Rhys Darby is a Love Bird

Posted by LiveFor on April 21, 2010

Rhys Darby is the one from Flight of the Conchords who isn’t in the band. He plays the manager, Murray, and is probably funnier than the band.

If you get the chance watch some of this stand-up. Dave T got me onto it and it is hilarious. Lots of sound effects and not what you expect at all. Check out the jetpack and ejector seat bit and he makes an amazing robot.

Deadline have the news that he is going to be starring in Love Birds. This New Zealand/UK co-production will film in Auckland until mid-May. He plays somebody nursing a wild bird back to health after his girlfriend dumps him. Then he meets a kooky vet, played by Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins (Happy Go Lucky). New Zealand director Paul Murphy is working with screenwriter Nick Ward.

Check out Rhys’ official site and here he is meeting Dr Dre.

Posted by LiveFor on October 1, 2009

The brilliant Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords) does the robot on kids TV show, Yo Gabba Gabba. Remember he is not really a robot, but that head movement is definitely not human!

‘Gentlemen Broncos’ Poster

Posted by LiveFor on August 13, 2009

The new movie from Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre) stars Sam Rockwell (The Green Mile), Michael Angarano (Lords of Dogtown) and, excitingly, Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords). After the disappointment of Nacho Libre this could go either way for Hess. but the Wikipedia premise shows promise:

Gentlemen Broncos tells the story of a homeschooled teenage outcast and aspiring fantasy writer. He attends a fantasy convention to show off his work and finds his idea, Yeast Lords, becomes ripped off by acclaimed novelist Ronald Chevalier, who has turned desperate for ideas.

If you haven’t already seen the awe inspiring viral promotional videos featuring Jemaine Clement as Ronald Chevalier, then check them out now at And if you’re not familiar with Jemaine’s prior work, google “Flight of the Conchords” (or click here). You won’t be disappointed.

“THE FUTURE OF COMEDY” The Guardian Guide

Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim write & star in this surreal comedy which mixes songs, spoof ads & sketches based around characters from a home grown cable TV show (think Wayne’s World meets Flight of the Conchords!).

The show opens with the hosts dancing on their own tongues and gets even crazier after that! Using a combination of real-life acting and green-screen technology the comic duo conjure up an incredulous array of characters including the Anchorman-esque ‘Channel 5 Married News Team’, a dad-obsessed dance instructor, tone-deaf singers whose faces drip with eczema and would-be swingers who gorge on shrimp and wine!

The series is peppered with A-list celeb cameos and guest stars including Oscar-nominated John C. Reilly (Step Brothers, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story), Michael Cera (Superbad, Juno), and comic “Weird Al” Yankovic.

Gentleman Broncos – News on what Napolean Dynamite’s director is up to.

Posted by LiveFor on August 7, 2008

This sounds great. Gentleman Broncos follows the story of a kid who goes to a fantasy novel convention only to find that a well known author has stolen his idea. The author, Ronald Chevalier, is played by Jermaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) and that’s him on the left.

They’ve set up a website for the Ronald Chevalier and it is very funny. He is the author of such gems as The Chronicles of Brutus & Balzaak, Cyborg Harpies and Brain Cream. Brilliant.

Jared Hess (Napolean Dynamite) is writing and directing it. Also stars Sam Rockwell, Halley Feiffer, Michael Angarano and Jennifer Coolidge. Oh and Roger Dertinger as a Cyclops Guard!!

Discuss in the forum.
