The Ghost Writer – Trailer for Roman Polanski’s new film

Posted by LiveFor on January 14, 2010

When a successful British ghostwriter, THE GHOST (Ewan McGregor), agrees to complete the memoirs of former British Prime Minister ADAM LANG (Pierce Brosnan), his agent assures him it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. But the project seems doomed from the start-not least because his predecessor on the project, Lang’s long-term aide, died in an unfortunate accident.

The Ghost flies out to work on the project, in the middle of winter, to an oceanfront house on an island off the U.S. Eastern seaboard. But the day after he arrives, a former British cabinet minister accuses Lang of authorizing the illegal seizure of suspected terrorists and handing them over for torture by the CIA-a war crime. The controversy brings reporters and protesters swarming to the island mansion where Lang is staying with his wife, RUTH, and his personal assistant (and mistress), AMELIA. As The Ghost works, he begins to uncover clues suggesting his predecessor may have stumbled on a dark secret linking Lang to the CIA-and that somehow this information is hidden in the manuscript he left behind. Was Lang in the service of the American intelligence agency while he was prime minister? And was The Ghost’s predecessor murdered because of the appalling truth he uncovered?

Resonating with topical themes, this atmospheric and suspenseful political thriller is a story of deceit and betrayal on every level- sexual, political and literary. In a world in which nothing, and no one, is as it seems, The Ghost quickly discovers that the past can be deadly-and that history is decided by whoever stays alive to write it.

The film stars Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall, Olivia Williams, and Tom Wilkinson.

Knockout – Tatum and Banderas joining Soderbergh’s action film

Posted by LiveFor on January 11, 2010

A few days ago news surfaced that Michael Douglas, Dennis Quaid, Ewan McGregor and Michael Fassbender (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Hunger”) had all joined the cast of Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller, Knockout. That’s the one that stars Mixed Martial Arts champion Gina Carano in the lead.

Now The Playlist have some more casting news. Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe, Public Enemies, Fighting, Step Up) has joined the as one of the elite specialists on Carano’s team named Aaron — a military gearhead-type who’s sent to try and bring her back in once she’s been double-crossed and gone rogue; trying to figure out who exactly is setting her up. However, this will supposedly be just a small role.
Antonio Banderas (Desperado) is also in talks to join the cast playing the head of a Black-ops European unit.

It also turns out that Dennis Quaid will play Carano’s father.

Long time Soderberg collaborator, David Holmes will be writing the score for the film.

Soderbergh is currently location scouting and will now be primarily shot in Barcelona, Dublin and New Mexico. The picture is set to start shooting in February and Lionsgate hopes to have the film in theaters for August.
This sounds like it could be an excellent action film, full of intrigue, double crossing and lots of fighting. Plus Soderbergh should bring something quite different to the look of an action film.

Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Knockout – Casting news for Soderbergh’s female spy film

Posted by LiveFor on January 8, 2010

Back in September last year Steven Soderbergh said he would next direct Knockout, a spy thriller marking the screen starring debut of Gina Carano, the mixed martial arts circuit fighter

Now news is out from various sources of who else will be starring in the film and there are some mightly big names there.

Michael Fassbender (Fish Tank, Inglourious Basterds, Hunger) is down to play an MI6 operative that meets up with the lead character. In addition Ewan McGregor, Dennis Quaid and Michael Douglas are also joining up.

The plot has also changed a little and is now a revenge story where Mallory Kane (Carano), now from a solid background and was raised around military honor and academia, is now a black ops soldier. She is double crossed by someone on her own team and must uncover who set her up to take the fall for a job gone wrong, leaving blood on her hands.

The new cast members surrounding Carano will all be a part of her special forces team. Douglas will play a government figure. Fassbender and another unnamed actor play members of her commando spy unit and McGregor will be playing a man who runs a Blackwater-type private military company that Carano’s character is employed with. No word on what character Dennis Quaid will be playing.

Written by Lem Dobbs. The movie is scheduled to go before cameras in February in several locations around the world.

Shaping up to be a great cast and possibly a great movie. All depends on how well Carano can act.

Jackboots on Whitehall – Poster for the stop motion invasion of England

Posted by LiveFor on November 30, 2009

From the McHenry Brothers come a satirical version of World War II in which the Scottish defeat the German invasion of England. Chris (Ewan McGregor) dreams of the chance to join the army and fight in exciting new lands rather than be stuck in the slow paced village life he has grown up in. His chance comes when the three top Nazis hatch a plan to invade England by drilling under the English Channel and into the heart of London. With the entire British army stuck in Dunkirk and no military support to defend the country, Churchill issues a final radio broadcast from his bunker in Downing Street – a cry for help. But can the nation unite in time to make one last stand against Nazi forces? JACKBOOTS ON WHITEHALL boasts pioneering techniques in animation and the voices of a stellar cast including Ewan McGregor, Tom Wilkinson, Rosamund Pike, and Alan Cumming.

The Electric Slide – Dreadful poster for Ewan McGregor bank robber film

Posted by LiveFor on November 23, 2009

Based on the article “The Yankee Bandit: The Life and Times of Eddie Dodson, World’s Greatest Bank Robber”, written by Timothy Ford and published by GEAR Magazine, The Electric Slide tells the true story of suave hipster and celebrity-magnet Eddie Dodson (Ewan McGregor), who in 1980s Los Angeles owned and ran one of the city’s most stylish art deco furniture stores. Celebrities flocked to buy the latest pieces and Eddie was living the high life along with the Hollywood elite.

But when Eddie met cool and unimpressed Jenny (Carey Mulligan – An Education), he decided to do the most outrageous thing he could think of to win her attention – he robbed a bank. Eddie discovered in himself the uncanny ability to charm pretty bank tellers into emptying their drawers of cash and getting away with it. And Jenny discovered that a boyfriend who robbed banks was about as hot as it got.

Over a period of months, Eddie and Jenny robbed over 70 banks in the Los Angeles area, often narrowly escaping the increasingly frustrated FBI. When the authorities interviewed the tellers who had been robbed, each of the described Eddie “like a movie star, the most charming man they had ever met.” The media, jumping on the story, dubbed him “The Gentleman Bandit.” But Eddie’s criminal lucky streak would not last forever as the FBI closed in and angry loan sharks with unpaid debts threatened his life.

Directed by Tristan Patterson.

Now, the program’s founder, Bill Django (Jeff Bridges), has gone missing and Cassady’s mission is to find him. Intrigued by his new acquaintance’s far-fetched stories, Bob impulsively decides to tag along.
