Captain America is going to be played by….

Posted by LiveFor on March 19, 2010

Hold up. Not so fast there pilgrim. Nothing is totally official, but here is what I know.

According to IESB, the role of Steve Rogers is down to there – Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, The Losers), and a sneaky entry by Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl). However, Tatum could be down for another G.I. Joe, Stan is not American (he’s Romanian and apparantly they don’t want a non-American in the part, that’s why Sam Worthington ruled himself out) and Evans could be tied to another FF film (although all reports suggest any new FF film will be a reboot with an all new cast.

Wait there though, I’m not finished.

According to Heat Vision blog Chris Evans has been offered the role of Captain America.

Marvel has not confirmed the development and CAA, which reps the actor, declined to comment.

Out of the three mentioned I would have to say Evans is the best choice. He’s got a bit more to him than the others and has the charisma needed to play Cap. Plus he is a known name and face, but not a huge name if you know what I mean.

Therefore, we may have finally got out Captain America. Mind you Alex Ross (the brilliant artist behind Marvels, Kingdom Come and so much more) has suggested John Hamm (Mad Men) as “Captain America is supposed to be the patriarch of the Marvel universe. To get a guy in his early to mid-20s is only thinking about where the character began, not what he ultimately needs to become.”

I have to agree with him. All the people chose to audition for the role are just that bit too young, Aaron Eckhart or Mark Valley would have been cool, but Hamm would also work (he’d be great as Superman though). Like I said out of the three names at the top Evans is the best of them.

Let’s just wait for the official announcement.

Do you think Chris Evans is the best choice for the role? Will he be able to fit it in with his Radio 2 morning show (a joke for the Brits there)? What superhero role should John Hamm play?

Mad Men Barbie Dolls – Now you can play with Christina Hendricks

Posted by LiveFor on March 11, 2010

The dolls are part of a premium-price collectors’ series for adults that Mattel calls the Barbie Fashion Model Collection. Although there have been Barbies and Kens based on other TV series, among them “I Love Lucy” and “The X-Files,” the dolls will be the first licensed line for that collection, Mattel says, with a suggested retail price of $74.95 each.

Mattel is licensing rights to the characters from Lionsgate, the studio that produces “Mad Men” for the AMC cable channel. There will be 7,000 to 10,000 copies of each doll, to be sold in specialty stores and on two Web sites, amctv.com and barbiecollector.com.

The characters to become dolls are Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the show’s leading man; his wife, Betty (January Jones); his colleague at the Sterling Cooper agency, Roger Sterling (John Slattery); and Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks), the agency’s office manager who was Roger’s mistress.

That two dolls represent a relationship outside wedlock, and Don Draper’s propensity for adultery, may be firsts for the Barbie world since the brand’s introduction five decades ago. But for the sake of the Barbie image, her immersion in the “Mad Men” era will go only so far: The dolls come with period accessories like hats, overcoats, pearls and padded undergarments, but no cigarettes, ashtrays, martini glasses or cocktail shakers.

Scott Glenn is in Sucker Punch

Posted by LiveFor on September 18, 2009

scott_glenn.jpg-4128Scott Glenn, a favourite actor of mine since his storming turn as astronaut Alan Shepherd in The Right Stuff, has signed on for Zack Snyder’s upcoming action drama, Sucker Punch!, which co-stars Jon Hamm, Emily Browning, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Oscar Isaac and Carla Gugino.

According to Variety, the film is set in the 1950s, and revolves around Baby Doll, a girl who creates an alternate reality to escape the every-day world after her stepfather commits her to a mental hospital with plans to have her lobotomized. Glenn will play a mentor and guide to Baby Doll and the other girls in the asylum.

No production date has been set.

Still very intrigued about this film. Can’t wait to see some actual concept art or footage from it.
