Bruce Campbell – What will he be fighting next?

Posted by LiveFor on January 19, 2010

Bruce Campbell – the Chin, the legend, the Ultimate Movie Star. Like Billy Zane, no matter how bad the film, they still ooze cool from every pore…that image sounds quite bad when written down.

You may remember that a couple of years ago Bruce appeared as himself, or a caricature of himself in My Name is Bruce. That’s the one where he gets mistaken for Ash (Evil Dead) and is asked to fight a Chinese Mummy type thing. It wasn’t that great a film – a nice little B movie – but Bruce, as usual, made the whole thing fun to watch (plus some nice cameos from some of the Army of Darkness people).

Now the man himself has announced to AICN that there is to be a sequel – Bruce vs Frankenstein. Let’s hear it from the man himself.

Hello everyone. Bruce Campbell here. This urgent message is short, because my keystrokes are monitored and I fear for my life. My partner at Dark Horse comics, Mike Richardson (normally a very rational and talented man), threatened to have his foot soldiers “crush my spleen” if I did what I am about to do. But the fans deserve to know, so with great trepidation I officially announce Bruce Vs. Frankenstein, the sequel to My Name is Bruce. Principal photography begins this fall in Oregon. I’d like to live long enough to see the cameras roll, so please, for the love of God, do not tell anyone – I can’t risk this announcement getting back to Mike! Thank you.

There you have it. He’s going up against Frankenstein (I assume it will be the Monster and not the scientist) and is bound to have a few laughs in it. Not sure if he will be directing it as he did the original. Of course it would have been nice to see him go up against a vampire in Bubba Nosferatu, but he stepped out of that a while ago and now Ron Perlman (Hellboy) is going to be wearing the white jumpsuit as Elvis.

I’m still waiting for Bruce to comment on the whole Spider-Man reboot thing.
What did you think of My Name is Bruce? Are you a fan of Bruce Campbell? Do you want to see the sequel? What films currently in production would you love to see Bruce star in?

Bruce Campbell talks Spider-Man 4

Posted by LiveFor on September 14, 2009

bruce-campbell-2Spider-Man 4 will start shooting in January 2010, Bruce Campbell told Access Hollywood at his Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs premiere on Saturday.

The actor, who has a long relationship with director Sam Raimi via his lead role in the “Evil Dead” trilogy, made memorable cameos in the first three “Spider-Man” films. He gave Spidey his name in the first one, denied him access to the theatre as a snooty usher in the second and helped him propose unsuccesfully in the third.

However, he may have a bigger role this time around. Bruce told Access that in the next installment in the superhero franchise, he’s been told he has a major part – but didn’t yet know anything about his character.

The villain – or villains — for the movie have yet to be revealed, though some fans have speculated that Bruce could take on the role of Mysterio – the master of illusion.

The film, the follow-up to 2007’s Spider-Man 3, is due in May 2011.

I don’t think Bruce will be playing a major villain in the film, although that would be great. He will probably play another human who helps or hinders Peter Parker at some point in the film.

However, if he were to play a villain, which one would you like to see the Chin have a crack at? He would be brilliant as the devilish Mephisto and a few years back he would have been an excellent Kraven.

Drag Me To Hell – Poster for Sam Raimi’s latest horror film

Posted by LiveFor on March 31, 2009

Here is the new poster for Sam Raimi’s latest horror film, Drag Me To Hell. Fingers crossed he’s got his Evil Dead mojo working. I quite like the poster although it does seem quite Photoshoppy.

The story follows Christine Brown (Alison Lohman), an ambitious L.A. loan officer with a charming boyfriend, professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long). Life is good until the mysterious Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) arrives at the bank to beg for an extension on her home loan. Should Christine follow her instincts and give the old woman a break? Or should she deny the extension to impress her boss, Mr. Jacks (David Paymer), and get a leg-up on a promotion?

Christine fatefully chooses the latter, shaming Mrs. Ganush and dispossessing her of her home. In retaliation, the old woman places the powerful curse of the Lamia on Christine, transforming her life into a living hell. Haunted by an evil spirit and misunderstood by a skeptical boyfriend, she seeks the aid of seer Rham Jas (Dileep Rao) to save her soul from eternal damnation. To help the shattered Christine return her life to normal, the psychic sets her on a frantic course to reverse the spell. As evil forces close in, Christine must face the unthinkable: how far will she go to break free of the curse?

Drag Me To Hell is due out on 29th May 2009.

Sam Raimi talks about Evil Dead 4

Posted by LiveFor on March 16, 2009

IGN caught up with Raimi down at SXSW, where he was showing an early cut of Drag Me to Hell, and asked him about updates on the franchise, including a remake and a sequel. He doesn’t promise anything too soon, but does give us some hope, especially on the side of the remake more than anything.

“I have talked with my partners about having a young director come in and remake Evil Dead,” Raimi revealed to IGN. “That film was made in 16mm on a
shoestring budget and blown up to 35mm. The
visual effects are crumby, it was done in mono, not even stereo, let alone 5.1. What you could do with it now would be so much better. I think if you had a new director using the full power of 35mm and 5.1 sound, you could really make a pretty socko presentation. It was always meant for the big screen, but never really seen on the big screen.”

Is Evil Dead 4 dead by dawn?

Posted by LiveFor on October 15, 2008

Filmstalker have the news:

The other day Bruce Campbell came out and spoke about the possibility, and was quite harsh about it. He’s said pretty much the same thing before, but not with as much power.

“Look, let’s cut to the chase because you keep dancing around it, if you’re talking about Ash coming back again, Sam Raimi has the best perspective. He says, ‘Look, I can go back and do Ash vs. whoever whenever I want. I can do that when I’m 70; I don’t have to do that now. Right now I’m on a fast, fat groovy train in Hollywood.’ And he’s going to follow that, and he’ll come back and to EVIL DEAD stuff when he’s unemployed and living at the Old Director’s Home”

That quote came from Toyfare through AITH and doesn’t sound like there’s a chance of it happening soon, if at all to be honest.

Then today we hear another point of view on the team, from the producer Rob Tapert. He’s more interested in the musical version again, a 3D musical version no doubt, although he does reveal that Sam Raimi is still talking of a fourth film:

“There’s a guy [producer Don Carmody] who wants to make a musical out of it, a 3-D musical based on the one [Evil Dead: The Musical] that ran off-Broadway…And I still think that that’s the one I’d like to see greatly. Sam promises he’s going to do Evil Dead IV, with Bruce Campbell starring in it [as Ash], at some point in time. I just hope Bruce is still alive.”

Those comments through SciFi Wire.

It doesn’t look good for Ash and a musical Evil Dead sounds pretty poor. What do you think of the news?
