Blu-Ray News – Tombstone and Darkman going blu

Posted by LiveFor on March 19, 2010

“I’ll be your Huckleberry” – The classic line from Val Kilmer’s Doc Holliday. Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp. Stephen Lang as a cowardly Ike Clanton, Michael Biehn as Johnny Ringo and Powers Booth as Curly Bill and so much more plus Billy Zane. That’s all you need to know. Finally it gets on Blu-Ray and I can’t wait to watch it again.

Due out in April.
Tombstone [Blu-ray] –

The cult classic directed by Sam Raimi and starring Liam Neeson and the bloke who played the janitor from LA Law.

The film stars Liam Neeson as Peyton Westlake, a scientist who is attacked and left for dead by a ruthless mobster, Durant (played by Larry Drake) after his girlfriend, an attorney (played by Frances McDormand) runs afoul of a corrupt developer (played by Colin Friels). Westlake survives, but is left with burns over most of his body. While hospitalized as a comatose John Doe, he is unwittingly subjected to a radical treatment that destroys the nerve endings connected to his skin, neutralizing his ability to sense physical pain but increasing his brain’s emotional output to compensate. Now half-crazed, Westlake escapes the hospital and decides to get revenge on the criminals who took his life away, but now as a masked vigilante, known as Darkman.

Due out on 15 June.

Tron: Legacy could be the beginning of a trilogy & original Tron on Blu-Ray news

Posted by LiveFor on March 2, 2010

The push for Tron Legacy has been gathering speed with various photos and websites cropping up all over the place…well okay, by place I mean the internet. Anyhoo, word on the street is that Disney are hoping this could be the beginning of a trilogy – that doesn’t include the original Tron.

Blue Sky Disney had the details:

2010 will be a huge year for the sequel to Tron. Huge. And should the box office returns provide what Disney Suits with smiling faces then you can expect a whole lot more over the coming years. On the theatrical front, this could be the beginning of a new trilogy. And I’m not talking about including the original Tron. If all goes according to plan you could see this as the first in a trilogy of films that start with the word “Tron” and end somewhere else… Legacy is only the beginning. There are preliminary plans to milk this into a franchise of “Pirate” proportions. And the buzz from it so far is very good.

And that’s not the only Tron project they’re planning on having for us in the possible future. The plans have been put into motion for a computer animated television series that could conceivably be up by late 2011/early 2012. This would be something of a placeholder to keep the fans interest still peaked in between this first film and the next one. No word yet on where it will wind up being broadcast. It’s not known if it’ll be staged for the Mouse’s fledgling boy channel Disney XD or the more mainstream ABC network, but as of now the concept has been greenlit. We’ll see how this project evolves down the development line as the film’s release gets closer.

Then there is the merchandise that you’re going to see flood the parks come this October/November. Expect Tomorrowland to be filled with all things Tron. And some of the areas are being talked about getting “thematic” makeovers. If you’re into Retro-Eighties with the Captain Eo attraction back for a limited run, then prepare for more, albeit fictional nostalgia. Should it get approved, you might get to see the arcade next to Space Mountain turned into a variation of “Flynn’s Arcade.” We’ll cross our fingers and see if the Suits make the call on this one.

Naturally, there’s the talk of a Tron attraction at Disneyland and various other theme parks. WDI is working on concepts for a Tron experience, but don’t expect a fully immersive Tron Legacy attraction by the time the film opens. Any attraction wouldn’t be seen in Tomorrowland until 2012 at the earliest… but that doesn’t mean there won’t be surprises between now and then.

Meanwhile, AICN have some news on the original Tron’s transition to Blu-Ray. Their source said:

It turns out my buddy and I were sitting right in front of Lisberger (Steve Lisberger – writer and director of Tron) and we overheard him talking about how he just finished over-seeing complete color-correction and major enhancements to the original TRON for BLU RAY! It sounded like he basically kept the movie the same (no CGI inserted) but corrected the colors throughout the entire film and enhanced everything. He said it was a dream to go back to something he made thirty years ago and correct it to look exactly how he would want it for the Blu Ray release (which he made no mention of when that would happen).

How do you like them apples?

Triangle – Time slip Horror heading to DVD & Blu-Ray in March

Posted by LiveFor on January 28, 2010

Icon Home Entertainment is pleased to announce the 1st March Blu-ray and DVD release of the psychological horror film TRIANGLE starring Melissa George (30 Days of Night). From acclaimed British director Christopher Smith (CREEP, SEVERANCE) Triangle is a unique conceptual horror film that that turns the genre on its head.

When Jess (Melissa George) and her friend Greg (Michael Dorman) set sail with a group of friends, she cannot shake the feeling something is wrong. When the yacht hits the eye of the storm, the group is forced to board a mysterious passing ocean liner; a deserted ship that Jess is convinced she’s been on before. Although it appears to be deserted, they soon discover that are not alone. Someone is intent on hunting them down, one by one, and Jess unknowingly holds the key to end the penultimate terror.

The Blu-ray and DVD release is jam-packed with the following Special Features:

* The Making of Triangle
* Audio Commentary with director Christopher Smith
* 3 Storyboards (The Storm, Jess Walking Through The Mirror, The Car Crash)
* Deleted Scenes
* Competition Winners Poster Design
* The Storm Special Effects Featurette

Says director Christopher Smith – “I came up with the idea that a girl arrives on a deserted ship, sees another figure on the top of the ship that we can’t identify, and then by the end of the first loop, she is that girl looking down at herself arriving. I have no idea where that came from, although I have always loved movies that play with structure and time, like “Memento” and “Reservoir Dogs”. And I wanted to employ those techniques in a psychological thriller narrative. So the idea came first, and then I had to write a story and the characters around the concept – a “Twilight Zone” idea really.”

Triangle is a completely different take on the horror or thriller genre. It’s a psychological thriller that will definitely scare you. The film is innovative and highly original and the characters have real depth, all of which combines to make it a very striking piece.” Says producer Chris Brown – “In the first fifteen minutes you think you know exactly where the film is going, and then about fifteen minutes later you have absolutely no idea what’s happening at all. It’s a real rollercoaster and a very clever piece of writing.”

Producer Jason Newmark says that Christopher Smith always works to entertain his audience, but with this film wanted to give them something new, something different and something original. Says Chris: “I’ve grown up loving horror movies but I wanted this to be something more than that. It doesn’t just work to scare you; it also works to make the audience really think. There are so many twists and turns, and I hope it will challenge the audience.”

I’ll be posting my review of the film soon and you can pre-order the film at the following links:

Sherlock Holmes will be on DVD and Blu-Ray sooner than you think

Posted by LiveFor on January 16, 2010

It has only been out at the cinema for a few weeks, but it looks as if the Guy Ritchie directed Shelock Holmes will be on your TV screen shortly.

JoBlo have the news that the film will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on 31st March.

That is an awfully fast turnaround for a film, but it has made $300 million so far worldwide.

I thought Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law were excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed the film, so it will be good to have it in my hands so soon. However, it is very surprising that it is so quick. Mind you it could be to make as much money in sales before Avatar hits the shelves (although I’m not sure I would get Avatar on Blu-Ray or DVD due to the fact it won’t be 3D). Plus they are getting the sequel shot as soon as they can.

What do you think about Holmes being released for the home market so soon?
