The Smurfs – First look at Hank Azaria as Gargamel

Posted by LiveFor on May 1, 2010

Smurfin’ Hell! Still not excited about a Smurf’s film, but I think the kids will love it. They seem to have the look right for it so far.

In the 3D August 3, 2011 release, the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village and they tumble from their magical world into ours – in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

The cast includes Neil Patrick Harris (Johan), Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara (Odile-Johan’s wife), Anton Yelchin (Clumsy Smurf), Jonathan Winters (Papa Smurf), Katy Perry (Smurfette), Alan Cumming (Gutsy Smurf), Fred Armisen (Brainy Smurf), George Lopez (Grouchy Smurf), and Paul Reubens (Jokey Smurf).

The Smurfs – Sofia Vergara has live action role

Posted by LiveFor on March 29, 2010

UPDATE: 01/05/10 – First look at Hank Azaria as Gargamel.

Sofia Vergara has been cast in The Smurfs, the Raja Gosnell-directed adaptation of the ’80s cartoon series that Columbia Pictures will release in summer 2011. She will play Odile, a powerful executive at a high-end French cosmetics company who is married to the live-action character played by Neil Patrick Harris.

Jayma Mays, Katy Perry and Hank Azaria are also in the movie, which begins shooting in New York in the next week.

Anyone excited for a Smurfs film or do you which it would just Smurf off?

Smurfing Hell! Katy Perry may be Smurfette

Posted by LiveFor on March 5, 2010

She kissed a girl and she liked it, but is now marrying, or is married to Russell Brand. Now pop star, Katy Perry, is heading to the big screen well her voice is as she is down to play Smurfette in The Smurfs. That instantly reminds me of Donnie Darko (see the clip below if you don’t know about the Darko thing).

Recent news on the film was that Neil Patrick Harris was playing a live action role in the film. Now, along with Perry, Alan Cummings (Tin Man, X-Men 2) will voice Gutsy Smurf, George Lopez as Grouchy Smurf and Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf. Winters voiced Papa and a number of other Smurfs in the original cartoon. Actually it was Don Messick who voiced Papa Smurf originally. Thanks to Birdchick for the info.

I still can’t get excited about this film although I know my kids will probably love it and, at the end of the day, they are exactly who the film is aimed at.

Do you think Perry will work as Smurfette?

The Random – Wolverine 2, Marco Polo, Green Lantern, The Shadow, The Smurfs, De Niro in Dark Fields, Jackman in Selma, Rachel McAdams gets a Woody, Splice

Posted by LiveFor on March 4, 2010

– Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (X-Men, The Usual Suspects) has finished his draft of the Wolverine sequel, which he began writing in August. Shooting is currently expected to commence in January of 2011. It is going to be set in Japan and no word yet on who will direct although Hugh Jackman will be back as Logan. I just hope the claws are better than the first film.

– Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend,” “Constantine) will direct a feature about Marco Polo for Warner Bros. Pictures reports Variety – More fantasy/adventure epic than serious biopic drama, the film will be most set in “the Orient of our imagination”

– Test shooting on the Green Lantern has started shooting in New Orleans. Apparantly it involves a stunt car.

– David Slade (30 Days of Night) could direct the Sam Raimi produced film adaptation of classic pulp character The Shadow at 20th Century Fox reports Latino Review.

– Dr Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris, is to be the live action star in The Smurfs movie. I feel slightly more interested in the project…but only a little.

Robert De Niro joins Bradley Cooper in The Dark Fields. The film is about ‘a down-and-out Gotham writer (Cooper) who comes into possession of a designer drug that gives him newfound intelligence and success‘. According to Variety, De Niro will be playing the role of the brilliant financial mogul that’s chasing after Bradley Cooper’s character. The film will begin shooting in May in Philadelphia.

– Hugh Jackman will be starring in Selma to be directed by Lee Daniels (Precious). Deadline previously reported that Robert De Niro was on board to play Alabama Governor George Wallace in the film, which is about the historic march from Selma to the state capital in Montgomery.

– Rachel McAdams has signed on to co-star in Woody Allen’s next project. Production of the still untitled film is to begin this summer, likely with a 2011 release date in mind. Owen Wilson and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy are also starring in it.

– Vincenzo Natali’s Sci-fi creature feature, Splice, is to be released on 4th June. Looks like the studio are pushing this to be a big Summer film.

The Flash gets a director

Posted by LiveFor on February 26, 2010

Another day, another DC Comic book film moves ahead. We have the possibility of Goyer and Nolan working on a Superman film and now IESB has the news that Greg Berlanti is the favourite to direct the fastest man alive, The Flash.

Berlanti wrote a draft for the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movieand was going to direct it before Warner Bros went with Martin Campbell.

No word on a script or star so still early days, but this is further along than a Flash film has been in the past. At one point Ryan Reynolds was rumoured to play him, but as he will he Green Lantern I doubt that will happen (it being the same universe). That gives us the splendid oppotunity to put our comic geek heads on (my fave after films) and wonder who would make a good Flash – not sure whether it will be Barry Allen or Wally West. I’m guessing the former. Neil Patrick Harris could be good. Bradley Cooper missed out on Green Lantern so he could be up for it.

Who should play Flash? Suggest some names in the comments and I’ll put a poll together.

Joss Whedon Talks Dr Horrible sequel

Posted by LiveFor on August 6, 2009

DrHorrible_NPH_03“We’re in there plugging. The writers are trying to put something together,” Whedon told MTV News. “We haven’t even decided on a venue. We have a story and we’re working that. We’re just starting with that.”

While he couldn’t share any details about the aforementioned story for the “Dr. Horrible” sequel, how it will relate to the first miniseries or whether Nathan Fillion and Neil Patrick Harris will reprise their roles, Whedon indicated that the lack of information was more due to the early stage of development than anything else.

“Doesn’t matter if it’s big or small, [we’re just] just figuring out the story,” he explained. “We’re really excited about what it is. More, I cannot say.”

Alex Pettyfer is Beastly

Posted by LiveFor on June 24, 2009

The Manhattan-set and modern-day take on Beauty and the Beast tells the story of a handsome rich kid with a mean streak. When he ditches a date, a curse is placed upon him, turning him into everything he hates. The grotesque transformation leaves him with the seemingly impossible task of finding true love to break the ugly spell.

It stars Alex Pettyfer (Stormbreaker, Tormented) as the Beast. Bring back Ron Perlman as Vincent I say.

Beastly also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Mary-Kate Olsen, Neil Patrick Harris and will open on 30th July 2010.
