Ironclad – James Purefoy with a very big sword

Posted by LiveFor on January 9, 2010

Looks like James Purefoy is sticking with the swords. After making Solomon Kane he is now busy at work on Ironclad. He plays the Earl of Pembroke, Capt. William Marshall. He leads a group of Knights Templar who defend Rochester Castle against the tyrannical King John in the 13th century.

Co-star Jason Flemyng described the film as a “medieval Seven Samurai” and “Paul Giamatti, in pure Shoot ‘Em Up snarling-villain mode, facing off against the noble and true James Purefoy.”

It also stars stars Paul Giamatti, Brian Cox, Robert Carlyle, William Moseley, Jason Flemyng, Bob Hoskins, Pete Postlethwaite, and Kate Mara. Directed by Jonathan English.

Sounds like this could be a cool, gritty medieval action film.

The Goon – Eric Powell talks about the film

Posted by LiveFor on November 23, 2009

Eric Powell recently spoke to CBR about his excellent comic book, The Goon. He went on to give an update on the film adaption – The last I heard Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti were possibly voicing The Goon and Frankie.

Hpromised that his deal with director David Fincher and CG animation specialists Blur Studios was moving forward strongly. “I just finished writing the script a few months back, and Blur is working on a lot of test stuff. Fincher is working on a film right now, so we’re waiting for him to get some space so we can start showing some of this stuff off. I’m pretty happy with everything so far. We’ve just got to work to get to the next point. This is a slow, long process.”

While he couldn’t confirm whether or not Fincher would direct the final product or be credited as a producer, Powell said, “David’s going to be heavily involved. I’ve worked with him and Blur quite a bit to get the screenplay together, and it’s been a great experience so far.” He added that this specific deal is keeping him much more involved with the screen life of his property than many other comic creators have gotten.

“I think it’s a choice where, if you’re getting a giant paycheck from a major studio to adapt your book and get Brad Pitt as the lead or whatever, then they kind of take it away from you because they’ve invested so much. But when you’re doing something that’s more about the material and less about a big event, they give you the opportunity to be more involved. And that’s your choice,” Powell said. “Some guys are like, ‘Just give me the check and you do what you want with it.’ But I’ve worked so long on ‘The Goon’ and I’m not creating a new book every month. I’m kind of using the Mike Mignola/Jeff Smith approach where you get your book out there and maintain it. I’ve got a lot invested in this on character, so I wanted to be involved. And they were eager to have me involved, so it worked out very well.”

The Haunted World of El Superbeasto – Red Band Trailer

Posted by LiveFor on August 17, 2009

Rob Zombie presents a hilarious animated adventure of a crime-fighting secret-agent, El Superbeasto. A massive, over-the-hill masked wrestler, El Superbeasto has more interest in exotic dancers than adventure. Despite his disinterest, however, he still manages to get involved with murderous super-intelligent gorillas, Liverpudlian zombies, and Dr. Satan – a manic-depressive mad scientist obsessed with finding the perfect woman. Throughout his unusual escapades, he is joined by his sister, Suzie X, a sexy super-spy adventurer, and her sidekick: a 10-foot tall robot named Marvin, who digs Barry Manilow and Michael Bolton.

Featuring the voices of Paul Giamatti, Geoffrey Lewis, Rosario Dawson and Danny Trejo.

Due out on 22nd September 2009

Elvis to meet the Tall Man in Bubba Nosferatu

Posted by LiveFor on August 14, 2009

ronWe all know Bruce Campbell won’t be returning as Elvis for the new Bubba Nosferatu film and that Ron Perlman (Hellboy) is taking over the role.

Now Fangoria Radio have some news on when the shoot will start and who else will be in the film.

“Well, I have this window that’s about to open,” Perlman revealed. “I’ll be done shooting [his cable series] Sons of Anarchy in September, and we’re hoping to get into production on Bubba in my hiatus between seasons two and three. I just spoke to [actor] Paul Giamatti [set to play Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker] and Don Coscarelli this morning, and we’re just moving the ball down the field, trying to get her done.”

Perlman will likely reteam with his I Sell the Dead co-star Angus Scrimm in BUBBA NOSFERATU; Scrimm is being recruited to play a Boris Karloff-like horror star who Elvis meets up with (pre-HO-TEP) in Los Vegas on the set of a vampire movie. Though production may begin by year’s end, Perlman has not begun scouring through the wealth of Presley archival material out there.

“I try to do things one at a time, not to get ahead of myself too much,” the actor said, “but I’m sure when the moment arrives, I’ll have plenty of time to immerse myself in the King. He’s a character that I’ve been living with my entire life.”

Perlman admitted that he’s thrilled about the BUBBA NOSFERATU opportunity and playing the rock ’n’ roll legend. “Well, he’s so iconic because there was never anyone like him and never since. Elvis created an entire new place for that image. He’s so iconic, he’s mythic. I’m very titillated to see what it’s gonna be like to be inside the white jumpsuit.”

‘Three Stooges’ cast changes again…

Posted by LiveFor on August 10, 2009

The Boston Globe is reporting that the cast of the upcoming Farrelly brothers comedy has undergone another change. Paul Giamatti will take on the role of Larry after Sean Penn dropped out earlier this year. Jim Carrey, who was set to play Curley, has also dropped out. Benicio Del Toro is still on board as Moe, but all these changes beg the question – will this movie ever get made?

The Goon – Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti voicing The Goon and Frankie?

Posted by LiveFor on July 25, 2009

Some more Comic Con news. This time about Eric Powell’s film of The Goon. Apparantly footage was shown and it looked lovely, in a smashing zombie’s around the head kind of way. /film had this to say.

At the moment, Clancy Brown is interested in voicing the Goon, and Paul Giamatti is interested voicing Frankie. We heard their voices in the clips, and they worked beautifully. But since the film isn’t fully greenlit, they’re not signed. The first clip was a ‘public service announcement’ from the Goon, who explained how to deal with a zombie, or slackjaw. “Pick up a hammer or a large wrench, maybe a rusty mailbox and…bash the fucker’s head in!” Then we saw Frankie at a bar with a slackjaw, and got a little dialogue from Giamatti complaining about getting a drink. It’s fun, vulgar and just dark enough.

I think that voice casting is just spot on and I hope they get signed for the feature. Clancy Brown’s voice is just fantastic plus he was the Kurgen!

How about Tom Cruise as the Third Stooge?

Posted by LiveFor on June 19, 2009

With the recent news that Sean Penn was taking a year off from acting this means there is a place within the the Farrelly Brothers Three Stooges film. Penn was playing Larry opposite Jim Carrey as Curly (he is apparantly going to pile on the pounds for the role) and Benicio Del Toro as Moe.

Who could join Carrey and Del Toro? Names such as Paul Giamatti, Zach Galifianakis, Matt Damon, Larry David, Ben Stiller, Jack Nicholson and Simon Pegg have been mentioned.

However, another name put forward is Tom Cruise and out of all of them I think I like that idea the most – although the whole idea of the Three Stooges film leaves me feeling a little cold. He was great in Tropic Thunder when he played quite a slapstick character so he has the skills.

How do you feel about the Stooges film? Who would be the best person to fill Sean Penn’s shoes?

Cold Souls – Trailer

Posted by LiveFor on June 19, 2009

Is your soul weighing you down? Paul Giamatti has found a solution! In the surreal comedy Cold Souls, Paul Giamatti plays an actor named… Paul Giamatti. Stumbling upon an article in The New Yorker about a high-tech company that extracts, deep-freezes and stores people’s souls, Paul very well might have found the key to happiness for which he’s been searching. But, complications arise when he is the unfortunate victim of “soul-trafficking.” Giamatti’s journey takes him all the way to Russia in hopes of retrieving his stolen soul from an ambitious but talentless soap-opera actress. Balancing a tightrope between deadpan humor & pathos, and reality & fantasy, Cold Souls is a true soul searching comedy. Also starring David Strathairn, Dana Korzun and Emily Watson.

Cold Souls – Cool poster for Giamatti’s latest film

Posted by LiveFor on June 16, 2009

It has been a while since I last posted anything on this film (check out some clips from the film), but now we have this excellent poster.

Paralyzed with anxiety over an upcoming role, Paul Giamatti stumbles upon a high-tech company promising to alleviate suffering by deep-freezing souls. Giamatti enlists their services, intending to reinstate his soul once he survives the performance. But complications ensue when a soul-trafficking mule borrows Giamatti’s stored soul for an ambitious, but unfortunately talentless, soap-opera actress.
