The Random – Laverne & Shirley, Bubo in Clash of the Titans, Salvation Boulevard, Vacation, Unknown White Male, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Earthbound, Vamps, Transformers 3

Posted by LiveFor on February 11, 2010

Valentine’s Day director Garry Marshall created the classic Happy Days spin off sitcom Laverne & Shirley, which starred Cindy Williams and Garry’s sister Penny Marshall as Milwaukee brewery workers.  Extra talked to Marshall who claimed that a film adaptation may be in the works with Jessica Biel and Jennifer Garner as the duo.

Variety are saying that Pierce Brosnan, Ed Harris, and Jim Gaffigan will star in indie feature Salvation Boulevard. The comedic thriller is set in the world of mega-churches in which a former Deadhead-turned-born again-Christian finds himself on the run from fundamentalist members of his mega-church who will do anything to protect their larger-than-life pastor.

New Line has hired screenwriters Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Sam Weir from Freaks and Geeks!) to write the new Vacation film according to Variety.  The story will focus on Rusty Griswold, now a grown man, who decides to take his own wife and kids on a road trip to Wally World before it closes forever. Chase is expected to reprise his role as Clark Griswold, now a grandfather. It will be closer in tone to Planes, Trains and Automobiles than the previous chapters.

Filming has begun on Jaume Collet-Serra’s (Orphan) next project Unknown White Male in Germany.  The film stars Liam Neeson (Schindler’s List, Clash of the Titans), Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds), January Jones (Mad Men), Aidan Quinn (The Book of Daniel), Bruno Ganz (The Reader, Downfall) and Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon) –  Liam Neeson stars as Dr. Martin Harris, who awakens after a car accident in Berlin to discover that his wife (January Jones) suddenly doesn’t recognize him and another man (Aidan Quinn) has assumed his identity. Ignored by disbelieving authorities and hunted by mysterious assassins, he finds himself alone, tired, and on the run. Aided by an unlikely ally (Diane Kruger), Martin plunges headlong into a deadly mystery that will force him to question his sanity, his identity, and just how far he’s willing to go to uncover the truth.

According to Variety screenwriters Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith are to write a remake of the 1982 musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.  The 1982 version (based off the 1978 Broadway play of the same name) starred Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton as a town sheriff and madame who team up to stop a crusading TV personality from shutting down the local whorehouse.

THR is reporting that Richard Matheson’s 1982 novel Earthbound is heading to movieland. This will join adaptions of his other books I Am Legend, The Shrinking Man and What Dreams May Come. Earthbound is described as an “erotic ghost story” about a married man who starts an affair with a young stranger, only to realize that she may actually be the ghost of a long-dead woman driven by something more than earthly passion.

Screen Daily have the news that Alicia Silverstone will reunite with Clueless director Amy Heckerling in a film called Vamps“ a modern-day tale of two young female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality.” Krysten Ritter (Confessions of a Shopaholic, Veronica Mars, Breaking Bad) will be the other Vamp alongside Silverstone.

Tyrese Gibson has confirmed that he will be back as Sgt. Epps in Michael Bays Transformers 3. In a post on Twitter, he confirmed by saying that “Yes I will for sure be in Transformers 3.. Get Ready!! Epps is here to STAY!!”.

Bubo the mechanical Owl has a cameo in Louis Leterrier’s remake of Clash of the Titans. Film School Rejects had the news, but it is not clear whether his scenes will make it into the final cut.

Want to play golf with Bill Murray and Chevy Chase?

Posted by LiveFor on November 14, 2009

caddyshack1Oh my God. How awesome would this be? Go and bid. Unfortunately I don’t have $15000.

Includes: a round of golf for 2 people with Chevy Chase and Bill Murray. Will take place at a great golf course in the NYC area. Valid for 2 people, based on a mutually agreeable time

Caddyshack is a 1980 American comedy film directed by Harold Ramis and written by Brian Doyle-Murray, Ramis and Douglas Kenney. It stars Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, Michael O’Keefe and Bill Murray. Doyle-Murray also has a supporting role.

This was Ramis’ first feature film and was a major boost to Dangerfield’s film career; previously, he was known mostly for his stand-up comedy. Grossing almost $40 million in the U.S. alone (16th highest of the year), it was the first of a series of similar comedies. In 2000, Caddyshack was placed at number 71 on the American Film Institute’s list of the 100 funniest American films. In 2005, a line from the movie was chosen by AFI for their list of the top 100 movie quotes from U.S. films. This film is also second on Bravo’s “100 Funniest Movies”.

Fans of Caddyshack- and of course that includes the most famous golfer on the planet- Tiger Woods- who quotes Caddyshack as his favorite film- will never get the opportunity to relive live the experiences from this movie classic!

Donated by: Chevy Chase, Bill Murray

Terms: Includes: a round of golf for 2 people with Chevy Chase and Bill Murray. Will take place at a great golf course in the NYC area. Valid for 2 people, based on a mutually agreeable time.

National Lampoon to have another Vacation?

Posted by LiveFor on October 7, 2009

141410__vacation_lAh, National Lampoon’s Vacation. Classic Chevy Chase. European Vacation not so good, but Christmas Vacation is another classic and gets played every Christmas in our household. However, as a series I thought it had run its course.

Not so say the money men as, according to THR, New Line is developing a sequel to the 1983 comedy classic, with David Dobkin attached to produce and possibly direct.

New Line is meeting with writers to write the script but the basic plot is this – Rusty Griswold, the son of Clark Griswold, the protagonists of the initial movies and portrayed by Chevy Chase. The younger Griswold is now a father in his own right and takes his family on a road trip vacation.

The characters would acknowledge that first trip, making the movie more of a sequel than a reboot.
Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, who played the mom in the original movies, will have room to make appearances as grandparents, providing a sense of continuity, though no deals are in place.

National Lampoon is no involved at this stage, as Warners controls the characters and the title.

New Line is taking meetings with writers this week, hoping to make a movie that skews more towards “Planes Trains and Automobiles” or “Little Miss Sunshine” than “RV” or “Are We There Yet?” which sounds a bit promising than initially thought.

Not sure if this is a good idea. All depends upon how good the script good be and who they get to play Rusty. Anthony Michael Hall (The Dead Zone, Weird Science, The Dark Knight) played him in Vacation so he could play him all grown up. Jason Lively played him in European Vacation and Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) played him in 1989’s Christmas Vacation. Out of Hall and Galecki I think the latter would be the best bet for the kind of character they seem to be going for.

In a perfect world though I would like to see Ryan Reynolds play Rusty as he was practically a young Chevy Chase in actions and delivery in the first Van Wilder movie.

However, this is all speculation on my part.

Do you want to see a new Vacation film? Who should play Rusty?

Chevy Chase will fix the Hot Tub Time Machine

Posted by LiveFor on May 29, 2009

EW has the news that Chevy Chase has been cast opposite John Cusack, Rob Corddry, and Craig Robinson (The Office) in United Artist’s Hot Tub Time Machine. It also stars Lizzy Caplan, Crispin Glover, Lyndsy Fonseca, and Clark Duke.

That is the comedy in which three grown-up guys return to the hot tub they once partied in, discover it’s a time machine, and are transported back to their days of glory.

Apparantly Chase Chase plays a mysterious repairman who dispenses pearls of wisdom and may or may not be behind the metaphysical road trip.

Steve Pink (Accepted) is directing the movie, currently in production, based on a screenplay by Josh Heald.

Sounds to me like Chase’s character will be similar to the one Christopher Walken played in that Adam Sandler film, Remote.

Jinja tells me Chase has been great in Chuck and I hope this film is a good one for him as I miss the funny Chevy Chase from Fletch. When did he get so old?

Chevy Chase looks so old. He’s in Chuck.

Posted by LiveFor on February 28, 2009

Oh Chevy Chase..what happened? You were Fletch, you were brilliant. You used to look like this.

He’s going to be starring in an episode of Chuck as an eccentric billionaire. This photo is from Entertainment Weekly. The blurb with it states:

Chevy Chase (pictured, with Zachary Levi) will pop up in three episodes beginning in early April. The funnyman plays an iconic computer genius (think: Bill Gates) whom Chuck idolizes — but who may be hatching more than just the next great laptop.

Yet they don’t mention that Scott Bakula is in the shot as well? Oh Boy!
