Deathgames – Sam Jackson and Kellan Lutz are modern day gladiators

Posted by LiveFor on April 16, 2010

Samuel L. Jackson and Kellan Lutz are in negotiations to star in “Deathgames,” an indie action movie from Motion Picture Corporation of America according to Heat Vision.

Jonah Loop, a visual effects supervisor on such pics as “Collateral” and “A Perfect Getaway,” is making his directorial debut with the film, which begins shooting next month in Louisiana.

The story centers on a young man (Lutz) who is kidnapped and forced into the savage world of a modern gladiator arena, where men fight to the death for entertainment of the online masses. Jackson orchestrates the games, overseeing them from his computer lair with the help of twin ladies who see to his every desire.

I kind of imagine Samuel L Jackson has that kind of set up in real life. Sounds corny as hell but could be a bit of fun.

War of the Gods becomes Immortal – John Hurt and Isabel Lucas join the cast

Posted by LiveFor on April 7, 2010

Clash of the Titans has done rather well at the box office. Despite poor reviews and a bad 3D conversion it topped the charts and made $61.4 million in its opening weekend. I have yet to see it. Therefore, sword and sandal films have got a bit of a kick start.

Tarsem Singh (The Fall) has been casting War of the Gods, which is now going to be called Immortals. Latest casting news, via JoBlo, is that John Hurt and Isabel Lucas are on the team. Hurt is always great and Lucas was the human Decepticon in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

They join Mickey Rourke, Frida Pinto, Stephen Dorff, Kellan Lutz, Henry Cavill, Robert Maillet, Corey Sevier, Alan Van Sprang, Mercedes Leggett, Steve Byers, Romano Ozari and Neil Napier.

The story follows a purported bastard who retains an allegiance to his mother despite the fact that he longs to join the quest of a king who is battling demons in ancient Greece later embarks on a grail of discovery that has him finding he is the king’s son and also fated to become his country’s greatest hero as he leads the successful war against long-imprisoned Titans who are hoping to use the demons to restore their power.

Due for release on 11th November 2011.

War of Gods – Tarsem Singh gets Dorff

Posted by LiveFor on March 31, 2010

The other film that isn’t Clash of the Titans or Percy Jackson gets another cast member. Stephen Dorff (Blade, Public Enemies) is in talks for Relativity Media’s Greek mythology film War of Gods (or War of the Gods or Dawn of War), directed by Tarsem Singh (The Fall) according to Variety. Dorff will portray Stavros, a master thief who joins Theseus on his quest to help free Greece from the dark threat of the Titans.

Kellan Lutz, Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke and Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) also star.

The story centers on the young warrior Theseus (Cavill) who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. Mickey Rourke is the big bad King Hyperion, Kellan Lutz (Twilight) will play Poseidon and Frieda Pinto is Phaedra, an oracle priestess who also joins Theseus on his quest.

War of Gods will begin shooting in early April in Montreal with the film due out on 11th November 2011.

Holy Crom! Conan the Barbarian is the bloke from Stargate Atlantis and his dad is to be Mickey Rourke

Posted by LiveFor on January 22, 2010

Last week news was out that Jason Momoa and Kellan Lutz along with a third more well known name were contenders be the new Conan for Lionsgate.

We did not know who the third actor was until Latino Review found out it was Jared Padalecki from Supernatural – I never would have thought of him, but he worked with Conan director Marcus Nispel recently on the Friday the 13th reboot.

Prior to Padalecki auditioning, Momoa, Lutz, and another unknown actor named John Brotherton went through a series of rigorous screen tests.

From those original three, it was Momoa who emerged early on as Marcus Nispel’s top choice with Kellan Lutz a distant second.

The folks at Lionsgate wanted to be extra sure, hence why they held off offering the part to Momoa and auditioning Jared Padalecki which took place this week.

However, Momoa came into Lionsgate late last week after the Fleming story broke and met with everyone at the studio and talked the talk had another screen test and got the role. As I said the other week I think he has the right otherworldy look to play Conan. I am glad Padalecki didn’t get the role as, even though I like him in Supernatural, he would have just been wrong for the role.

Some other good news from Latino Review is the fact that Mickey Rourke has been cast as Conan’s fathe, Corin. How cool is that.

You can check out Momoa in the upcoming HBO series George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones.

All we need now is some info on what tales of Conan they will be using for the film. How do you feel with Momoa being Conan?

Conan the Barbarian – Who will play the Cimmerian? A Vampire or an Alien?

Posted by LiveFor on January 14, 2010

The new Conan the Barbarian film by Marcus Nispel is due to start filming in Bulgaria on 15th march. However, we still don’t know who will play Conan.

It looks as if the choice is down to three according to Deadline – Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen in the Twilight Saga sequels New Moon and Eclipse), and Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex in the TV series Stargate: Atlantis) plus another unnamed but better established actor before deciding.

Lutz is in the pic below and Momoa the one above. Out of the two I feel Momoa has the better look for Conan – he has the build but he also has the slight otherworldliness about him that I always get when reading Conan. The whole Stranger in a Strange land type vibe.

As for who the other unnamed actor could be I just don’t know. Hugh Jackman, Vin Diesel, who else could it be?
