Mission: Impossible IV – Brad Bird is almost on board

Posted by LiveFor on April 9, 2010

Vulture have the news that Brad Bird (Ratatouille, The Incredibles) is in final negotiations with Paramount Pictures to direct Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible IV.

It looks as if the only problem could be Bird’s asking price. Animated projects take three years of work meaning he gets paid a lot more money. Plus he’s won two Oscars and that would whack his asking price up again. Since, Mission: Impossible IV will take less time, Paramount hopes Bird will reduce his asking price.

I’m still not sure how well Bird’s skills at directing an animated movie will translate to live action. At the very least it should make interesting viewing.

Mission: Impossible IV is due out on 27th May 2011 and J J Abrams is producing.

RIP: Peter Graves – Oveur

Posted by LiveFor on March 15, 2010

The 83-year-old star – best known for his roles as bumbling airline pilot Clarence Oveur in spoof movie ‘Airplane!’ and special agent Jim Phelps in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ TV series – suffered a suspected heart attack outside his home.

The actor was just days away from his 84th birthday and had been out having brunch with his family to celebrate before collapsing as they returned to his house. One of his children attempted to resuscitate him but he was unresponsive.

Peter – whose real name was Peter Aurness – starred in more than 70 TV shows and movies, including 1953 classic film ‘Stalag 17’, in which he played an undercover Nazi spy, and hit western television series ‘Fury’, where he played a horse rancher who befriended an orphan and which ran for five years until 1960.

Despite his advancing years, Peter – who has also voiced a number of documentary shows – recently insisted he had no plans to retire.

He said: “There has got to be some good parts around for guys my age.”

He is survived by his wife Joan, their three daughters – Kelly, Claudia and Amanda – and six grandchildren.

Mission Impossible 4 – Tom Cruise is back

Posted by LiveFor on February 10, 2010

It wasn’t that long ago that J J Abrams mentioned he would produce another Mission Impossible film. He directed the third one which I thought was great as it had the whole team thing going for it.

Today, according to Deadline Hollywood, Paramount Pictures signed the deal with Tom Cruise to return as Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible 4. Cruise will produce the film with J.J. Abrams.

Screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec who wrote Alias are already attached to write the script. The plan is for this to be Cruise’s next film and start shooting by summer for a 2011 release.

I really hope the team thing going for the third one as the second one was dreadful. Are you glad Cruise is back for MI4 or would you have liked to see a new team? Who do you want to direct it?

This message will self destruct at some point in the future.

J J Abrams producing Mission Impossible 4

Posted by LiveFor on June 11, 2009

Spoiler TV has the news that J.J. Abrams (Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek, Alias) is going to be the man producing Mission Impossible 4.

Tom Cruise will be back to play Ethan Hunt.

“I am incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as a producer on Mission Impossible 4,” Abrams said. He has yet to commit to directing the project.

“Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing.” He went on to say.

No word on plot and from the sound of it there is no script yet so who knows how long before we see the fourth film. I did enjoy Abrams M:I3. What would you want to see in the new film? Do you even want an M:I4?
