Robert Downey Jr talks Gravity and Sherlock Holmes 2

Posted by LiveFor on May 4, 2010

Robert Downey Jr. has confirmed to MTV that Alfonso Cuaron’s 3D sci-fi-thriller “Gravity” is his next immediate film.

Filming will take place this Summer in London and then he will move on to the Sherlock Holmes sequel in Autumn with Guy Ritchie. That will start off in London, but will move to Europe. “Yes, I think we’ll be abroad. A bit of Paris, a bit of Switzerland by the end, if I’m not mistaken.”

No news on whether Rachel McAdams will be back for the sequel. “It’s hard to say. Because Irene Adler only appeared in one of the stories of Doyle’s reservoir of activities. But we’ll find out quickly.”

Who do you think should play Moriarty?

The Random – Wolverine 2, Marco Polo, Green Lantern, The Shadow, The Smurfs, De Niro in Dark Fields, Jackman in Selma, Rachel McAdams gets a Woody, Splice

Posted by LiveFor on March 4, 2010

– Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (X-Men, The Usual Suspects) has finished his draft of the Wolverine sequel, which he began writing in August. Shooting is currently expected to commence in January of 2011. It is going to be set in Japan and no word yet on who will direct although Hugh Jackman will be back as Logan. I just hope the claws are better than the first film.

– Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend,” “Constantine) will direct a feature about Marco Polo for Warner Bros. Pictures reports Variety – More fantasy/adventure epic than serious biopic drama, the film will be most set in “the Orient of our imagination”

– Test shooting on the Green Lantern has started shooting in New Orleans. Apparantly it involves a stunt car.

– David Slade (30 Days of Night) could direct the Sam Raimi produced film adaptation of classic pulp character The Shadow at 20th Century Fox reports Latino Review.

– Dr Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris, is to be the live action star in The Smurfs movie. I feel slightly more interested in the project…but only a little.

Robert De Niro joins Bradley Cooper in The Dark Fields. The film is about ‘a down-and-out Gotham writer (Cooper) who comes into possession of a designer drug that gives him newfound intelligence and success‘. According to Variety, De Niro will be playing the role of the brilliant financial mogul that’s chasing after Bradley Cooper’s character. The film will begin shooting in May in Philadelphia.

– Hugh Jackman will be starring in Selma to be directed by Lee Daniels (Precious). Deadline previously reported that Robert De Niro was on board to play Alabama Governor George Wallace in the film, which is about the historic march from Selma to the state capital in Montgomery.

– Rachel McAdams has signed on to co-star in Woody Allen’s next project. Production of the still untitled film is to begin this summer, likely with a 2011 release date in mind. Owen Wilson and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy are also starring in it.

– Vincenzo Natali’s Sci-fi creature feature, Splice, is to be released on 4th June. Looks like the studio are pushing this to be a big Summer film.

Sherlock Holmes, 2009 – Movie Review

Posted by LiveFor on December 29, 2009

Director: Guy Ritchie
Starring: Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Mark Strong, Rachel McAdams

This review by Pamela Fruendt. Warning – Spoilers ahead

SHERLOCK HOLMES was supposed to be an outstanding film. Good fun? Yes. Great film? Not even close.

Robert Downy Jr. gives an engaging perfomance as London’s master sleuth while Jude Law is the perfect foil as Dr. Watson. Their friendship – the good, the bad and the ugly – is quite enjoyable as is the story of the women they love. Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler does her part justice, but I get the feeling most of her lines never made it to the final cut. That’s a shame because she is magical. Kelly Reilly as Watson’s love, Mary Morstan, plays her role with just the right amount of feeling towards Watson and watchful restraint towards Holmes.

Director Guy Ritche’s fever-pitched fight sequences are well-represented. Good guys. Bad guys. Explosions abound. People dangle and slide and nearly die multiple ways. Moriarty is introduced so you know someone is thinking sequel. And the dog, that wonderful dog…I want what he’s having.

So where does SHERLOCK HOLMES fail? As much as I enjoyed all that male bonding between Holmes and Watson, it just wasn’t enough to carry the film. We need a substantial plot for that to happen and somehow Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong) seen as a brutal serial killer running loose in London doesn’t quite do it for me. Oh, and don’t forget the magic potion that allows the killer to feign death. Attemping to poison members of Parliment was an interesting twist but, allowing for Sherlock and Watson’s friendship, I kept thinking I’ve seen this so many times before.

Should you see SHERLOCK HOLMES? If you want to have a good time watching the boys play, go for it. Just remember when Lord Blackwood rises from the grave on his way to Parliment…it’s time to refill your drinks and get more popcorn. By the time you get back to your seats the good stuff should be starting again. Besides, the end credits are amazing. I just wish the producers had done more with their $80 million…like giving the public a story worthy of our intelligence, not to mention the actors salaries.

Warner Bros.
run time: 128 min.
rating: PG-13

my rating: 5/10

Black Cat in Spider-Man 4

Posted by LiveFor on November 11, 2009

Black_Cat_and_Kitty_by_AdamHughesHi all. Phil hasn’t been feeling too well for the past few days so he has asked me to step in for a little while. Hope I do okay. Call me Ishmael!

Recent news has mentioned that Black Cat may be featuring in the fourth Sam Raimi Spider-Man film. The original news had Rachel McAdams trying out for the role – funnily enough Live for Films had McAdams in a poll as to who would play Catwoman in the next Batman film. I’ll come back to that in a bit.

Now the great Hey U Guys have confirmation that Black Cat will be in the film, but that a few actresses have been trying out for the role – I vote Eliza Dushku.

HUG also have news on the characters arc in the film:
Apparently she is the daughter of the new editor of The Daily Bugle, a man who is also referred to as ‘a viper’ (more on this in a second). She falls in love with Peter Parker, and uncovers his true identity. Her father then dies, and Hardy becomes a threat to Peter Parker (presumably as The Black Cat).

This doesn’t fit exactly with the comic book incarnation of Hardy, who is the daughter of a cat burglar, but the character’s interaction with Peter Parker is fairly close to that in the comics.

The source also implied that the word viper has some relevance. We’ve been trying to work out what, and we’re at a loss. Looking through the pantheon of marvel characters the only ones known as ‘The Viper’ are villains in Captain America stories, so it’s unlikely that it’s the name of a baddie, although our source did suggest that Felicia’s father is a villain as well as the editor of The Daily Bugle.

Interesting news indeed. Not sure who the Viper could relate to. Spidey does not have many snake related bad guys but I am no expert in that side of things. Viper..Vulture..Venom? Anymore Vs?

Black Cat is a cat burglar in the Marvel Universe (I think she had some kind of luck based power as well, but I could be confusing that with one of the X-Men), as is Catwoman in the DC Universe.

The story, characters and plot have still to be set for the next Batman film. Catwoman was one of the many characters to be rumoured to be in it. I am wondering whether the news that a similar character appearing in the Marvel film will have an effect on the next Batman film. Does an early appearance by Black Cat knock Catwoman out of the running? Would that be a cat fight anyone else would want to see?

How do you feel about Black Cat appearing in the next Spider-Man film? Any idea who Viper could be? Who would be good to play Black Cat?

Sherlock Holmes sequel in the works and Brad Pitt may be Moriarty

Posted by LiveFor on September 22, 2009

pittGuy Ritchie’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes film already has sequel plans. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Business blog, a sequel to Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes is already in the works, with Brad Pitt in negotiations to come aboard. This will be the first time they have worked together since Snatch.

I mentioned back in August that there was a rumour knocking about that Pitt was going to feature at the end of the new film as Moriarty. The studio dismissed that at the time. However, the news today is that Pitt would play longtime Holmes enemy Moriarty in the proposed sequel, althought a deal has not been reached yet. Kieran and Michele Mulroney were being brought on to write the sequel. It was said that the original cast would likely return, as might Guy Ritchie return to direct.

Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, Kelly Reilly, Eddie Marsan and will open on 25th December.
