The Phantom – Syfy’s reboot of the Ghost Who Walks

Posted by LiveFor on April 23, 2010

THE PHANTOM original miniseries event premieres 2010 on Syfy

The legendary superhero returns in this modern-day and action packed miniseries event. When Kit Walker (Ryan Carnes) learns of his father’s death, the adventurous young man inherits the mantle of his superhero father. As the new Phantom, the 21st in the Walker line, Kit vows to uphold and honor his ancestors’ creed—to fight crime and injustice throughout the world.

Er, not sure about this one. Maybe it should be the Ghost who shouldn’t bother. Hopefully it is just the trailer but this looks like a mix of many other things. We shall have to wait and see.

Billy Zane couldn’t manage to bring the classic pulp hero into our hearts and not sure if this will either.

What did you think of the trailer?

Superman or Batman – Billy Zane chatting to Christopher Nolan?

Posted by LiveFor on April 16, 2010

Bit of an odd one this. I got an email from someone in the States saying that Billy Zane had been talking with Christopher Nolan – director of the Batman films and shepherd of the Superman films whenever they get made.

As you will know I am a big fan of Billy Zane. He’s a cool dude after all. Even when the film is poor, and many of his are, Zane is always fun to watch and let us not forget he was in Titanic which made a bit of money. He was also in The Phantom which wasn’t too good and had the distinction of one of the worst taglines for a comic book movie – Slam Evil! – What were they thinking.

Getting back to the Zane and Nolan chatting. I thought this is obviously a rumour, but then I got another email from a different source who is usually pretty reliable. They said the same thing. I’ve asked for clarification, but nothing yet. I still have my doubts about the while thing.

However, I thought this would lead to some good discussion as to what character Zane could play if he was somehow involved in the next Batman film or a Superman reboot. Hell, let’s throw it open to the Marvel Universe as well.

What character could Zane play in a comic book movie?

Andy M and I always thought he would have been a perfect Batman back in the day. His Bruce Wayne would have been brill. Now he could make quite a cool Lex Luthor or Brainiac. As for Marvel I somehow see him a “Dum Dum” Duggan for SHIELD.

Now over to you.

Blu-Ray News – Tombstone and Darkman going blu

Posted by LiveFor on March 19, 2010

Tombstone

“I’ll be your Huckleberry” – The classic line from Val Kilmer’s Doc Holliday. Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp. Stephen Lang as a cowardly Ike Clanton, Michael Biehn as Johnny Ringo and Powers Booth as Curly Bill and so much more plus Billy Zane. That’s all you need to know. Finally it gets on Blu-Ray and I can’t wait to watch it again.

Due out in April.

Darkman

The cult classic directed by Sam Raimi and starring Liam Neeson and the bloke who played the janitor from LA Law.

The film stars Liam Neeson as Peyton Westlake, a scientist who is attacked and left for dead by a ruthless mobster, Durant (played by Larry Drake) after his girlfriend, an attorney (played by Frances McDormand) runs afoul of a corrupt developer (played by Colin Friels). Westlake survives, but is left with burns over most of his body. While hospitalized as a comatose John Doe, he is unwittingly subjected to a radical treatment that destroys the nerve endings connected to his skin, neutralizing his ability to sense physical pain but increasing his brain’s emotional output to compensate. Now half-crazed, Westlake escapes the hospital and decides to get revenge on the criminals who took his life away, but now as a masked vigilante, known as Darkman.

Due out on 15 June.

Zoolander 2 – Ben Stiller confirms it is go – Hansel and Mugatu could return

Posted by LiveFor on March 2, 2010

I am a big Zoolander fan. Makes me laugh everytime I see it and in my opinion it is one of the best films Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell have worked on. Plus it has David Bowie and Billy Zane, he’s a cool dude. A sequel has been rumoured over the years, but now Mr Stiller has been chatting to MTV about his new film Greenburg, but he got onto the subject of the Zoolander sequel.

“Yes, it is true,” Stiller confirmed of the sequel plans. “We are in the process of getting a script written. It’s in the early stages, but it’s gonna happen. We’ve been trying for years to… figure it out. It’ll have input from all the… ‘Zoolander’ people. It’s just… taken awhile.”

Most importantly: Stiller and his “‘Zoolander’ people” now have a starting point to work from. “We have a new story idea that we feel excited about and we’re going to try to go forward,” he said. “The beginning of the movie is [set]… 10 years later, and Derek & Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody even knows who they are, so they have to re-invent themselves.”

Of course, one of the biggest questions that remains is whether or not Will Ferrell’s Malaysia-hating fashion designer Mugatu will return. “If Will says yes, he definitely has to be a part of it,” Stiller said. “To me, Mugatu is one of the classic screen villains of all time.

I hope Ferrell does return as Mugatu was a great creation.

How do you feel about a Zoolander 2?

Retreat – David Tennant, Thandie Newton and Jason Isaacs in Dead Calm type of film

Posted by LiveFor on February 22, 2010

Magnet Films’ psychological thriller Retreat sounds like it could, hopefully, be very good.

According to Screen Daily, the film, to be directed by newcomer Carl Tibbetts, follows a couple (played by Newton and Isaacs) who are seeking to rebuild their relationship by taking time out on a remote island but their peace is shattered when they find a man in military uniform (Tennant) half-dead on their doorstep who tells them there is a lethal virus killing millions on the mainland.

Magnet Films producer Gary Sinyor said: “It reminded me of Dead Calm when I first read it. Only better. It’s got a similar sexual tension but the battle of wits between the characters and plot twists are constantly surprising. We’re delighted to have secured three of the UK’s most powerful actors.”

Therefore, I suggest that Billy Zane should also star as we all know he is a cool dude (can someone get me a photo of Billy Zane holding a card saying Liveforfilms.com?)

Shooting it due to start filming this May in Canada.

Watchmen of Hellgate – Billy Zane, Christopher Lee, Warwick Davies, Tom Savini and Sylvester McCoy to fight Nazis!

Posted by LiveFor on February 19, 2010

This sounds like it could be absolutely incredible. Great concept and superb genre style cast. It’s got the main man Billy Zane and Sir Christopher Lee in it.

Quiet Earth have lots more concept art and my son thinks it looks like the end of the World or the start of a new one. I must agree with them with the whole Watchmen meets League of Extraordinary Gentlement vibe, but that’s a great vibe to have (mind you the poster even uses the silhouette’s of Silk Spectre and Rorschach)

WATCHMEN OF HELLGATE shows the aftermath of a world in which Hitler won the war. The year is 2084, the place is London and a new big brother is watching. This is a totalitarian world where the Nazi Party rules. The new chancellor is guided by Hitler, who lives on as a computer program after his thoughts and ideas were downloaded.

A vigilante resistance unit called the Watchmen were born to subvert the state, lead by five common man heroes. From their secret hideout in the Hellgate Hotel, they orchestrate mayhem until their leader is captured. Then, they must enlist the help of Captain Nemo and the Nautilus in order to burrow underground in an attempt to rescue their Watchman leader.

It currently has Christopher Lee, Billy Zane, Jeff Fahey (Lost, Grindhouse), Warwick Davies (Willow, Return of the Jedi), Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead, Machete) and Sylvester McCoy (Doctor Who).

Richard Driscoll is the man behind it all and it will apparantly be in 3D.

How do you like the sound of that?

Bruce Campbell – What will he be fighting next?

Posted by LiveFor on January 19, 2010

Bruce Campbell – the Chin, the legend, the Ultimate Movie Star. Like Billy Zane, no matter how bad the film, they still ooze cool from every pore…that image sounds quite bad when written down.

You may remember that a couple of years ago Bruce appeared as himself, or a caricature of himself in My Name is Bruce. That’s the one where he gets mistaken for Ash (Evil Dead) and is asked to fight a Chinese Mummy type thing. It wasn’t that great a film – a nice little B movie – but Bruce, as usual, made the whole thing fun to watch (plus some nice cameos from some of the Army of Darkness people).

Now the man himself has announced to AICN that there is to be a sequel – Bruce vs Frankenstein. Let’s hear it from the man himself.

Hello everyone. Bruce Campbell here. This urgent message is short, because my keystrokes are monitored and I fear for my life. My partner at Dark Horse comics, Mike Richardson (normally a very rational and talented man), threatened to have his foot soldiers “crush my spleen” if I did what I am about to do. But the fans deserve to know, so with great trepidation I officially announce Bruce Vs. Frankenstein, the sequel to My Name is Bruce. Principal photography begins this fall in Oregon. I’d like to live long enough to see the cameras roll, so please, for the love of God, do not tell anyone – I can’t risk this announcement getting back to Mike! Thank you.

There you have it. He’s going up against Frankenstein (I assume it will be the Monster and not the scientist) and is bound to have a few laughs in it. Not sure if he will be directing it as he did the original. Of course it would have been nice to see him go up against a vampire in Bubba Nosferatu, but he stepped out of that a while ago and now Ron Perlman (Hellboy) is going to be wearing the white jumpsuit as Elvis.

I’m still waiting for Bruce to comment on the whole Spider-Man reboot thing.
What did you think of My Name is Bruce? Are you a fan of Bruce Campbell? Do you want to see the sequel? What films currently in production would you love to see Bruce star in?

Judge Dredd – Could Gerard Butler be heading to Mega City 1?

Posted by LiveFor on September 29, 2009

Gerard_ButlerI recently posted the fact that the comic book artist Jock (The Losers) was still working on the concept art for the new Judge Dredd film. Alex Garland (The Beach) has written the script and things are slowly moving along.

As we all know Stallone played him in the previous version (it had a great opening 10 minutes and then it just got ugly). The big question for the new one is who will they get to play Judge Dredd?

I could see someone like Bruce Campbell (he has the chin), Ron Perlman (he doesn’t mind covering his face and we all know Dredd never takes his helmet off – well not on screen anyway), Thomas Jane, Billy Zane or Jason Statham.

I have received a few emails that suggest Gerard Butler (Gamer, 300, Law Abiding Citizen) is interested in the role and has been in talks. Now I have looked around the web for confirmation of this, but so far I cannot find anything else. However, the emails I have received have all come from different unrelated sources, a couple of whom are usually spot on.

For the moment mark this one down as a great big rumour though – it is still early days and I personally don’t think they are as far along as casting.

If anyone happens to know Gerard could you ask him if this is true. I will keep digging and let you know if I find anything more.

Do you think Gerard Butler would make a good Judge Dredd? If not him who else could it be?

Be sure to check out all the other polls – Vote on who should be Captain America, Catwoman, Spider-Man. What did you think of Avatar? What’s your favourite John Carpenter film? What’s Nic Cage’s worst film and many more.

Jock still working on Judge Dredd concept art

Posted by LiveFor on September 8, 2009

1This is one of those pieces that is sort of news but isn’t. Keep on reading and you will see what I mean.

The excellent comic book artist Jock recently tweeted some kind words about Judge Dredd screenwriter Alex Garland, whose script the “Losers” artist is currently developing visuals for.

@jock4twenty working through script visuals for JUDGE DREDD movie. Alex Garland writes a great script.

The reason why I say this is not really new news is that it was known that Alex Garland (The Beach) was working on a Judge Dredd screenplay back in December of last year (more here) and there was some lovely concept art from Jock in January.

However, since then it has all gone a bit quiet. Hence the reason for this post. Looks as if things are slowly creeping forward for 2000AD’s Dredd and Mega City One. Humour me, I just love a bit of Dredd.

I don’t suppose anyone has a copy of the new script they care to send my way?

The question though is who can play Dredd in the new film? Christian Bale, Jason Statham, Bruce Campbell, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, The Rock, Ron Perlman and Billy Zane are just a few ideas. Don’t forget the original take on Dredd was based on Clint Eastwood.

Of course if the big bad of the piece is Judge Death then the main man, Doug Jones (Hellboy, Legion) is the one for that.
