Been sent details of a cool competition regarding this film.

Just For The Record, is being released on the 7th May 2010. Starring Rik Mayall, Stephen Berkoff and Danny Dyer, the film is a broad comedy that takes a wry and satirical look at the low-budget film industry.

Competition: Win Richard Kelly’s The Box

Posted by LiveFor on April 11, 2010

Richard Kelly is the guy behind the brilliant Donnie Darko and the not well received Southland Tales.

On th 19th April his new film The Box is released on DVD in the UK. To mark the occasion I have got 3 copies of the film to give away.

Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world; someone they don’t know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity.

The competition is open for anyone anywhere in the world. Mind you you will need a player that can play a Region 2 DVD.

Who wrote the short story that The Box is based on?

Email me the answer with “The Box” as the subject. Include your name and address as that will make it quicker to send out the prize if you win.

Competition ends at midnight GMT on 18th April 2010.

Thanks to the good people at Romley Davies for sorting this out.

From Charlie Kaufman, the Oscar winning creator of Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, comes the smash-hit comedy of the year.

Synecdoche, New York tells the incredible story of one man’s seemingly insane mission to create a miniature version of New York – all under the roof of an enormous rented warehouse. With an all-star cast including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Michelle Williams, Samantha Morton and Diane Wiest, Synecdoche, New York is a mind-blowing example of cinema at its very best.

The result is a hilarious and at times surreal tale following a group of wildly different people on their chaotic and crazy adventure to find real happiness.

Synecdoche, New York is a truly dazzling performance from an all-star cast including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Michelle Williams, Samantha Morton and Diane Wiest.

Colin Firth Competition – Win Genova DVD

Posted by LiveFor on September 6, 2009

genova-Stills_228_1024_72_largeColin Firth loves a good costume drama. From Pride and Prejudice to the new take on Dorian Gray (check out the trailer for that here) the Firthster is there with the frilly shirt and the smouldering look.

However, he has been known to star in films set in the modern day and Michael Winterbottom’s Genova is one of them.

The good people of Way to Blue have provided me with 4 copies of the DVD – Certificate 15, Region 2, PAL. Open to anyone in the World. To be in with a chance to win one all you have to do is send me the answer to the following question:

Name four Colin Firth films that are not costume dramas

So any films set in the modern day apart from Genova and no sequels allowed!

Email me the answer with the subject “GENOVA COMP” and include your name and address – Closing date is Sunday 13th September. The four winners will be chosen at random. My decision is final.

Good luck.

A haunting, eerie journey to a place where souls stir and hearts go to mend themselves, Genova is the dark, brooding voyage of discovery for one family, torn apart by tragedy.

With its sun drenched vistas and shadow-cloaked alleyways, and Italian town of Genova provides a fresh start for Joe and his two young daughters. Seeking new lives after the sudden death of their mother they’re all looking for something. As Joe throws himself into study and possible new relationships, the teenage Kelly loses herself in the underbelly of this mysterious new world.

But it’s youngest daughter Mary who is affected by this mystifying and alluring paradise. And then she sees the ghost of her mother wandering the streets…

With echoes of Nicholas Roeg’s seminal Don’t Look Now, this acclaimed, stunning new film from the multi-award winning Michael Winterbottom (A Mighty Heart) stars Colin Firth (Mama Mia), Catherine Keener (Being John Malkovich), Hope Davis (Synecdoche, New York), Willa Holland (The O.C.) and Perla Haney-Jardine (Kill Bill Vol. 2)

Competition – Star Wreck DVDs

Posted by LiveFor on August 2, 2009

fleetStar Wreck is a feature-length sci-fi parody, seven years in the making. It is the product of a core group of five Finns, and over 300 extras, assistants and supporters.

Star Wreck begins with Captain James B. Pirk of the starship Kickstart shipwrecked on the 21st century Earth with his crew. Originally from the distant future, Pirk and his crew travelled back in time to save the Earth from hostile aliens, but lost their ship and became stranded. Pirk’s daily routine consists mainly of stuffing his face at the local fast food restaurant, and he is finding it difficult to convince the ladies he is, in fact, an intergalactic space hero from the future.

As the prospects for humanity’s conquest of space look increasingly bleaker, Pirk comes up with a questionable plan to save mankind’s future…

As I have had to get Live for Films back up and running I thought I would throw a little competition.

Thanks to the good people from Way to Blue I have 3 copies of the DVD – PAL Region 2 – up for grabs.

To be in with a chance to win one I want you to come up with a spoof name for any movie released in 2009 (Star Trek = Star Wreck). The three that make me laugh the most win.

The competition is open to everyone, anywhere in the World. However, it’s rated 15 so you have to be that age or more to enter and make sure you can play Region 2 DVDs. My decision is final.

Email me your spoof film names with the subject – STAR WRECK Competition.

Closing date is 16th August 2009 12:00pm GMT. Good luck.
