Sleeping Beauty – Emily Browning to play a sleeping sex toy

Posted by LiveFor on February 10, 2010

Everyone loves Sleeping Beauty. The classic tale of a beautiful princess cursed to sleep for a 100 years or more until the kiss of her true love wakes her. This Sleeping Beauty is nothing like that.

The Playlist have the news. Written and directed by Julia Leigh it is “a haunting erotic fairy tale about a student who drifts into prostitution and finds her niche as a woman who sleeps, drugged, in a ‘Sleeping Beauty chamber’ while men do to her what she can‘t remember the next morning.” She basically becomes a living, breathing sex doll.

Definitely not the fairy tale or Disney version. Mind you original fairy tales are dark and twisted tales. I also wonder whether Disney may have something to say about the name. I don’t think they have rights to the name as it is an old story, but stranger things have happened and in the murky movie world.

Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Jane Eyre) was originally attached to play the Beauty, but she has dropped out and has been replaced by Emily Browning (Lemony Snicket, The Uninvited) who also stepped in for Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch when Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!, Chloe, Dear John) had to drop out.

It begins filming in Australia next month with a $10 million budget. I wonder what male actors will be joining the cast?

The Random – Ghostbusters 3, Daredevil reboot, 24 film, Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion, Terminator rights sold, Hanna, 127 Hours, Jane Eyre, The Fields, Thomas Crown Affair 2

Posted by LiveFor on February 9, 2010

– Bill Murray has sort of confirmed the rumour started by Sigourney Weaver a while back, “I’ll come back in Ghostbusters III only if I get to be a ghost,” said Murray in a new interview “I said to them, ‘I’ll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.’ So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film.” I just think he is taking the piss.

– Marvel’s Daredevil will get another chance on the big screen as David Scarpa, the man who wrote the recent remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still is writing a new DD script….doesn’t fill me with much hope that the character will get the treatment he deserves. The main reason for the reboot is that Fox’s rights to the character would revert back to Marvel if they didn’t make it.Will Jason Statham be Matt Murdock?

– Jack Bauer may be heading to the big screen for a 24 film. Still early days, but Kiefer Sutherland is up for it and Billy Ray (Shattered Glass, Breach) has pitched the studios about it. Would be set in Europe, but I have to say what’s the point of taking a series that is set over a day and condensing it into a 2 hour action film?

– Steven Soderbergh has another film in the works called Contagion. According to The Playlist, Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard and Jude Law have all started negotiations to star in the film, which is written by The Informant! screenwriter Scott Z Burns. It’ll follow multiple plotlines across four continents as a virus begins to spread, and terrifying events follow.

– Sony Pictures and Lionsgate bid on the rights for the Terminator franchise. However, according to Deadline, Halcyon Holding Corp accepted the $29.5 million bid from the debtholder which pushed it into bankruptcy, Santa Barbara-based hedge fund Pacificor. (This is the same Pacificor whom Halcyon accused in a lawsuit of extortion, bribery, and fraud and demanded $30M in damages.)

– Cate Blanchett will join Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana in Hanna. The Joe Wright-directed Focus Features drama that casts Ronan as a 14-year old assassin.

– Amber Tamblyn will play the female lead opposite James Franco in 127 Hours. The Danny Boyle film about Aron Ralston, the mountain climber who cut off his arm with a dull knife to save his life after being unable to free the limb from under a boulder. Tamblyn will play his girlfriend, with their relationship played out in flashbacks that keep him going.

– Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) has landed the title role of Jane Eyre, the Cary Fukunaga (sin Nombre) directed adaptation of the Charlotte Bronte novel.

– Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans) has signed on to star in Ami Canaan Mann’s very dark thriller The Fields reports Production Weekly. Based on a true story, Worthington would play a homicide detective from Texas investigating a strong of unsolved murders amidst the oil refineries in the state’s south-east with the help of a peer from New York.

– On the progress of the Thomas Crown Affair sequel, actor Pierce Brosnan said this week that “We’ve got the fourth script in and this is the closest we’ve gotten in structure to making sense. It’s very very hard. Now we have the character, it’s not really fleshed out, so we have to work on him, Mr. Crown, and her, Miss Moore, another affair, more art, but it has to be an unexpected surprise”

Jane Eyre – Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender may star in Sin nombre director’s next film

Posted by LiveFor on November 20, 2009

Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender are currently in negotiations to star in “Sin nombre” Cary Fukunaga’s (Sin nombre) adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s classic novel, Jane Eyre.

The film is to be a period piece but will play up the gothic elements of the story about Jane (Wasikowska), a demure governess who discovers her surly employer Rochester (Fassbender) is harboring a dark secret.

Wasikowska will next be seen as Alice alongside Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, which Disney is releasing next year. The actress is also going to be in Gus Van Sant’s untitled project for producers Bryce Dallas Howard and Imagine’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.

I don’t think I have actually seen her in anything yet so not sure how good an actress she is. Ellen Page (Juno, Inception) was originally down to play Jane, but has since left the project.

Fassbender previously appeared in Steve McQueen’s Hunger, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and Andrea Arnold’s Fish Tank.

He will next be seen in Neil Marshall’s Roman action film Centurion and Warner Bros. comic book western Jonah Hex opposite Josh Brolin and Megan Fox.

Fassbender is a totally solid actor. He was spot on as Basterd and just seems to be going from strength to strength which each new film. I have no doubt he will make a splendid Rochester.

I am just really curious to see what Fukunaga will do with this classic tale. Shooting is due to start next year.

Sin Nombre director to do Jane Eyre

Posted by LiveFor on October 21, 2009

caryThis is a bit of a surprise. Cary Fukunaga (Sin nombre) is in advanced negotiations to direct a feature adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre for Ruby Films according to Variety.

Moira Buffini has written the script. Buffini is fast becoming one of the U.K.’s hottest scribes thanks to her adaptation of Posy Simmonds’ graphic novel “Tamara Drewe” for director Stephen Frears and her own upcoming vampire project “Byzantium,” based on her stage play, “A Vampire Story.”

This new version will play up the gothic elements of the classic 19th century story about a governess who falls in love with her surly employer who has a dark secret.

The book is one of the most iconic in English literature and has been the subject of numerous previous adaptations. The BBC turned the book into a miniseries that won three Emmys in 2007, while the most recent feature, made in 1996, was directed by Franco Zeffirelli and starred Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist).

Ellen Page was previously attached to star as Jane but left the project some time ago.

The helmer has been much in demand following his best director prize at this year’s Sundance for feature debut “Sin nombre,” a gritty gang drama set in Latin America.
