Inception – New Escher style poster

Posted by LiveFor on May 7, 2010

Here is another cool poster for Christopher Nolan’s Inception. Can’t wait to see it, but I just hope it doesn’t all end up being a dream of Leonardo DiCaprio.

A new trailer is also due out with Iron Man 2 so let me know if you see it and what it shows.

Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible–inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.

Inception – Finally a full plot synopsis

Posted by LiveFor on May 5, 2010

Christopher Nolan’s new one has been shrouded in secrecy. We knew it had something to do with people going into dreams and stealing ideas (kind of like that old Dennis Quaid film with the snake monster), but now there is an offical synopsis for the film.

Writer: Christopher Nolan

Producers: Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan

Executive Producer: Chris Brigham, Thomas Tull

Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, Michael Caine

Sci-Fi Action. Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in an original sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the intimate and infinite world of dreams. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This movie has been rated PG-13 for sequences of violence and action throughout.

Batman 3 gets a release date

Posted by LiveFor on April 30, 2010

Warner Bros. has set July 20, 2012, as the release date for the third Christopher Nolan-directed Batman movie. Still no title, start date or story though.

The studio has barely begun the process of developing the movie according to Heat Vision; Nolan is in postproduction on “Inception,” but is hammering out a story with David Goyer.

There is no title as this point and no start date.

Let the speculation commence.

Inception – Christopher Nolan talks about the mysterious sci-fi film

Posted by LiveFor on April 6, 2010

Speaking to the LA Times Christopher Nolan has shed some light on the mysterious film, Inception. We have had some intriguing trailers yet not much else is known about it the globe trotting sci-fi adventure.

The follows Leonardo DiCaprio as Dom Cobb: “a specialist in the new branch of corporate espionage — he’s a dream thief who plucks secrets from the minds of tycoons after pumping them full of drugs and hooking them up to a mysterious contraption (pic above).”

This is something Nolan has been working on for a while.

“I wanted to do this for a very long time, it’s something I’ve thought about off and on since I was about 16. I wrote the first draft of this script seven or eight years ago, but it goes back much further, this idea of approaching dream and the dream life as another state of reality.”

“[In a dream] you can look around and examine the details and pick up a handful of sand on the beach. I never particularly found a limit to that; that is to say, that while in that state your brain can fill in all that reality. I tried to work that idea of manipulation and management of a conscious dream being a skill that these people have. Really the script is based on those common, very basic experiences and concepts, and where can those take you? And the only outlandish idea that the film presents, really, is the existence of a technology that allows you to enter and share the same dream as someone else.”

“I originally wrote it as a heist movie, and heist movies traditionally are very deliberately superficial in emotional terms,” Nolan said. “They’re frivolous and glamorous, and there’s a sort of gloss and fun to it. I originally tried to write it that way, but when I came back to it I realized that — to me — that didn’t work for a film that relies so heavily on the idea of the interior state, the idea of dream and memory. I realized I needed to raise the emotional stakes. What we found in working on ‘Batman’ is that it’s the emotionalism that best connects the audience with the material. The character issues, those are the things that pull the audience through it and amplify the experience no matter how strange things get.”

“Think of film noir and if you picture the story as a maze, you don’t want to be hanging above the maze watching the characters make the wrong choices because it’s frustrating. You actually want to be in the maze with them, making the turns at their side, that keeps it more exciting… I quite like to be in that maze.”

All sounds very cool and still very mysterious. Can’t wait to see it.

Christopher Nolan to be Superman’s Godfather and Batman 3 is being written

Posted by LiveFor on February 9, 2010

Christopher Nolan is currently hard at work on his sci-fi film, Inception, which is due out on 16th July. Since The Dark Knight there have been constant stories and rumours about what would be happening in the third film. More on that in a bit as the more interesting news via Deadline Hollywood, is that Nolan has supposedly been asked by Warner Bros to have a look at the Man of Steel and see how Superman could be brought to the big screen.

Now don’t get too excited. They have not asked him to write or direct a new Superman film. Instead they want Nolan to use what he learnt to make Batman so successful and apply it to Krypton’s favourite son.

Basically, he is going to be a mentor or godfather to any future Superman film which should mean it will be a hell of a lot better than Bryan Singer’s Superman returns (I still wish they would go with Mark Millar’s proposed Superman trilogy, but what do I know) and I think Warner Bros have done the right thing with this. The one worry is that they will make Superman all dark and moody, but Nolan took the core elements of what makes Batman work and used them to great effect so I fully expect him to do the same with Superman. I would love him to sit down for a chat with Grant Morrison as his All Star Superman was one of the best Superman comics in recent years.

Of course one of the main reasons for a new Superman film to be developed is to do with rights. According to Deadline, Attorney Marc Toberoff warns that, in 2013, the Jerome Siegel heirs along with the estate of co-creator Joe Shuster will own the entire original copyright to Superman — “and neither DC Comics nor Warner Bros will be able to exploit any new Superman works without a license from the Siegels and Shusters”. He’s also pointed out that, if Warner Bros does not start production on a new Superman sequel or reboot by 2011, the Siegels could sue to recover their damages on the grounds that the deal should have contained a clause in which the rights returned to the owners after a given time if no film was in development. The heirs of Siegel have already been awarded half the copyright for Superman. And in 2013 the heirs of co-creator Joe Shuster get the remaining half. After that, neither DC Comics nor Warner Bros will be able to use Superman without a financial agreement with the heirs.

if they don’t get a new Superman film sorted out super quick then they run the risk of having to pay out an awful lot of money.

As Nolan will have a hand in a new Superman film that could also pave the way for the big screen meet up of Batman and Superman. Wishful thinking, but it could happen.

What about Batman 3? Is that heading our way anytime soon? Turns out that Christopher Nolan came up with a story idea and Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer have begun work on a Batman 3 script.

Let the rumours of who and what will be in the next Batman film begin.

As for Nolan steering the direction of a Superman film do you think this is a good idea? Who would you like to direct it and what do you want to see in a new Superman film?

Check out some cool Superman T-Shirts over on Tees For All. The amazing picture at the top of the post is by the incredible Brian Bolland. I love his stuff.

Inception – First photo from Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi film

Posted by LiveFor on January 18, 2010

Inception is a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind. Nolan wrote the original screenplay for Warner Bros.

“I think we’ve put a lot of different things into the pot with this one,” Nolan said last week during a break from editing. “I grew up watching James Bond films and loving those and watching spy movies with their globe-trotting sensibility. We get to do that here not just geographically but also in time and dimensions of reality as well. We get to make a movie that’s expansive, I suppose you’d say, in four dimensions.”

The key part of the premise is corporate espionage by way of dream invasion, but motives and even reality are slippery in a film that toys with perception as its travels through time and space. The crew covered a lot of territory too, filming in six countries. “This is the biggest challenge I’ve taken on to this point,” Nolan says. “We’re trying to tell a story on a massive scale, a true blockbuster scale — the biggest I’ve ever been involved with. We tried to make a very large scale film with ‘The Dark Knight,’ and with this one we wanted to push that even further.”

It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ken Watanabe, Tom Hardy and Michael Caine.

Due out on 16th July
