Heavy Metal – Who is writing and directing the sci-fi anthology?

Posted by LiveFor on March 11, 2010

Been a while since there has been any movement on the new Heavy Metal sci-fi anthology animated movie. Now author Neal Asher (check out my interview with him) has some more info on who will be directing and writing the various sections for the film – some top directors involved. I wonder if Cameron’s would have any ties to the Avatar universe?

Pre-release Information – A $50 million budget 3D CG animated movie based on the magazine. This probably won’t have any stories from the first 1981 movie, however like the first one, it will feature around seven or eight different stories. Each segment will be directed by a different person. The title to this movie hasn’t been chosen yet. This current title is just a placeholder.

Main Crew:
Executive Producer – David Fincher and James Cameron
Producer – Kevin Eastman and Tim Miller
Director – David Fincher (1 segment)
Director – James Cameron (1 segment)
Director – Zack Snyder (1 segment, a story that Kevin Eastman wrote)
Director – Gore Verbinski (1 segment)
Director – Mark Osborne (1 segment, a comedy with Jack Black)
Director – Tim Miller (1 segment)
Director – Jeff Fowler (1 segment)
Director – Kevin Eastman (tentatively 1 segment)
Director – Guillermo del Toro (tentatively 1 segment)
Director – Rob Zombie (tentatively 1 segment)

Writer – Marc Laidlaw (1 segment)
Writer – Steve Niles (1 segment)
Writer – Joe Haldeman (1 segment)
Writer – Neal Asher (1 segment)
Writer – Kevin Eastman (1 segment, a story that Zack Snyder will direct)
? – Jack Black (a comedy segment that Mark Osborne will direct. No details on how he’s involved, but most likely will be an actor)
? – Jhonen Vasquez (no details on how he’s involved, but most likely will be a writer)

Which of the writers and directors excites you the most?

Halloween 2 – Alternate ending for the Rob Zombie sequel

Posted by LiveFor on December 14, 2009

An alternate ending featured on the upcoming January 12 DVD and Blu-Ray release of Halloween II.

What did you think of that? Better or worse than the ending used in the cinema release?

Halloween 3D – No Rob Zombie

Posted by LiveFor on August 31, 2009

michael-myers-mask-1“Halloween II” may not have won the box office this weekend, but Weinstein Co. is taking a lesson from the movie that did as it prepares a sequel for next summer.

The independent studio’s co-Chairman Bob Weinstein said today that the 3-D sequel, titled, appropriately enough, “Halloween 3D,” is in development.

The investment it takes to shoot movies in digital 3-D has proved particularly lucrative for horror films. For “The Final Destination,” this weekend’s No. 1 movie, theaters with at least one 3-D screen earned 3.25 times as much as those that showed the movie in 2-D only, according to distributor Warner Bros. That’s substantially higher than for other recent releases. The equivalent 3-D multiple for last month’s “G-Force,” for instance, was only 1.7 on its first weekend. For July’s “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” it was 1.4 andm for June’s “Up” it was 2.2. January horror flick “My Bloody Valentine” earned 6.4 times as much from 3-D theaters as it did from 2-D on its opening weekend.

Weinstein said Rob Zombie, who directed “Halloween II” and 2007’s reboot of the 31-year-old horror series, won’t return for “Halloween 3-D.” He said the studio is in negotiations with a new director, whom he declined to name, who has experience in horror and has a “different take” on the franchise.

Do you think a 3rd Halloween movie will work? Should it follow on from Rob Zombie’s sequel or go its own way? Does it need to be in 3D?

Rob Zombie tackles The Blob

Posted by LiveFor on August 28, 2009

the-blob-remakeAfter reviving the “Halloween” series of films, Rob Zombie will next reinvent The Blob according to Variety.

Zombie will write, direct and produce a remake of the 1958 horror classic that launched the career of Steve McQueen. It was remade in 1988 and starred Kevin Dillon and Shawnee Smith. If memory serves it had a great death with someone being pulled down a plughole.

Production will begin next spring. It will be R rated and have a budget of $30 million.

Zombie’s deal to make “The Blob” his next film comes as Dimension opens “Halloween II,” the Zombie-directed sequel to his 2007 hit “Halloween.”

In the original “Blob,” an object from space crashes into a field, containing a red blob-like substance that absorbs the humans it contacts and grows exponentially. While Zombie was a fan of the original, he’s formulated a decidedly different take that he would not reveal.

“My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing — that’s the first thing I want to change,” Zombie said. “That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now.”

“I’d been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space,” Zombie said. “I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to.”

Zombie has begun writing. He’ll follow the release of “Halloween II” with a new album and tour this fall and get the script done at that time.

The questions is if they are not going to use a big red blobby thing for the Blob what on Earth will they use?

Are you ready for another remake of The Blob? Should it be a horror comedy or hard sci-fi horror?

The Haunted World of El Superbeasto – Red Band Trailer

Posted by LiveFor on August 17, 2009

Rob Zombie presents a hilarious animated adventure of a crime-fighting secret-agent, El Superbeasto. A massive, over-the-hill masked wrestler, El Superbeasto has more interest in exotic dancers than adventure. Despite his disinterest, however, he still manages to get involved with murderous super-intelligent gorillas, Liverpudlian zombies, and Dr. Satan – a manic-depressive mad scientist obsessed with finding the perfect woman. Throughout his unusual escapades, he is joined by his sister, Suzie X, a sexy super-spy adventurer, and her sidekick: a 10-foot tall robot named Marvin, who digs Barry Manilow and Michael Bolton.

Featuring the voices of Paul Giamatti, Geoffrey Lewis, Rosario Dawson and Danny Trejo.

Due out on 22nd September 2009
