Bruce Campbell does an Horatio Caine – Hail to the King, Baby!

Posted by LiveFor on February 19, 2010

Here we see the mighty Bruce Campbell as Sam Axe in the excellent Burn Notice doing an impersonation of Horation Caine played by David Caruso in CSI: Miami.

The image above is nothing to do with the clip, but a cool CSI: Medieval Times thing.

Bruce Campbell – What will he be fighting next?

Posted by LiveFor on January 19, 2010

Bruce Campbell – the Chin, the legend, the Ultimate Movie Star. Like Billy Zane, no matter how bad the film, they still ooze cool from every pore…that image sounds quite bad when written down.

You may remember that a couple of years ago Bruce appeared as himself, or a caricature of himself in My Name is Bruce. That’s the one where he gets mistaken for Ash (Evil Dead) and is asked to fight a Chinese Mummy type thing. It wasn’t that great a film – a nice little B movie – but Bruce, as usual, made the whole thing fun to watch (plus some nice cameos from some of the Army of Darkness people).

Now the man himself has announced to AICN that there is to be a sequel – Bruce vs Frankenstein. Let’s hear it from the man himself.

Hello everyone. Bruce Campbell here. This urgent message is short, because my keystrokes are monitored and I fear for my life. My partner at Dark Horse comics, Mike Richardson (normally a very rational and talented man), threatened to have his foot soldiers “crush my spleen” if I did what I am about to do. But the fans deserve to know, so with great trepidation I officially announce Bruce Vs. Frankenstein, the sequel to My Name is Bruce. Principal photography begins this fall in Oregon. I’d like to live long enough to see the cameras roll, so please, for the love of God, do not tell anyone – I can’t risk this announcement getting back to Mike! Thank you.

There you have it. He’s going up against Frankenstein (I assume it will be the Monster and not the scientist) and is bound to have a few laughs in it. Not sure if he will be directing it as he did the original. Of course it would have been nice to see him go up against a vampire in Bubba Nosferatu, but he stepped out of that a while ago and now Ron Perlman (Hellboy) is going to be wearing the white jumpsuit as Elvis.

I’m still waiting for Bruce to comment on the whole Spider-Man reboot thing.
What did you think of My Name is Bruce? Are you a fan of Bruce Campbell? Do you want to see the sequel? What films currently in production would you love to see Bruce star in?

Chuck could have been in Thor. Warriors Three are going to be in it

Posted by LiveFor on November 16, 2009

300px-Zachary_Levi01In an interview with USA Weekend, Zachary Levi (Chuck) revealed that he was cast as Fandral — a heroic adventurer who along with Hogun the Grim and Volstagg comprise the trio known as the Warriors Three — before being forced to back out of the role to fulfill his commitment to Chuck. All because an extra six episodes were ordered.

He also mentions that he audition for the role of Thor which surprised me. Not sure he would have worked as that character.

This is the first confirmation we have had that the Warriors Three will be appearing in Kenneth Branagh’s film. Dominic Cooper and Jude Law are both rumoured to be have been approached to star in the film and both would make a great Fandral. However, I think Levi with a goatee and ‘tache would have been excellent as the swashbuckling warrior – I imagine him as the Bruce Campbell character from Xena.

As for the rest of the Warriors Three, veteran actor Brian Blessed — previously rumoured to play Odin — could possibly play Volstagg. Imagine Blessed’s character from Flash Gordon, but without the wings and there you have it.

Hogun the Grim could possibly be portrayed by either Colm Feore (24, The Chronicles of Riddick) or Stellan Skarsgård (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), both of whom have been confirmed to appear in Thor in currently unannounced roles, although Feore is supposedly down to play a villain in the film.

How do you think Levi would have got on as Fandral? Who would you like to see as the Warriors Three?

Preacher – Could John Cusack be Jesse Custer?

Posted by LiveFor on November 6, 2009

preacher-cassidy1In a recent interview with io9 John Cusack got chatting about a film based on a comic that he wanted to be involved with.

“It’s a vampire and a killer, and they’re on the road, and it’s this really strange story,” said Cusack.

Now Preacher by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon features Jesse Custer (who would be the priest) and Cassidy (an Irish Vampire) along with Tulip, Arse-Face, John Wayne (Bruce Campbell should play him in the film), Herr Starr and too many other twisted characters to mention.

If you’ve read the comics you will know how good they are. However, I never really picture Cusack as either JC or Cassidy.

Asked whether it Preacher he was thinking of, Cusack said, “I think it might have been ‘Preacher,'” and added that he was “trying to” get involved with the long-in-development project.

The actor, who’s appearing in theaters next weekend in the disaster flick “2012,” said he’s most interested one of the two leads, “either the vampire or the priest.”

“One of those two guys,” he said.

Last I heard about the Preacher film was that Sam Mendes was down to direct it but they were waiting for a workable script – like many others I wish it would be a series on HBO to get the full story.

Mind you maybe he is thinking of Priest which also involves priests and vampires, but that’s already started filming with Paul Bettany in the lead.

Do you think John Cusack was talking about Preacher? Would he be good in either of the roles? If not him then who would?

Now if they could get Clint Eastwood involved as the Saint of Killers.

Dylan Baker in Spider-Man 4. Will the Lizard follow?

Posted by LiveFor on October 23, 2009

dylan-bakerIn a recent Q&A following a screening of Trick ‘r Treat (I’ve got that on preorder – can’t wait), Dylan Baker did reveal that he will be reprising the role of Curt Connors (the one-armed scientist who would one day become the reptilian villain The Lizard) in Spider-Man 4:

Baker said that he had just gotten his first call concerning Spider-Man 4 that very day. Baker appeared in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 as Dr. Curt Connors, a professor at Empire State University.

When Dougherty ribbed him about “just appearing in the background” Baker said that, basically, that’s what he’d be doing. It was unclear if they were being truthful or if, in fact, Dr. Connors would become supervillain The Lizard in this fourth entry in the film series. During their riffing, Dougherty used the phrase “cocktease for another year” as to whether or not we’d see The Lizard.

I really do hope they use the Lizard in the new film as that could lead to some Raimi horror style shenanigans like he had with Doc Ock. Plus it would be a good excuse to bring in Kraven the Hunter to track down the Lizard and Spidey has to protect Dr Connors.

Sam Raimi has also said that Bruce Campbell will have a “Meatier” role in the new film. Other sites are saying this could mean he will be playing a villain such as Mysterio. However, I reckon he will be playing a butcher who interacts with Peter Parker at some point in the film.

Do you want the Lizard in the next Spider-Man film? If not him then what other villains would be good to see in it?

Also if Bruce was to play a villain which one could it be? Maybe the Chameleon and that could tie up all his previous appearances in the Spider-Man films.

Judge Dredd – Could Gerard Butler be heading to Mega City 1?

Posted by LiveFor on September 29, 2009

Gerard_ButlerI recently posted the fact that the comic book artist Jock (The Losers) was still working on the concept art for the new Judge Dredd film. Alex Garland (The Beach) has written the script and things are slowly moving along.

As we all know Stallone played him in the previous version (it had a great opening 10 minutes and then it just got ugly). The big question for the new one is who will they get to play Judge Dredd?

I could see someone like Bruce Campbell (he has the chin), Ron Perlman (he doesn’t mind covering his face and we all know Dredd never takes his helmet off – well not on screen anyway), Thomas Jane, Billy Zane or Jason Statham.

I have received a few emails that suggest Gerard Butler (Gamer, 300, Law Abiding Citizen) is interested in the role and has been in talks. Now I have looked around the web for confirmation of this, but so far I cannot find anything else. However, the emails I have received have all come from different unrelated sources, a couple of whom are usually spot on.

For the moment mark this one down as a great big rumour though – it is still early days and I personally don’t think they are as far along as casting.

If anyone happens to know Gerard could you ask him if this is true. I will keep digging and let you know if I find anything more.

Do you think Gerard Butler would make a good Judge Dredd? If not him who else could it be?

Be sure to check out all the other polls – Vote on who should be Captain America, Catwoman, Spider-Man. What did you think of Avatar? What’s your favourite John Carpenter film? What’s Nic Cage’s worst film and many more.

Bruce Campbell talks Spider-Man 4

Posted by LiveFor on September 14, 2009

bruce-campbell-2Spider-Man 4 will start shooting in January 2010, Bruce Campbell told Access Hollywood at his Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs premiere on Saturday.

The actor, who has a long relationship with director Sam Raimi via his lead role in the “Evil Dead” trilogy, made memorable cameos in the first three “Spider-Man” films. He gave Spidey his name in the first one, denied him access to the theatre as a snooty usher in the second and helped him propose unsuccesfully in the third.

However, he may have a bigger role this time around. Bruce told Access that in the next installment in the superhero franchise, he’s been told he has a major part – but didn’t yet know anything about his character.

The villain – or villains — for the movie have yet to be revealed, though some fans have speculated that Bruce could take on the role of Mysterio – the master of illusion.

The film, the follow-up to 2007’s Spider-Man 3, is due in May 2011.

I don’t think Bruce will be playing a major villain in the film, although that would be great. He will probably play another human who helps or hinders Peter Parker at some point in the film.

However, if he were to play a villain, which one would you like to see the Chin have a crack at? He would be brilliant as the devilish Mephisto and a few years back he would have been an excellent Kraven.

Jock still working on Judge Dredd concept art

Posted by LiveFor on September 8, 2009

1This is one of those pieces that is sort of news but isn’t. Keep on reading and you will see what I mean.

The excellent comic book artist Jock recently tweeted some kind words about Judge Dredd screenwriter Alex Garland, whose script the “Losers” artist is currently developing visuals for.

@jock4twenty working through script visuals for JUDGE DREDD movie. Alex Garland writes a great script.

The reason why I say this is not really new news is that it was known that Alex Garland (The Beach) was working on a Judge Dredd screenplay back in December of last year (more here) and there was some lovely concept art from Jock in January.
judge-dredd-jock-concept-jan7
However, since then it has all gone a bit quiet. Hence the reason for this post. Looks as if things are slowly creeping forward for 2000AD’s Dredd and Mega City One. Humour me, I just love a bit of Dredd.

I don’t suppose anyone has a copy of the new script they care to send my way?

The question though is who can play Dredd in the new film? Christian Bale, Jason Statham, Bruce Campbell, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, The Rock, Ron Perlman and Billy Zane are just a few ideas. Don’t forget the original take on Dredd was based on Clint Eastwood.

Of course if the big bad of the piece is Judge Death then the main man, Doug Jones (Hellboy, Legion) is the one for that.
