The Runaways – New Trailer

Posted by LiveFor on March 5, 2010

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning star in this music-fueled story of the ground-breaking, all girl, teenage rock band of the 1970s: The Runaways. The film follows two friends, Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands. Joan and Cherie fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock impresario Kim Fowley, played by Michael Shannon, who turns the group into an outrageous success and a family of misfits. With its tough-chick image and raw talent, the band quickly earns a name for itself—and so do its two leads: Joan is the band’s pure rock ‘n’ roll heart, while Cherie, with her Bowie-Bardot looks, is the sex kitten. Written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, the film chronicles Joan and Cherie’s tumultuous relationship on and off stage, as the band starts to break out.

Johnny Depp may be in Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers

Posted by LiveFor on December 3, 2009

How’s about that for a long yet cool name for a film and a biopic no less. Although it could be some Spanish super team and their arch nemesis!

Serbian helmer Emir Kusturica is in advanced negotiations for Johnny Depp to star as Mexican revolutionary hero Pancho Villa in his upcoming biopic titled Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers according to Variety.

Kusturica, recently a guest of Italy’s Turin Film Festival, said the script, written with regular collaborator Gordan Mihic (“Time of the Gypsies,” “Black Cat, White Cat”), is completed, although shooting is not set to start until 2011, due to Depp’s prior commitments.

Salma Hayek is also in advanced talks to co-star.

The Spanish-language biopic is to be shot partly in Mexico, where Villa — an early 20th-century bandit who became a guerilla fighter and a hero to the poor — is an iconic historical figure. Depp will act in Spanish, Kusturica said.

Depp and Kusturica collaborated previously on Arizona Dream in 1993.

The script is based on the biographical novel “The Friends of Pancho Villa,” in which author James Carlos Blake recounts how Villa and his compadres had a great time fighting and robbing the rich, but also dancing, partying and making love.

Villa has previously been portrayed many times on screen by thesps such as Antonio Banderas, Telly Savalas and even Villa himself in the 1914 pic “The Life of General Villa,” which was produced by D.W. Griffith.

It will be interesting to see what Depp brings to the role.

Christopher Eccleston to play John Lennon in Beatles break-up film

Posted by LiveFor on November 30, 2009

We’ve had Beatles Rock Band, the original albums reissued and a film about John Lennon’s early years (Nowhere Boy).

Now Variety report that the turbulent and often tragic life of John Lennon is to be the subject of another British film.

In the latest biopic, commissioned by BBC Four, Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who, Heroes, Our Friends in the North, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra) plays the rock star in Naked Lennon.

The film highlights the years from 1967 to 1971 when the Beatle was ending his first marriage to Cynthia as Yoko Ono entered his life, coping with the death of manager Brian Epstein and the group’s own messy and acrimonious disintegration.

Also featured are Naoko Mori, whose credits include “Torchwood” and “Absolutely Fabulous,” who plays Ono, and seasoned British thesp Rory Kinnear as Epstein.

Other cast members include Claudie Blakley, who featured in the BBC period drama “Cranford,” as Cynthia Lennon, and Irish actor Andrew Scott as Paul McCartney.

Could be interesting, but not sure on Eccleston as Lennon? Do you think he will be able to be the Working Class Hero?
