Bloodshot – Matthew Vaughn to have a go at the Valiant assassin

Posted by LiveFor on March 29, 2010

With Kick-Ass upon us, we now wonder what the director, Matthew Vaughn will turn to next.

Latino Review have the news that it could be another comic book film, but one with nothing to do with Mark Millar.

Matthew Vaughn’s next film is going to be a comic book yet again- but this time it is a comic book adaption of the defunct Valiant comic book BLOODSHOT.

There are two volumes of the comic with slightly different stories. The movie will focus on Volume 2. Bloodshot is about a reanimated government assassin killing machine named Angelo. Vaughn is writing along with Jane Goldman who wrote Stardust and Kick-Ass for him. Vaughn is fully financing and intends to cast the film late summer. William Morris/Endeavor did the deal. And Millar has nothing to do with it. As El Taco entiende, Vaughan doesn’t like Millar’s pathological lies either.

I used to like the Valiant line of comics – Solar Man of the Atom was a fave – but I never got round to reading Bloodshot.

More info on Bloodshot via WikiMortalli is a ruthless killer climbing the mob ranks when his crime family betray and murder him. In an experimental procedure the FBI attempt to extract information from his long-dead brain by injecting microscopic computers called nanites into his blood. The nanites quickly go to work, rebuilding his brain and then the rest of his body, unexpectedly reviving Angelo but erasing his memory in the process. The nanites now fully control Angelo’s body (manipulating blood flow, adrenaline levels etc.) giving him augmented reflexes and strength, enhanced hearing; the ability to heal rapidly, and control of electronic devices. Angry, violent and unsure of what he has become, he escapes. Taking the name Bloodshot, he begins the process of piecing together who he was.

For those not in the know Jane Goldman is the wife of Jonathan Ross and a pic of her is below.

Film 2010 – Claudia Winkleman to take over from Jonathan Ross

Posted by LiveFor on March 29, 2010

Claudia Winkleman, she of the fringe that you just want to cut, has been confirmed as the new host of Film 2010. For those not in the know that is the Film review show on BBC 1 here in the UK. Claudia will begin presenting the show from September.

Jonathan Ross is leaving the BBC after the recent shenanigans he got up to. Not only are they getting a new host but the show itself will now involve more studio guests.

Winkleman said “Everyone has an opinion on film and I’m looking forward to debating the biggest news and releases with a whole variety of guests each week. I am completely over the moon about being given this enormous honour and am incredibly proud to be to be presenting the new look Film 2010. It’s an honour to follow on from the brilliant Jonathan Ross.

“I have been lucky enough to cover the BAFTAs and present the UK broadcasts of the Oscars and the Golden Globes for years and now to be able to work with the producers on Film 2010 is just amazing.”

So they are changing the BBC’s premier film show to include more guests and debates therefore making it more akin to a chat show and devaluing what was once a great movie review show. I didn’t always agree with Ross’ reviews, but did enjoy the show. Winkleman is not one of my fave presenters and really don’t think she is the right choice. Mark Kermode was the favourite but looks like he’ll have to wait until next time.

How do you feel about the news? Who would have been a better choice?

Jeff Bridges talks about Crazy Heart, Drugs, Tron, The Dude and more with Jonathan Ross

Posted by LiveFor on February 13, 2010

There was a great interview on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross last night. It was with The Dude himself Jeff Bridges and they covered an awful lot of things during it.

Jeff chatted about how the set of The Big Lebowski was a drug free zone, but how he had in the past had good and bad times on drugs. Iron Man was a weird shoot as they had no script and so was improvised.

He took the role in Crazy Heart (check out the LFF review) so he could play guitar and gives hints about Tron Legacy – there are no hats, but there are bikes.

Watch the full interview below as they also chat about Starman, True Grit and much more (i’ve included a couple of versions in case one of them gets pulled.

Jonathan Ross’ thoughts on the Watchmen film

Posted by LiveFor on February 24, 2009

Jonathan Ross has been talking about Watchmen over on Twitter. As you all know he is a huge Watchmen fan and loves his movies. This is what he has had to say about Zack Snyder’s film (it’s a selection of his Tweets so may be a bit disjointed.

So we saw Watchman last night. Apologies for not tweeting after – was a
late night by our standards !

Watchman probably the most faitful adaptation of a comic to the big
screen. Ending changed very much for the better.

Great sets, costumes, special effects – Rorshach especially

Downside – too long, too reverential, lacks pace and feels a little
dull at times. In short – I love it and at same time am unimpressed !

Very graphic at times and then oddly crap at others ! Inconsistent.

Yes – too faithful. Would have been better to make it as a mini-series
if that was the intention.

Opening montage sequence to watchman just brilliant though. Had me
grinning from ear to ear.

In a way it’s too long for the big screen but too short to really work.
better to be an hour longer, and pacier, or shorter.

Non comic fans will be a bit confused. Dara O Brian was there and he
said a lot of it went over his head.

The action beats are exactly as they occur in the novel. The problems
lie elsewhere. i’ll go into it on Film 2009.

there was a super cool yellow carpet at the premiere with the blood splattered smiley face on it. IWOOT.

I also asked him whether the change in the ending worked and he said “Yes, better ending” which is some good news at least.
