War of the Gods becomes Immortal – John Hurt and Isabel Lucas join the cast

Posted by LiveFor on April 7, 2010

Clash of the Titans has done rather well at the box office. Despite poor reviews and a bad 3D conversion it topped the charts and made $61.4 million in its opening weekend. I have yet to see it. Therefore, sword and sandal films have got a bit of a kick start.

Tarsem Singh (The Fall) has been casting War of the Gods, which is now going to be called Immortals. Latest casting news, via JoBlo, is that John Hurt and Isabel Lucas are on the team. Hurt is always great and Lucas was the human Decepticon in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

They join Mickey Rourke, Frida Pinto, Stephen Dorff, Kellan Lutz, Henry Cavill, Robert Maillet, Corey Sevier, Alan Van Sprang, Mercedes Leggett, Steve Byers, Romano Ozari and Neil Napier.

The story follows a purported bastard who retains an allegiance to his mother despite the fact that he longs to join the quest of a king who is battling demons in ancient Greece later embarks on a grail of discovery that has him finding he is the king’s son and also fated to become his country’s greatest hero as he leads the successful war against long-imprisoned Titans who are hoping to use the demons to restore their power.

Due for release on 11th November 2011.

Red Dawn remake will be like a live action Call of Duty?

Posted by LiveFor on December 9, 2009

MGM Chairman Mary Parent spoke to Risky Business about the forthcoming remake of Red Dawn. This time it is China instead of Russia invading.

She mentioned the footage she had seen of MGM’s remake (due in theaters next November), currently shooting in Detroit. She said that first-time director Dan Bradley, who orchestrated all the stunt work in the “Bourne” and “Spider-Man” movies, “has really outdone himself.” The remake stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Star Trek), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, Supernatural, The Losers), Isabel Lucas, Josh Peck, Connor Cruise and Adrianne Palicki. Go Wolverines!

She summed up by saying the movie plays like “a live-action ‘Call of Duty,’” which means it should at least look cool.

The trailer below is fan made.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be bigger and longer on IMAX

Posted by LiveFor on June 8, 2009

Director Michael Bay made an announcement about his upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, including details surrounding finishing the film, the scale of the project, and what the IMAX version will offer. Here is what he had to say:

Hey everyone,

In Japan today. After a month and half seven days a week most days going till midnight me and my crew have just about finished Transformers. I have never seen such a level of dedication from every crew member in a movie before.

Even today after the press in Japan and right before the premiere tonight, I have to sneak out to a digital house to approve the last few effect shots.

It has been a long hard road, but really fun one to travel. What you will notice that is strikingly different than Transformers 1, is the level of animation detail. The robot characters (42 in all), you really can feel empathy for them. What is also very different is the sheer scale of the movie. We have been very tight holding back much of the best imagery in commercials and trailers.

The way to see this movie is on IMAX. Never before has there been 4k rendered character animation shot on full IMAX 70 mm film. This is a first and the results are stunning. You will see Optimus Prime in a few shots where he is actually perfectly to scale on the IMAX 50 foot tall screens.

For IMAX, I created a slightly longer cut with more robot fighting. Four scenes were shot on IMAX cameras so the screen will fill the full IMAX screen for these scenes.

Haters beware.

Starring Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Isabel Lucas, Rainn Wilson, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opens in theaters on 24th June.

UPDATED: Hugo Weaving is back in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen…Agent Smith…I mean, Megatron can’t be far behind

Posted by LiveFor on March 5, 2009

Hugo Weaving has proven that one more piece of the news that Michael Bay has “confirmed” about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is false – namely that Megatron wouldn’t be appearing in the film. Weaving, who was promoting his film Last Ride, told the Australian site AdelaideNow that he would, indeed, be in the sequel film.

“I’ve already done it,” Weaving says, adding Bay had told him to keep the news hush-hush. “He’s over in LA and we were working on the video split sort of thing and I had this strange conversation where he seemed to imply it was all a big secret. So there you go. I’ve given you the secret scoop.”

Weaving was not, however, willing to reveal the secret as to how the Decepticon leader would be resurrected, but he did give a hint. “I think in the last one, doesn’t Optimus Prime pick up a little bit of, a little shard of the cube, or the thing that’s left, and he takes it with him. Maybe there’s something there… but I don’t know,” the actor laughed.

In Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots return for the live action follow up to Michael Bay’s 2007 blockbuster Transformers, nationwide on June 24. Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Isabel Lucas, Rainn Wilson star.

UPDATE: (3/5/08 1:45 PM PST) Director Michael Bay has also confirmed the return of Megatron on his official website. Take a look at the brief post from the director, posted earlier today, below.

Okay cat is out of the bag. Megatron is back —- but you will only get to see him from the long lost past. We go way back in time as this movie explains the mythology of the Primes. He is not a tank like everyone suggests, but an alien vehicle. But sadly he does not has much screen time.

UPDATE 06/03/09: However, looks like Bay may be being economical with the truth again. /film found the description on the packaging for Megatron’s Leader Class action figure contains the following description:

Rebuilt with parts cannibalized from other Decepticons, Megatron rises once again to lead his army. Though the AllSpark destroyed him once, he can now feel its power coursing through his circuitry. It calls him to seize his rightful place as ruler over the puny planet on which he was imprisoned and destroyed, and from which he will launch his conquest of the universe. Optimus Prime is all that stands between him and victory, and the Autobot leader has done a poor job of hiding himself. At long last, Megatron knows exactly where his enemy is, and he has power enough to destroy him.

Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen – It may feature human looking robots with long tongues?!

Posted by LiveFor on January 8, 2009

I saw mention of this over at io9. Apparantly Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen will have a new kind of Transformer – one along the lines of Terminator and the Cylons. That’s right True Believer, this one looks human.

It looks like the character of Alice (Isabel Lucas– Home and Away), a girl who Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) meets in college, is actually something called a Pretender (which is a Transformer who hides inside a human shell).

In the case of Alice, the shell will be an attractive human woman while the inner robot is best described as a hybrid of the Frenzy robot design from the first movie. The Pretender Transformer will have an arm that transforms into an energy weapon, a long tongue, and a scanning tentacle.

Then there is this PhillyFilmGirl set video from the Princeton filming that may go some way to confirming this. Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Ramon Rodriguez run away, and then Isabel stalks towards them. There’s a crowd of screaming students who run past Isabel — so they’re not running from her, but from something else, something which doesn’t scare her.

Just looking at the cast list over on IMDB I see there is a character to be played by America Olivo (Bitch Slap) simply called Frisbee Girl. That just struck me as funny and probably does exactly what the name says.
