Posted by LiveFor on May 5, 2010

Now I’m not one for going “yaay look at me”….well running a blog is kind of saying “Yaay look at me.” Moving on.

Design Challenge – Fight Club

Posted by LiveFor on April 24, 2010

Okay Space Monkeys. Here is a new challenge for you.

Robocop and Dark City went well (at the time of writing I am still going through the latter. Will post them later).

Here is what you have to do for the next one.

You are a film poster designer and have been asked to put together a poster for a new film called Fight Club.

The only info you have about it:

– A loner with insomnia and a cool guy set up an underground fight club.

– They live in a strange dilapidated house.

– One of the men is not what they seem.

– A crazy woman keeps hassling them.

– They make soap and a large man with breasts joins the Club.

– Clubs spread around the country and turns to terrorism

It can be any genre, could be set in any place, any time and is yet to be cast – you can choose the actors and director

You have until 16th May.

From badly drawn mayhem to super slick graphic design, all entries are welcome. Remember even if it is bad only after disaster can we be resurrected.

Post your posters over on the Forum – the best ones will get shown on the site.

This is your life and it’s ending one minute at a time. Go and do something cool and creative.

I would say go and spread the word but you all know what the first rule of Fight Club is.

Go and create.

Competition: Win Richard Kelly’s The Box

Posted by LiveFor on April 11, 2010

Richard Kelly is the guy behind the brilliant Donnie Darko and the not well received Southland Tales.

On th 19th April his new film The Box is released on DVD in the UK. To mark the occasion I have got 3 copies of the film to give away.

Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world; someone they don’t know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity.

The competition is open for anyone anywhere in the world. Mind you you will need a player that can play a Region 2 DVD.

Who wrote the short story that The Box is based on?

Email me the answer with “The Box” as the subject. Include your name and address as that will make it quicker to send out the prize if you win.

Competition ends at midnight GMT on 18th April 2010.

Thanks to the good people at Romley Davies for sorting this out.

LFF Movie Club – Half Baked. Be friends with the Squirrel Master

Posted by LiveFor on April 2, 2010

“Get some sour cream and onion chips with some dip, man, some beef jerky, some peanut butter. Get some Häagen-Dazs ice cream bars, a whole lot, make sure chocolate, gotta have chocolate, man. Some popcorn, red popcorn, graham crackers, graham crackers with marshmallows, the little marshmallows and little chocolate bars and we can make s’mores, man. Also, celery, grape jelly, Cap’n Crunch with the little Crunch berries, pizzas. We need two big pizzas, man, everything on ’em, with water, whole lotta water, and Funyons.”

This weekends Live for Films Film Club choice is the classic stoner comedy, Half-Baked. If you haven’t seen it yet, get hold of a copy and prepare for hilarity and a MacGyver smoker. You’ll never look at the back of a dollar bill in the same way.

After Kenny accidentaly kills a cop’s diabetic horse by feeding it the food he purchased from a munchie run, he is put in jail and is given a 1 million dollar bail. The rest of the group must bail Kenny out before Nasty Nate gets to him. The group decides to sell marijuana that Thurgood gets through his job as a janitor at a pharmaceutical lab. They become pals with rap star Sir Smoke-A-Lot and the rivals of dealer Samson Simpson. On the side, Thurgood seeks the love of Mary Jane, an anti-pot daughter of a dealer. What follows is typical pothead behaviour with a ton of cameos. Look carefully.

The 1998 film is directed by Tamra Davis. It stars Dave Chappelle, Rachel True, Jim Breuer, Guillermo Díaz, Harland Williams, Tommy Chong, Willie Nelson, Jon Stewart, Stephen Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Snoop Dogg, Janeane Garofalo and Bob Saget and more.

That’s a whole lot of people. So, who’s coming with me?

If you are just joining us the LFF Film Club is all about getting people to watch classic, cult, cool or just forgotten movies.

Watch it then talk about your favourite part, worst bit, best quote, coolest actor, plot holes, and more over on the LFF Forum.

“Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you’re cool, and fuck you, I’m out!”

LFF Robocop Poster Redesign Challenge – The Results

Posted by LiveFor on April 1, 2010

By ckc1ne.

The Live for Films Robocop Poster Redesign Challenge ended yesterday and I have been blown away by the results. I thought there would be a couple of posters. 3 tops. Instead there were 10 and all are excellent.

Whether it be a lovely professional look, cool casting, stupendous taglines (He’s made out of Fucking Metal is my fave) or just great fun all are brilliant and worthy to enter the LFF Hall of Awesome.

Have a good look at them all (check out the Forum where they got posted first with the designer’s comments) and have a go at the next LFF Poster Design Challenge – This one is for the film Dark City.

Hopefully for some of the future ones there will be celebrity judges.

Let me know which is your favourite in the comments.

Posted by LiveFor on March 22, 2010

Fearless Leader Phil has been in touch to say he is not too well (he has a bad case of head goblins or something) so he asked me to post some things on the site over the next few days.

I hope he is okay and hope I do a good job.

Who am I?

Call me Ishmael.

LFF Film Club – Three Days of the Condor

Posted by LiveFor on March 12, 2010

“You think not getting caught in a lie is the same thing as telling the truth?”

This weekend the Live for Films Film Club movie is the classic Sydney Pollack 1975 movie, Three Days of the Condor.

His CIA code name is Condor. In the next seventy-two hours almost everyone he trusts will try to kill him.

It stars Robert Redford, Faye Dunaway, Max von Sydow and Cliff Robertson.

Condor is a superb film. Great performances, very cool and stylish. When you watch it have a think about The Bourne Identity film and you will see where they got some of the ideas for that film.

If you are just joining us the LFF Film Club is all about getting people to watch classic, cult, cool or just forgotten movies.

Watch it then talk about it over on the LFF Forum.
