Jack Ryan – Chris Pine’s go at Jack gets a title and plot

Posted by LiveFor on April 12, 2010

Way back in October last year news was out that young Captain Kirk, Chris Pine, would be taking over the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan franchise.

Alec Baldwin originated the character in 1990’s “The Hunt for Red October,” Harrison Ford played him in 1992’s “Patriot Games” and 1994’s “Clear and Present Danger,” and Ben Affleck played Ryan in 2002’s “The Sum of All Fears.”

Producer Mace Neufield revealed that it was not an origins story, it would not be based on a Tom Clancy novel, and that, in reference to the movie’s starting point, “We pick him up while he’s on Wall Street.”

Now Pajiba have some more news on the plot of the film that is currently bein called Moscow (I reckon that will change):

The movie will pick up with the Jack Ryan not long after his stint in the Marines, before he’s joined the CIA, while he’s a Wall Street stock broker, an occupation that will play heavily into the script. In the Clancy novels, Jack Ryan was a successful financial analyst in Baltimore for Merrill Lynch. In the new movie, he will have transplanted to Moscow to continue his financial advising, not for Merill Lynch (which has been absorbed by Bank of America), but for a billionaire employer. It is that billionaire employer who eventually sets Jack Ryan up to take the fall for terrorist plot designed to collapse the U.S. economy.

After that, Ryan must race against time to clear his name, reveal the terrorist plot, and save his wife, who has been taken hostage by the billionaire employer.

Sounds like a nice little plot and Pine should be good as Ryan. I think a lot depends on who they get to play the bad guy and his wife. Any suggestions?

The subtle connections of a deputy sheriff, a Nashville-bound singer, an ex-con, and a single mother will intertwine in this tale of small town life. Tommy Carson (Shawn Christian) works around the clock to keep the peace in Prospect, but Donny (John Hawkes), who is on a downward spiral, makes this even more difficult for the deputy Sheriff. While Samantha (Bre Blair) does love the singer-songwriter, she comes to realize that what’s best for her daughter (Kali Majors) and their future may not be what’s best for him. dioraWe all know that Kirk had a fling with a Green Orion Woman in the new Star Trek film. That one was played by Rachel Nichols. However, sexy lady Diora Baird (Stan Helsing, Night of the DemonS) was down to play a Green Orion Woman in the film, but that was not to be….until now.

Here is the deleted scene as found by Topless Robot.

So get an actress who is famous for looking great in not very many clothes and then put her in a Star Fleet uniform – way to go J J!

Captain Kirk may be Jack Ryan

Posted by LiveFor on October 14, 2009

chrispineParamount Pictures is negotiating with Chris Pine to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan in the reboot of the franchise based on the Tom Clancy novels according to Variety.

Pine is positioned to topline his second Par franchise. He played James T. Kirk in “Star Trek,” the J.J. Abrams-directed summer hit, and will reprise the role in the sequel.

Pine is separately in talks to team with director D.J. Caruso in the Paramount drama “The Art of Making Money,” early next year.

Talks have just started, but Pine is expected to come aboard the Jack Ryan film as the project is still taking shape. The studio and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini, based on an original concept.

They are still in deep development and it is unclear whether Pine would make another “Star Trek” before the Jack Ryan film. He will clearly be working often for Paramount over the next several years.

Pine, currently starring with Denzel Washington in the Tony Scott-directed “Unstoppable” for Fox, is vying to be the fourth actor to play Ryan, the CIA analyst in the Par film series.

Do you think Chris Pine would make a good Jack Ryan? Do you want to see that character on the big screen again?

The A-Team’s Murdoch – Could it be Sharlto Copley?

Posted by LiveFor on September 10, 2009

copleyThrough a reliable source, has learned exclusively that an offer has been made to rising star ‘District 9’ Star Sharlto Copley for the role.

There is no confirmation that Copley has accepted as of yet.

Many names were being tossed for the role including the likes of Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi, Timothy Olyphant, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Chris Pine and Robert Downey Jr. Although we all know a whole heap of them won’t be taking the role.

Already cast in the film are Liam Neeson as Col. John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as Sgt. Bosco ‘B.A.’ Baracus and Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck.

‘The A-Team’ revolves around the four members of a former commando outfit and current group of mercenaries. Their leader is Col. John “Hannibal” Smith, whose plans tend to be unorthodox but effective. Lt. Templeton “The Faceman” (usually referred to simply as “Face”) Peck is a smooth-talking con-man who serves as the team’s appropriator of vehicles and other useful items. The team’s pilot is Capt. H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock, who has been declared insane and resides in a mental institution for the show’s first four seasons. Finally, there is the team’s strong man and mechanic, Sgt. B.A. “Bad Attitude” Baracus.

Set for release next year, the film, which is being directed by Joe Carnahan has already begun shooting in Vancouver, Canada.

Director Carnahan and Tony and Ridley Scott say they will use the original premise of the series as the template for an action film. In the original, four Vietnam vets convicted of armed robbery escape from military prison and became do-gooder mercenaries.

The Middle East will replace Vietnam as the place the four did their tour of duty, but Carnahan said the origin story is the jumping-off point.

The original series, which ran from 1983-87 and starred George Peppard, Mr. T, Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz, followed an unofficial team of Vietnam vets who will stop at nothing to get the bad guys. Sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit, these four commandos escaped from a maximum-security stockade and now survive in the Los Angeles underground as soldiers of fortune.

Having just watched District 9 last night I can totally see Copley playing Murdoch. In D-9 he goes from office nerd to fugitive to bad ass and I thought he was brilliant. The whole film was superb so go and see it if you haven’t.

Who do you think would make a good Murdoch?

UPDATED: The A-Team have their B A Baracus

Posted by LiveFor on September 7, 2009

rampageThe A-Team film is slowly coming together.

Joe Carnahan is directing. Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) is down as Templeton “Face” Peck, Liam Neeson is Hannibal and now fools everywhere will have someone to pity them.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship world light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is in Vancouver to star as BA Baracus. Yep Mr T has been replaced.

Jackson has been removed from the UFC 107 card where he was set to face Sugar Rashad Evans in an Ultimate Fighter finale showdown, so he can appear in the film. He was spotted on Robson Street Friday afternoon, signing autographs for fans.

The Vancouver Sun has learned Rampage was in Vancouver on 19th August to discuss the role with producers and arrived in town recently to prepare for filming for the next six weeks.

Do you think Rampage is a good choice to play Bad Attitude Baracus? Does anyone know if he can act?

All that is left is someone to play Murdoch. Chris Pine (Star Trek, Carriers) has said he would love to play the role. If not him who else could play Howling Mad Murdoch?

What A-Team clichés do you want to see in the big screen version?

Thanks to Andrew for pointing out this snippet of Rampage’s acting in the trailer for Never Surrender.

Carriers – New poster for the deadly plague film

Posted by LiveFor on August 16, 2009

Not sure if this film will be any good or be different from others of its type, but I do like the imagery used in the poster.

Four kids are driving through the desert on the way to the beach, their faces anything but cheery: this isnt Spring Break. Theyre trying to outrun the end of the world and each other. In Álex and David Pastors Carriers, no one is safe from the viral pandemic threatening to wipe out the human race. Determined to elude the deadly virus, Danny (LOU TAYLOR PUCCI), his brother Brian (CHRIS PINE), his girlfriend Bobby (PIPER PERABO) and Dannys school friend Kate (EMILY VANCAMP) speed across the Southwestern U.S. to reach a place of possible safety. Over the course of four days, the group is faced with moral decisions that no human should ever be forced to face. They discover that their greatest enemy is not the microbe attacking humanity, but the darkness within themselves.

Green Lantern – Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds or Justin Timberlake? Who will play Superman though?

Posted by LiveFor on July 10, 2009

The Guardians of the Universe and Warner Bros. are getting closer to a decision as to who will wield the most powerful weapon in the Universe.

That’s right Green Lantern may soon be cast

THR have the news that along with director Martin Campbell and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti, Warners has spent the past five months searching for the actor to play Hal Jordan, the hot-shot Air Force pilot who is chosen by a dying alien to be his successor in an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lanterns.

There have been numerous rumours as to who would play Hal – Anton Yelchin, Sam Worthington, Chris Pine, Nathan Fillion (my favourite choice), Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill, Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto.

However, they have now picked three definite maybes and only Bradley Cooper is from the above list. The other two are Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake. The holding deal the studio had on the actors expired Monday, meaning the three are now free to accept other offers.

I am a bit surprised about this threesome as none of them really fit the Hal Jordan I picture. Out of the three Ryan Reynolds is about the closest, but I would much rather see him as Deadpool (I hope that Green Lantern doesn’t impact on that).

Bradley Cooper can act, but I just don’t see him as Hal.

Justin Timberlake….I just don’t know. Stunt casting like that can often harm a big film and I definitely cannot see him as Hal.

Apparently, De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the three finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.

Another issue impacting the casting process is the rising budget. “Lantern” is a full-blown space epic that is expected to cost between $150 million and $200 million, if not more. Warners would like to have the production costs at a reasonable level before proceeding.

The studio has scheduled the movie for a December 2010 opening.

I am assuming that one of these three will be Hal Jordan. Sadly the excitement I had for the film has gone down a notch or two.

On a slightly different tangent, there is the slight possibility that Superman, or more likely Clark Kent, may cameo in the Green Lantern film. MTV spoke to scriptwriter Marc Guggenheim.

“Honestly, it changes on a daily basis. Whatever information I gave you today would be obsolete in a week, and maybe come back again in two weeks,” said Guggenheim. ” And even if it wasn’t in flux at the script stage, it would still be constantly in flux because you can film it, put it in the original cut, and eventually it could end up on the editing room floor.”

However, he didn’t deny that the Superman’s alter ego would be making an appearance.

What do you think about one of those three playing Jordan?

Which of the three should play Green Lantern?(polls)
