Directed by Kevin Smith (Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Clerks, Mallrats), Cop Out features two longtime NYPD partners on the trail of a stolen, rare, mint-condition baseball card who find themselves up against a merciless, memorabilia-obsessed gangster. Jimmy (Bruce Willis) is the veteran detective whose missing collectible is his only hope to pay for his daughter’s upcoming wedding, and Paul (Tracy Morgan) is his “partner-against-crime” whose preoccupation with his wife’s alleged infidelity makes it hard for him to keep his eye on the ball.
Kevin Smith directs “Cop Out” from a screenplay by Robb Cullen & Mark Cullen (TV’s “Las Vegas”). The film stars Bruce Willis (the “Die Hard” films), Tracy Morgan (TV’s “30 Rock”), Adam Brody (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”), Kevin Pollak (“Tropic Thunder”), Guillermo Diaz (TV’s “Weeds”) and Seann William Scott (“Role Models”).

Bob and Harvey Weinstein started Miramax (named after their parents Max and Miriam) about 31 years. They championed many indie films and helped start the careers of people such as Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino.
Now news over at The Warpsays that Disney are closing the Miramax offices and over eighty people will be out of work.
There are also six films sat on the shelf which include.
– Last Night, which revolves around a married couple separated for the night and resisting former lovers
– The Debt, a film that follows three Mossad agents as they set out to capture a notorious Nazi War criminal.
– The Tempest, a big screen adaptation of Shakespeare’s play that features Helen Mirren and comedian Russell Brand.
No word on whether they’ll be bought from another company or if they are buried forever.
About the closure, Harvey Weinstein stated, “I’m feeling very nostalgic right now. I know the movies made on my and my brother Bob’s watch will live on as well as the fantastic films made under the direction of Daniel Battsek. Miramax has some brilliant people working within the organization and I know they will go on to do great things in the industry.”
Still this may not be the end as the Weinsteins may try and buy the name back.
How do you feel about the closure of Miramax?

This is the trailer for the film that used to be called A Couple of Dicks. The studio got cold feet about that so now it is called Cop Out. Personally, I think that is a bit of a cop out…ah I see what they did there!
Looks like it could be fun and good to see Smith getting to direct more big names after Zack & Miri Makes a Porno (that was a great film). Smith didn’t write this one though, that honour goes to Rob Cullen.

The film also stars Seann William Scott, Adam Brody and Michelle Trachtenberg.
Vodpod videos no longer available.
The film is out on 6th February 2010.
By the way if anyone knows Street Pete can you ask him why Bruce Willis looks so much like him.

Filmmaker Kevin Smith will conduct a 24 hour online Q&A at Twitter for an uninterrupted 24 hours when he begins communicating with some of his 1.25 million Twitter followers on the morning of Labor Day, Monday, September 7.
Promoting his latest book, “Shootin’ the Sh*t With Kevin Smith”, as well as a 15 city international speaking tour that starts this month, Smith will answer as many questions as he can over the course of the day. The 24 hours will start from the posting of that morning’s first Tweet.
“This is not news at all. In fact, it’s kinda stupid. But I wanna see if I can do it. I’ve been training for this my whole life, simply by being a lazy fat-ass who’d rather stare at a screen than better himself with a brisk constitutional. Someone asked what my training regiment is gonna be, and I told them I’ve already stockpiled lots of Count Chocula.”

“Shootin’ the Sh*t With Kevin Smith,” from Titan Books, will arrive in book stores September 22. This volume of essays collects the best moments of Smith’s freewheeling conversations with his friend and producer Scott Mosier, as heard on their top-rated podcast, known as the “SModcast”, which attracts up to a hundred thousand downloads every week. Lewd, and hilariously crude, “Shootin’ The Sh*t” topics range from the genesis of Stalin’s Monkey Soldier army, to the horrifying tale of Kevin vs. Steak Tartare, and how Kevin was once willing to let Alanis Morissette get mugged…
Titan previously published Smith’s comics work in the UK, and has since struck success collaborating on collections of his writings. Titan’s paperback volumes Silent Bob Speaks and My Boring-Ass Life have sold over 100,000 copies, with the latter making the New York Times bestseller list on its release in 2007.
Smith’s Fall speaking tour starts in Minneapolis on Sept. 17th and takes him to Chicago, Ann Arbor, Philadelphia, Dallas, Miami, London (where a second show was added after the venue quickly sold out), Glasgow, Dublin, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver and Edmonton. Smith’s “show” is in question and answer format, with a brief question turning into an hour-long response in some cases. Smith’s been featured in three successful DVD’s featuring his live shows, “An Evening with Kevin Smith”, “An Evening with Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder”, and last year’s “A Threevening with Kevin Smith.”

Here are a couple of photos from the set of Kevin Smith’s A Couple of Dicks. They show Kevin Pollack (Usual Suspects) and Jason Lee (My Name is Earl, Mallrats) looking all swish in their suits.
Still sad that My Name is Earl has been cancelled.
