The Killer Inside Me – Trailer for Winterbottom’s controversial adaption of the book

Posted by LiveFor on May 6, 2010

This adaption has been controversial due to the violence against women it portrays. Not sure why people have been surprised though as the book does deal with a bloke who is batshit nuts!

I’ve covered it quite a bit and it stars Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Ned Beatty, Bill Pullman and Elias Koteas

Based on the novel by legendary pulp writer Jim Thompson, Michael Winterbottom’s THE KILLER INSIDE ME tells the story of handsome, charming, unassuming small town sheriff’s deputy Lou Ford.

Lou has a bunch of problems. Woman problems. Law enforcement problems. An ever-growing pile of murder victims in his West Texas jurisdiction. And the fact he’s a sadist, a psychopath, a killer. Suspicion begins to fall on Lou, and it’s only a matter of time before he runs out of alibis.

But in Thompson’s savage, bleak, blacker than noir universe nothing is ever what it seems, and it turns out that the investigators pursuing him might have a secret of their own.

Machete has a message for Arizona

Posted by LiveFor on May 5, 2010

Nothing like a minigun on a motorbike to get your point across.

Robert Rodriguez directs a great cast headlined by the mighty Danny Trejo. Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Don Johnson, Jeff Fahey, and Steven Segal also star.

Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator. The feature version of the trailer finds Machete (Trejo) a renegade former Mexican Federale, roaming the streets of Texas after a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (Seagal). Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Marin) his “holy” brother, and April (Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. All while being tracked by Sartana (Alba), a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger.

Due out on the 5th September 2010.

The Killer Inside Me got slammed at Sundance but gets picked up despite the violence

Posted by LiveFor on February 2, 2010

Michael Winterbottom’s adaption of The Killer Inside Me stars Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Ned Beatty, Bill Pullman and Elias Koteas. I’ve been following it for a while now and it debuted at Sundance. Here’s the plot:

Deputy Sheriff Lou Ford is a pillar of the community in his small Texas town, patient and thoughtful. Some people think he’s a little slow and boring but that’s the worst they say about him. But then nobody knows about what Lou calls his ’sickness’. It nearly got him put away when he was younger, but his adopted brother took the rap for that. Now the sickness that has been lying dormant for a while is about to surface again – and the consequences are brutal and devastating.

Now reading that you would expect something dark, brutal and violent. Guess what? It sounds as if it is exactly that and yet it got absolutely slammed at Sundance for its graphic violence. However, reading between the lines I gather it is a good film, but the extreme violence (apparantly Jessica Alba’s characer gets beaten up so badly you can see her teeth through her cheek – Two Face anyone?) turned many off.

However, IFC Films this weekend paid $1.5 million to distribute The Killer Inside Me in the U.S. so it does appear that we’ll be able to watch the film. To be honest it sounds as if it is just extremely faithful to the novel by Jim Thompson.

Other films that found buyers at Sundance 2010 include:
Buried (Ryan Reynolds trapped alive in a big box)
The Kids Are All Right starring Annette Bening and Julianne Moore as lesbians
Twelve with Chace Crawford, Emma Roberts and 50 Cent
Hesher starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.

International buyers are looking at other films from the festival including:
Happy Thank You More Please from Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother)
Catfish, a documentary about an online relationship
Blue Valentine with Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams
Splice the sci-fi film by Vincenzo Natali.

Lots of good films heading our way.

Machete – Danny Trejo talks sequels and De Niro

Posted by LiveFor on December 21, 2009

Robert Rodriguez’s Machete edges ever closer and Collider spoke to Danny Trejo about what the film was about and what it was like working with Robert De Niro.

Well uh…Machete kicks ass. It is a culmination of Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico…there’s even a little bit of From Dusk ‘Til Dawn in there. I think it’s gonna be one of his best. And I’m not just saying that cause I’m the lead, it’s just a great movie. I think everybody’s gonna walk away from that movie with some opinion. It’s a battle for our border, you know? People are really serious about what’s going on with the border, and it shows the negative side of both sides. Not just, we want everybody to cross or we don’t want anybody to cross. It shows the negative side of both sides. Everybody’s gonna be pissed off.

Get a bag of popcorn and just sit and watch and you go back to the 1960s.

When I first saw Robert De Niro on the set, he came up and his first words to me were, “Don’t leave me like this, homes.” You know, that was my line in Heat. And I kind of laughed and he said, “Man, Danny, I’m really proud of you. You’re the lead. This is it, this is you.” And I looked him right in the eyes and I said, “Can I get you some coffee, Mr. De Niro?” [Laughter] You know, cause that’s the guy. I couldn’t believe that Robert got De Niro. And then Jessica Alba, you know? And Lindsay Lohan. And Michelle Rodriguez, and Jeff Fahey, and Steven Seagal, and Cheech Marin. It just goes on and on. It was really hard like not just giggling, you know? I mean, when you’re working, just not giggling. You know, come on, grow up. But it was amazing, and that cast was amazing.

We want Machete, Machete Kills, and Machete Kills Again. [Laughter] That’s mine and Robert’s standards, you know? Every time I text him, he’ll text me back, Machete 2, coming up. [Laughs]

Below is the fake trailer from Grindhouse that started it all.

Jessica Alba to go female superspy in the Insiders

Posted by LiveFor on November 25, 2009

Apparantly Jessica Alba is heading back to her Dark Angel roots as she will star in an adaptation of the Insiders, a series of Belgian graphic novels published by Dargaud.

Alba herself put up the money to buy the rights along with Robert Rodriguez, who will be producing this as well.

French-Algerian filmmaker Mabrouk El Mechri (JCVD which is a great film), is now attached to direct this project.

I’ve not heard of the comic book by Jean-Claude Bartoll. However it debuted back in 2002, and follows Najah Cruz, “a Columbian who is as deadly as she is beautiful. She has the weapons expertise and combat skills of a James Bond. At the secret request of the White House she infiltrates a worldwide mafia-like organization composed of businessmen and politicians and becomes the bodyguard of the organization’s leader.”

How does that grab you. Pretty cool I say. It also sounds like the comic book, Sleeper, but with no superpowers.

What do we have then – a cool comic book concept, a director who does things a bit differently and Jessica Alba. At the minute I am thinking Alba is the weak link in this one as many of the parts she has played recently are a bit…naff. Mind you she is starring in The Killer Inside Me and she did do the kick ass stuff back in James Cameron’s Dark Angel TV show. Plus she is easy on the eye. Hmm, maybe this might just work.

What do you think?

Harvey Keitel RIP – What a focking focker

Posted by LiveFor on November 12, 2009

just harveyRest in peace he who was Mr White, Bad Lieutenant Auggie Wren, The Wolf, and all the other cool characters. Don’t worry he isn’t dead. He’s just joining Robert De Niro in Little Fockers.

Oh how the mighty have fallen since Mean Streets. THR had the news.

Harvey Keitel has joined the cast of Universal and Tribeca Prods.’ “Meet the Fockers” sequel.

Regulars Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner and Owen Wilson are returning, along with newcomers Jessica Alba and Laura Dern.

Paul Weitz (“In Good Company”) is directing the film, which has the working title of “Little Fockers,” since it focuses on the main couple’s children. Keitel will play a contractor employed by Stiller’s character

Well that sounds like a whole heap of naffness. I thought the first one was a piece of irritating fluff – I like Ben Stiller, but he does make some bad films. Anyone seen Envy? I rest my case.

How on Earth these Focker films get top actors to be involved I just don’t know. Well apart from the money. Am I missing something about the films? Is it just me?

One thing I’ve learnt from this? Only that he played a Nazi soldier in Hogan’s Heroes. Who knew?

Oh and I’m back. Thanks to Ishmael for helping out.
