The Random – Patrick Stewart in Mad Max 4, Zac Efron as Spider-Man, Spock as Gershwin, Bourne with no Damon, Kathryn Bigelow wins best Director at DGA Awards, Being Human gets a third series

Posted by LiveFor on February 1, 2010

– Patrick Stewart has mentioned he is working with director George Miller on a film and it isn’t Happy Feet 2. Still very much a rumour via AICN, but it would be very cool to see Stewart in the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max. I’m hoping he plays a bad guy.

– An even bigger rumour (an probably totally made up as it comes from the UK magazine OK) is that Zac Efron could be the new Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4. The article says that Tobey Maguire has picked Zac and that his High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens could be Mary Jane. Zac is closer in age to the Peter Parker back at high school tale they want to tell. Do you think it could be true? Go and vote on who you want to be the new Spidey.

– Zachary Quinto (Star Trek, Heroes) could be down to play George Gershwin and Spielberg may be directing.

– After basically wrapping up the Bourne franchise in Bourne Ultimatum it looks as if the studio want to continue the franchise, but so far they have no tale to tell. Empire have word from Matt Damon that the next Bourne could be a prequel and feature a different actor playing the younger version of Bourne. “There’ll probably be a prequel of some kind with another actor and another director before we do another one,” he said, “just because I think we’re probably another five years away from doing it – we’ve got to get a script…”

The Hurt Locker’s Kathryn Bigelow is the first woman to win the Directors Guild of America award for Outstanding Directorial Effort In Feature Film this weekend, calling it “the most incredible moment of my life.” Does this mean she’ll win the Oscar or will James Cameron get it for Avatar?

– The excellent Being Human (the show about a Vampire, Werewolf and Ghost living together) is currently showing its second series. Word from the BBC is that a third series has already been given the go ahead and the main cast are still in place. Fantastic news. Go watch the new series now.

Arise Sir Jean Luc Picard – Make it so.

Posted by LiveFor on December 31, 2009

Stage and film actor Patrick Stewart (Star Trek, Moby Dick, X-Men) has received a knighthood in the New Year Honours list for his services to drama.

Sir Patrick, born in Mirfield, West Yorkshire and known for a string of theatre and screen roles, said he was “very proud” to be made a knight, adding the theatre has always been his “great joy”.

“In particular the past six years have given me acting opportunities that at one time I could not have imagined possible.

“This is an honour that embraces those actors, directors and creative teams who have in these recent years helped fill my life with inspiration, companionship and sheer fun,” said Sir Patrick.

What are your favourite Patrick Stewart moments?

Xavier would return but Jean Luc Picard would only cameo

Posted by LiveFor on September 8, 2009

ian-mckellen-patrick-stewart-waiting-for-godot-photo-by-sasha-gusov-lst034585Patrick Stewart recently spoke at Dragon*Con over the weekend. While he was there he spoke about his possible appearance in further X-Men and Star Trek films.

Stewart mentioned that he recently co-starred in a production of “Waiting for Godot” with Ian McKellen and the two agreed that they would like continue exploring the relationship between Xavier and McKellen’s X-Men character Magneto. I am still waiting for the X-Men Origins: Magneto film to get off the ground.

Stewart thought that this summer’s reboot of Star Trek was “terrific,” but didn’t see any possibilities for Jean-Luc Picard in the franchise, leaving open only that he would agree to do a cameo in a sequel. Stewart mentioned a proposed final Next Generation film, but after the disappointing box office for Star Trek: Nemesis, it never materialized.

“I feel that I have left behind a legacy as Picard,” he said. “In my head and heart, I’ve moved on.”

The thing is, and apologies for any spoilers, with the whole Trek timeline being smashed apart by Nero in the recent film we have no idea what happened to the character of Jean Luc Picard in the new timeline (although Picard was a major part in the Star Trek Countdown comic book that was a prequel to J J Abrams reboot). Of course if Stewart were to cameo then it would no doubt be from the Next Generation timeline somehow crossing over.

Would you want to see Picard in a new Star Trek film? What do you think happens to Picard in the new timeline?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine – The Weapon XI mystery cleared up

Posted by LiveFor on March 6, 2009

Previously on Live for Films: The X-Men Origins: Wolverine Trailer was released and we saw a bit more of Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson aka Deadpool. There was also a bald mutant guy with a claw on each hand, eye beams and no mouth. In my previous post I said this was Weapon XI played by Scott Adkins so it wouldn’t be Deadpool. I thought he had all the mutant powers grafted onto him. I was half right.

Topless Robot, via their new inside source, have cleared this up and this is what their source told them about Weapon XI and some other mutants we may see (Spoilers Ahead).

• Ryan Reynolds shows up for 10 minutes in the beginning of the film. He’s part of Stryker’s team, and his mutant ability is mostly being a badass with swords, cutting bullets and the like. He is called Wade Wilson during this period.
• Stryker’s big plan (or one of ’em) is to make Weapon XI, a mutant with a shit-ton of mutant powers.
• Stryker uses Wilson’s body as the mutant power receptacle, and because of the scarring (I’m not sure whether that’s from a previous fight, or as a result of all the mutant powers getting packed into him), Weapon XI is played by Scott Adkins. Weapon XI appears for about ten minutes near the film’s end, and has the claws seen above (a la Wolverine), Cyclops’ optic blast, Wraith’s teleportation ability, and Wolverine’s healing factor, too. Also, his mouth is indeed sewn shut.
• Just like Weapon X is given the name “Wolverine,” Weapon XI is given the name “Deadpool.”

Apparently, there’s a cameo by a certain Professor at the end of the movie. When Stryker’s compound is falling apart and Wolverine is leading young Emma Frost and Cyclops out of the building, Cyclops suddenly knows the way out. When they get to the door, standing there — oh yes, standing — is Charles Xavier, controlling wee Cyclops’ mind like he’ll be doing several billion more times in the future. He’s apparently not played by Patrick Stewart, by the way. Weird.

Also: Despite what the trailer would have you believe, most of the other mutants are only cameos as well. Gambit only has about 10 minutes of screentime, for instance. Just like the Marvel Universe, it’s Wolverine’s show.

I think it sucks that Ryan Reynolds doesn’t get to be the wisecracking Merc with a Mouth we know and love. However, it could be a good setup for a Deadpool film. I am glad that it will be Wolverine’s film and not loads of people fighting for time on screen.

Deadpool fans what do you think of the news?
