Thor – First look at the Destroyer

Posted by LiveFor on April 29, 2010

This appears to be our first glimpse of something substantial from the Kenneth Branagh Thor film. Latino Review came across the image that seems to show the Destroyer standing in the middle of a desert.

This enchanted suit of armour has been knocking around the Marvel universe for 40 odd years and is a bit of a tough bad guy to beat.

The Destroyer is an enchanted suit of armor forged by Odin, and when it first appeared it was hinted that the Destroyer had been created as a weapon to face some dark menace from the stars. It is first seen residing in the Temple of darkness in Asia. The Destroyer is used by Thor’s arch-foe Loki on several occasions, and each time has actually come close to killing Thor.

The Destroyer is lifeless on its own – although it can act independently for short periods – until animated by the life-force of a sapient living being. Even when so animated, the Destroyer retains a rudimentary base personality that will eventually subvert the host unless a strong-willed individual is in control, such as Thor or Loki. Odin is also able to cast a spell that can force the animating persona from the armor and deactivate it. Once animated, the Destroyer possesses the strength to exceed beings such as Thor and is almost totally invulnerable. The armor also has the ability to project blasts of energy/heat/concussive force, emit a disintegration beam activated via its visor, manipulate electro-magnetism and molecules and achieve flight. – Wiki

The film follows the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

If this is from the Thor shoot then it is looking very nice indeed.

Thor – Trailer…well a fan made one

Posted by LiveFor on April 24, 2010

I love me a good fan made trailer and this is kind of cool while we wait for something more official from Kenneth Branagh’s Thor.

An arrogant Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is cast to Earth from Asgard as a weakling to learn, where he falls in love and encounters a familiar enemy and some new allies.

Footage from: Ca$h [2010], Outlander [2008], Brothers [2009], Hulk [2003], Alexander [2004], Troy [2004], Van Helsing [2004], Defendor [2010], Angels And Demons [2009], A Perfect Getaway [2009], Superman Returns [2006], Hellboy [2004], Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D [1998], and the trailer for The Clash Of The Titans, Swat, Spartan, Marvel Ultimate Alliance VG, Soundbites from the animated ‘Hulk Vs Thor’

Music from Immediate Music ‘Heaven’s Warriors’ and ‘Distant Thunder’

NOTE: Using all available info about the upcoming Thor movie [2011], I started collecting scenes and similar shots from other movies with the listed cast. Yes, Chris Hemsworth lost his wig on the rainbow bridge upon entering Earth. Tom Hiddleston (Loki) has not starred in any readily available movies so he was merely implied here. Natalie Portman plays a caring wife ‘Brothers’ so that was easy; Stellan Skarsgaard (Angels & Demons) as the expert on Norse Mythology; Clark Gregg (Iron Man, Spartan) as the SHIELD Agent; Sir Anthony Hopkins(Alexander) as Odin; and Kat Dennings (Defendor) as a new character.

I’m expecting alot from this movie and this is how I envision Kenneth Branagh will direct it.

Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to be adapted by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov

Posted by LiveFor on March 2, 2010

Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch) are joing forces to bring the Seth Grahame-Smith novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to the big screen.

I posted the trailer for the book yesterday and, according to Heat Vision, this caught the interest of Timur and Tim.

The book was released today by Grand Central Publishing.

Burton and Bekmambetov will produce the adaptation with Jim Lemley.

Grahame-Smith, who combined zombies and Jane Austen in the best-selling novel “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” will write the screenplay. The Zombies book is set up at Lionsgate with Natalie Portman producing and attached to direct.

If it does get as far as a film who should star in it and would you want Timur or Tim to direct or someone else?

The facts included are: for over 250 years, between 1607 and 1865, vampires thrived in the shadows of America. Few humans believed in them; Abraham Lincoln was the most gifted vampire hunter of his day, and kept a secret journal about his war against them; and rumors of the journal’s existence have long been a favorite topic among historians and Lincoln biographers. Most dismiss it as myth. Through the extraordinary discovery of Abraham Lincoln’s previously unknown and long lost journals, Seth Grahame-Smith brings to life the Great Emancipator’s untold history- his lifelong pursuit of the immortal undead. With unparalleled daring, Seth re-writes Abraham Lincoln’s biography to include this significant and gory piece of US history. “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” features all the detail, colour, and readability of Team of Rivals – Barack Obama’s favourite book and the number one bestselling Lincoln biography – with only some of the historical accuracy (and thrilling new scenes of vampire combat). From Lincoln’s frontier childhood to his assassination, this richly re-imagined history gives new meaning to the moments of an already incredible life.

Serena – Angelina Jolie and Darren Aronofsky may team up for thriller in the woods

Posted by LiveFor on March 1, 2010

Angelina Jolie and Darren Aronofsky are in talks to adapt Ron Rash’s 2008 period book – Serena: A Novel according to THR.

The story is set in the rugged mountains of 1929 North Carolina and follows a man named George Pemberton and his new bride, Serena, as they create a timber empire. Serena not only takes to the woods, but she also pushes her husband to commit more and more ruthless acts. When she learns she cannot bear a child, Serena sets out to murder the son her husband fathered illegitimately.

Sounds like a nice, cheerful tale! Joking aside, it is one of those stories that actors loves as it gives them a chance to go all out and do a great performance.

Jolie is currently filming The Tourist with Johnny Depp. She had dropped out of Wanted 2, which had supposedly killed the sequel although Universal are saying it is still go (not that difficult to continue without Jolie considering the fate of her character in the first on). She was meant to have signed up for the Alfonso Cuaron sci-fi film Gravity, but there are conflicting reports on whether she actually has and there is the old news that she was looking to star in an adaption of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels.

What that all means is that I haven’t got a Scooby Doo about what she will be filming once The Tourist wraps up. Out of all of them I would like to see her star in Gravity, but if reports are true that she is no longer attached to that then Serena would be a good one to see.
Aronofsky has just finished filming Black Swan starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis so Serena could be his next one.
Which one of the rumoured projects would you like to see Jolie star in next? If it is Serena what actor would you like to see star opposite her?

Best Buds – Natalie Portman to star in stoner comedy

Posted by LiveFor on February 22, 2010

You may or may not know it but Natalie Portman has a production company called Handsome Charlie Films. She set it up to make films that she is interested in and so far that includes Hesher (starring Joseph Gordon Levitt) and it is currently setting up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Now, according to Pajiba Portman has got a female stoner comedy called Best Buds lined up after Thor. She will produce and star in the film which follows two best female friends who take a road trip to their friend’s wedding in order to save her by bringing her weed.

It is being likened to Harold and Kumar and Half-Baked (the latter of which is a brill comedy and if you haven’t seen it go and do it now).

Still early days on this one, but it does sound promising and who doesn’t like a good stoner comedy.

Robocop – Darren Aronofsky is still attached to the reboot

Posted by LiveFor on February 10, 2010

The last we had heard about the proposed Robocop reboot was this it was pretty much dead in the water and Darren Aronofsky didn’t want to film it in 3D and had moved on to other things – the film Black Swan featuring Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman as ballet dancers who have a violent sex scene together and one of them may not exist.

Now STYD spoke to screenwriter David Self about the Robocop film.

“I’m still involved with it and Darren Aronofsky’s still involved with it,” said Self. “He’s making another movie right now (Black Swan), but we’re waiting for MGM, to sort things out since they’re a large corporation and it’s a situation where we have to be practical. We’re waiting to continue with them, we hope that that happens soon and we can get back to it soon.”

Will the new film be a sequel, prequel or reboot? Self explained, “It’s definitely not a sequel. It’s an origin story, it’s an origin to the original Robocop. So, it’s basically a ‘reboot’.”

Do you want a Robocop reboot? Who should play Murphy and what do you want to see in it?

James Franco in Your Highness and Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours

Posted by LiveFor on January 7, 2010

James Franco is a very busy man. Not only is he starring in the US soap General Hospital he has been working away on the medieval comedy, Your Highness, with Danny McBride, Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel. It is directed by David Gordon Green and you can see a photo of them above.

Throughout history, tales of chivalry have burnished the legends of brave, handsome knights who rescue fair damsels, slay dragons and conquer evil. But behind many a hero is a good-for-nothing younger brother trying just to stay out of the way of those dragons, evil and trouble in general. Danny McBride and James Franco team up for an epic comedy adventure set in a fantastical world–Your Highness. As two princes on a daring mission to save their land, they must rescue the heir apparent’s fiancée before their kingdom is destroyed.

Thadeous (McBride) has spent his life watching his perfect older brother Fabious (Franco) embark upon valiant journeys and win the hearts of his people. Tired of being passed over for adventure, adoration and the throne, he’s settled for a life of wizard’s weed, hard booze and easy maidens. But when Fabious’ bride-to-be, Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel), gets kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux), the king gives his deadbeat son an ultimatum: Man up and help rescue her or get cut off.

Half-assedly embarking upon his first quest, Thadeous joins Fabious to trek across the perilous outlands and free the princess. Joined by Isabel (Natalie Portman)–an elusive warrior with a dangerous agenda of her own–the brothers must vanquish horrific creatures and traitorous knights before they can reach Belladonna. If Thadeous can find his inner hero, he can help his brother prevent the destruction of his land. Stay a slacker, and not only does he die a coward, he gets front row seats to the dawn of an all-new Dark Age.

Then in March, Franco will begin work on Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours. This is the true story of Aron Ralston, the mountain climber who amputated his own arm to free himself after being trapped by a boulder for nearly five days.

Simon Beaufoy write the script that apparantly has no dialogue for the first hour of the story.

Which one of the two would you rather watch?
