”.

Fans of Caddyshack- and of course that includes the most famous golfer on the planet- Tiger Woods- who quotes Caddyshack as his favorite film- will never get the opportunity to relive live the experiences from this movie classic!

Donated by: Chevy Chase, Bill Murray

Terms: Includes: a round of golf for 2 people with Chevy Chase and Bill Murray. Will take place at a great golf course in the NYC area. Valid for 2 people, based on a mutually agreeable time.
