Resident Evil 5 rumoured to be a Reboot

Posted by LiveFor on September 8, 2009

more_millaAt the start of August one of the posts in The Random mentioned that Resident Evil 4: Afterlife the 3D sequel was in the works and due out on 27th August 2010. There will also be multiple clones of Alice (Milla Jovovich) in that film.

It doesn’t end there though. Bloody Disgusting has the news that Sony Screen Gems is planning a fifth film.

The word is that the studio is planning a quasi-reboot, which may be called Resident Evil Begins.

The idea is to redo the story of a special military unit who fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident.

I have no idea why they would go and reboot the series when there is plenty of things to mine from the basic idea. Going back to the beginning does seem a little pointless.

I personally feel they should stick with the video games. Are you a fan of the Resident Evil films? How do you feel about a reboot of the series.

Is Paul W. S. Anderson a Dumb Ass for taking on Dumas’ Three Musketeers?

Posted by LiveFor on September 2, 2009

musketeers
Paul W. S. Anderson – Now there is a man. Filmmaker and married to Milla Jovovich. Full of good intentions yet they never quite work out as well as they should. All of his films have great concepts or based on great work yet something always seems to get lost between conception and the big screen.

I enjoyed Event Horizon – it had a nice look and a good soundtrack, Soldier was just empty, Resident Evil disappointed me and the less said about Aliens vs Predator the better (it should have been so good). Mind you Death Race wasn’t as sucky as I thought it would be – that may have been because of the physical effects as opposed to CGI. The one constant in all his movies, apart from not being very good, has been high tech future death dealing. Now that looks as if it is going to change.

Word is that he is going all swashbuckling on us with an adaption on Alexandre Dumas classic, The Three Musketeers. He is going to co-write, co-produce and direct. However, being Paul W. S. Anderson he has to take something good and give it the patent pending Anderson twist – yep he is going 3D.

Now of all the stories that don’t need the 3D treatment I would say that this is one of them. Plus it has been done so many times before – The Oliver Reed version is my favourite.

“We are definitely modernizing ‘The Three Musketeers’ without compromising the fun of shooting a period piece,” said Anderson, who hopes to shoot in France and Germany. “But in our film, corsets and feathered hats don’t take center stage. Our version is rich in eye-popping action, romance and adventure.”

My immediate reaction to this is “Oh dear!”

How do you feel about a 3D Musketeers movie helmes by the master of disaster?

The Fourth Kind – Trailer for a very close encounter

Posted by LiveFor on August 14, 2009

In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to documentuntil now. Structured unlike any film before it, The Fourth Kind is a provocative thriller set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where—mysteriously since the 1960s—a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered. Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented. Using never-before-seen archival footage that is integrated into the film, The Fourth Kind exposes the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses. Their accounts of being visited by alien figures all share disturbingly identical details, the validity of which is investigated throughout the film.

A UFO sighting is referred to as an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. Contact with extraterrestrials, is an encounter of the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document Until now.

A Perfect Getaway – Poster

Posted by LiveFor on June 16, 2009

Here is a poster for David Twohy’s A Perfect Getaway. The film is due out on 14th August and stars Timothy Olyphant (Hitman, The Crazies), Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil, Ultraviolet), Steve Zahn (Rescue Dawn, Sahara), Kiele Sanchez and Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek, Thor).

Cliff and Cydney are an adventurous young couple celebrating their honeymoon by backpacking to one of the most beautiful, and remote, beaches in Hawaii. Hiking the wild, secluded trails, they believe they’ve found paradise. But when the pair comes across a group of frightened hikers discussing the horrifying murder of another newlywed couple on the islands, they begin to question whether they should turn back. Unsure whether to stay or flee, Cliff and Cydney join up with two other couples, and things begin to go terrifyingly wrong. Far from civilization or rescue, everyone begins to look like a threat and nobody knows whom to trust. Paradise becomes hell on earth as a brutal battle for survival begins…
