Fantastic Voyage remake gets Paul Greengrass to direct

Posted by LiveFor on April 1, 2010

Paul Greengrass (Green Zone, Bourne) is going to be at the helm of the Fantastic Voyage.

According to Heat Vision he is in talks to remake the 1966 sci-fi film which is going to be produced by James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment. That will mean it is going to be 3D, which may be a good thing considering the type of tale.

The original film revolved around a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent on a miniature submarine to save the life of a defecting Soviet scientist. The story then followed the biological adventures the team encounters in trying to save the scientist and themselves.

I am a fan of the original (mmmm Raquel Welch), but I think a remake will be worth watching. With todays technology it should look brilliant. I just hope that there is not too much shaky cam which Greengrass seems to enjoy.

I wonder if they will mix a bit of Inner Space in it by having an opposing sub sent in to stop the good guys?

Who do you want to see in the film and do you think Greengrass is a good choice to direct?

Cool Minimalist Posters – Innerspace, Ghostbusters, The Fly, Back to the Future, Network, 2001 and More

I love alternative movie posters especially those done in a minimalist style. These are some more stunning examples of the craft. All are done by Brandon Schaefer and he has lots more over on Seek and Speak. Which one is your favourite and which is the cleverest?

James Cameron to produce sci-fi remake of Fantastic Voyage…Inner Space 2?

Posted by LiveFor on December 11, 2009

MTV News spoke with Cameron and producer Jon Landau on the red carpet at the London premiere of “Avatar,” where they spoke of their to remake sci-fi classic “Fantastic Voyage,” in 3-D, with Cameron taking on the role of producer.

In the original, a small team attempts to save the life of a nearly-assassinated diplomat through a uniquely invasive surgical procedure. The magic of science allows the doctors to be shrunken down to microscopic size and injected into the ailing diplomat’s body. Piloting a specialized submersible craft — also tiny — the team attempts to repair with the diplomat’s condition — a blood clot in his brain — on a cellular level.

The original hit theaters in 1966, long before digital effects were a factor in Hollywood filmmaking. It is a great sci-fi movie with Raquel Welch being all Raquel Welch in it.

The plot has been used countless times in TV shows such as Futurama, The Mighty Boosh and more. Plus there was the Dennis Quaid Martin Short team up in Inner Space.

Quite exciting news that Cameron is getting behind the remake and with todays technology with the 3D lovelieness then it should be one to watch.
