* Stuart Hazeldine (“Exam”) has apparently completed the screenplay for a film adaptation of John Christopher’s classic British sci-fi novel trilogy “The Tripods” and indicates Alex Proyas (“Knowing,” “Dark City”) is aiming to produce and potentially direct according to Digital Spy.

* Thanks to DVR data which shows a 50% jump in audience, Fox has confirmed it plans to air all thirteen episodes of the second season of Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse” series says Reuters. As for ordering additional episodes or a third season, Fox says it will make that decision after the current run. That decision however seems unlikely as the first season experienced a similar 50% DVR rate increase but pulled in stronger live numbers.

* The Playlist reports that before he gets to work on the script for the “Spider-Man” spin-off feature “Venom”, director Gary Ross is tackling a different kind of hero – swinging spy Matt Helm for Paramount Pictures. Paul Attanasio (“Donnie Brasco”) penned the latest draft of the script which Steven Spielberg considered directing but opted instead for the “Harvey” remake. Paramount is keen to have a Bond/Bourne style spy franchise of their own and have reportedly set Ross to direct the project.

* Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz’s Wichita gets a name change to Knight and Day.

* Mark Dindal (“Chicken Little,” “The Emperor’s New Groove”) is set to direct the live-action family comedy “Housebroken” for Walden Media says Variety. “Housebroken” will center around a newly married couple’s talking pets, who must adjust to living together under one roof.

* Kristen Schaal (“Flight of the Conchords”) has joined the cast of  Toy Story 3 for Disney Pictures and Pixar according to director Lee Unkrich on a recent video blog. Schaal voices a new character but no further details are forthcoming. Blake Clark is also taking over for Slinky, replacing the late Jim Varney. The cast this time around includes Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Estelle Harris, John Morris, Laurie Metcalf, R. Lee Ermey, Jodi Benson, Ned Beatty, Michael Keaton, Timothy Dalton, Jeff Garlin, Bonnie Hunt and Whoopi Goldberg.

* Chris Pine (“Star Trek”) and director D.J. Caruso (“Eagle Eye,” “Disturbia”) are in negotiations for the fact-based drama “The Art of Making Money” at Paramount Pictures says Variety. Pine will play Art Williams, the alias for a Chicago man who rose from petty theft to become a master counterfeiter. Frank Baldwin wrote the script based on a 2005 Rolling Stone article.
