Predators – First sneak peak and a poster

Posted by LiveFor on March 13, 2010

A bold new chapter in the Predator universe, Predators was shot on location under Rodriguez’s creative auspices at the filmmaker’s Austin-based Troublemaker Studios, and is directed by Nimród Antal. The film stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers – mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members – human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators. In addition to Adrien Brody, the film stars Topher Grace, Alice Braga, and Laurence Fishburne. Co-starring are Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Oleg Taktarov and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali.

Check out the Predator Dog below via io9 and the poster from STYD.

The footage debuted at SXSW.

What do you reckon? Is this the film to bring the Predator back to the forefront of kick-ass monster action?

Predators was written by Alex Litvak & Mike Finch based upon characters created by Jim Thomas & John Thomas. The producers are Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellàn. Twentieth Century Fox releases Predators in theaters everywhere July 9, 2010.

Commented Robert Rodriguez: “My director Nimród Antal and I are excited to bring this first look at Predators to Austin’s SXSW Film Festival, an event that’s become vital to the filmmaking scene. Austin is my home and I’m proud that Predators was conceived and filmed here.”

Said Film Conference & Festival Producer Janet Pierson: “Robert Rodriguez and Troublemaker Studios are a continued fountain of filmmaking creativity and innovation here in Austin, TX. We couldn’t be more proud to present the unveiling of Predators at our 2010 event.”

Additionally, SXSW has revealed the identity of the Super Secret TBA in its SX Fantastic section – the anticipated world premiere of Géla Babluani’s 13 will take place at Midnight on Saturday, March 13 at the Alamo South Lamar Theater.

2010 marks the second year of the SX Fantastic section, a series of mind-bending international midnight films at SXSW programmed by Tim League, founder of the Austin-based Fantastic Fest. Predators – Photos from the shoot. Look at the Predators

Posted by LiveFor on January 16, 2010

Here are some great behind the scenes photos from Nimród Antal directed Predators produced by Robert Rodriguez. You can see Adrien Brody and a whole heap of Predators. Lots more pics here.

The film follows the story of a group of people (soldiers, cops, killers etc) who find themselves stranded on an alien planet and are “hunted by members of a merciless alien race known as Predators.”

The main cast is as follows:
* Royce, a Steve McQueen type – Adrien Brody
* Cuchillo, a Mexican enforcer for a drug cartel who has twin uzis strapped to his back – Danny Trejo
* Nikolai, a bear of a Russian armed with a four-barrel gas-powered rotary machine gun – Oleg Taktarov
* Isabelle, a French woman armed with a sniper rifle – Alice Braga
* Stans, a San Quentin prisoner with a shaved head, a scorpion tatto on his neck and armed with a prison-made knife – Maybe Walter Goggins
* Mombasa, an African member of the Sierra Leone death squad – Mahershalalhashbaz Ali
* Hanzo, a bad ass Japanese Yakuza enforcer
* Edwin, an unassuming man who was formerly on the FBI’s most-wanted list – possibly Topher Grace

So I think we are seeing Mombasa, Nikolai and Royce. Now if we only knew who Laurence Fishburne was playing.

UPDATED: Spider-Man 4 – Marc Webb or Nimrod Antal could direct

Posted by LiveFor on January 14, 2010

UPDATE: Quiet Earth have an interesting rumour that Nimrod Antal may be in the running for the next Spidey film:

The whole story goes like this: Sam Raimi met Nimrod on the Sony lot before his first US film, Vacancy. They clicked, so Sam hired him to direct Armored. Now, Predators is getting some great word-of-mouth around tinsel-town. Warners loves it and now Sam Raimi and Sony want the director back at the studio to helm Spiderman. END OF UPDATE

Only a few days since it was announced that Sam Raimi had left the Spider-Man 4 film – did he walk or was he pushed? Now Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that (500) Days of Summer (check out the LFF review) director Marc Webb is the front-runner to direct the reboot.

The site is reporting that Webb had already met with Sony about the film, which they hope to start production on later this year for a summer 2012 release, in 3-D. It was said that the studio had directors such as James Cameron, David Fincher and Wes Anderson on their wish list, and now it seems Webb is at the top of that list. Here’s an excerpt from the article.

What has Sony execs excited is the fact that (500) Days of Summer introduced a director with a grasp of how to depict the way young people think and feel. This is critical because the Jamie Vanderbilt script covers the formative years of a high school-aged Peter Parker, and that POV is as important as the action sequences.

I’ve still yet to see (500) Days of Summer – yes I know it is a poor show of me – so I can’t really comment too much on whether he is the right choice. As that was dealing with young people he will no doubt be could for the Peter Parker back at school thing. However, is he the right choice for the action pieces of Spider-Man?

I do have a feeling that they are going to try and go for the whole Twilight effect when it comes to the Peter Parker School Days. Who will play Parker though? Zac Efron, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner or another teen heartthrob? Hunter Parrish from Weeds has said he’d like to do it.

I hope they do the right thing and pick someone suited for the role and not just go with the looks.

Is Marcus Webb the right choice to direct Spider-Man 4?

Who would you rather have at the helm – Marc or Nimrod?
