Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief – New character posters for Zeus, Hera or is it Medusa, Hades and Persephone

Posted by LiveFor on January 22, 2010

Here are a few new international posters for the adaption of the first Percy Jackson book.

To be honest, these are not the best posters I have seen. Sean Bean as Zeus looks so old and the armour he is wearing reminds me of that shiny armour at the end of The Running Man the wrestler guy is wearing.

Hera is played by the lovely Erica Cerra from Eureka, but in the poster below you wouldn’t have a clue and the Cyclops style visor just looks odd….whoa whoa whoa Sweet Child of Mine! I think they’ve got the poster named wrong – it actually looks like Uma Thurman as Medusa and would tie in with the character in that her ‘hair’ is covered as are her eyes which, as we all know, turns you to stone. Bit of a mistake on the PR department for the film. Anyone else with me on this?Steve Coogan as Hades (above) is the only one who looks any good although Rosario Dawson as Persephone looks as gorgeous as always.

All of them have the usual lazy photoshop styling about them and it is a shame as some of the previous posters for the film have looked excellent. Mind you the Uma Thurman as Medusa poster was just dreadful. What do you think of the news posters? If you could do better send them to me.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief – Cool new character posters and some photos

Posted by LiveFor on January 14, 2010

I really like these character posters. Dark and moody and not just a big head!

Latino Review posted them and for those who haven’t read the book here is the synopsis:

It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson’s Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they’re not happy: Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy’s mother. As Percy finds himself caught between angry and battling gods, he and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save Percy’s mom, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves

Directed by Chris Columbus, it stars Logan Lerman as Percy, Sean Bean as Zeus, Steve Coogan as Hades, Kevin McKidd as Poseidon, Uma Thurman as Medusa, Rosario Dawson as Persephone and Pierce Brosnan.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief – International Trailer

Posted by LiveFor on November 18, 2009

Here is the new trailer for the Percy Jackson film. It is based on a series of kids books by Rick Riordan. My son loves them and I’ve read the first one. It is a good kids book, but does follow the Harry Potter template to some extent. It is also a tad predictable, but that is probably down to age and having read many other books.

However, there are more monsters, Gods and smiting in the Percy Jackson books. Kids dig that. I suppose you could also compare it to a modern day Clash of the Titans.

This new trailer gives you a better idea of what the story is about, plus it shows some of the creatures including Uma Thurman as Medusa (apparantly iPhones have superceded shiny shields!). The trailer also shows Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Rosario Dawson as Persephone and Logan Lerman as Percy. However, the film also features Kevin McKidd, Sean Bean, Steve Coogan, Joe Pantoliano and Catherine Keener so there are plenty of talented actors involved.

Have a watch of the trailer and let me know what you think – hit or miss?

Trouble-prone teen Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out school – but that’s the least of his problems. The gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters seem to have walked out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology texts and into his life – and they’re not happy. Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now, Percy and his friends must embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true thief, save Percy’s family, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Eureka! Erica Cerra is a Goddess to Percy Jackson

Posted by LiveFor on September 2, 2009

erica-cerraEureka’s Erica Cerra is starring in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. She will star alongside Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd, Catherine Keener, Melina Kanakaredes, Steve Coogan and Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson.

Directed by Harry Potter veteran Chris Columbus, the film is a fantasy based on the first book in Rick Riordan’s popular series. My son is loving them and has zipped through the first five books over the past few weeks.

In the story, a young modern-day boy named Percy Jackson learns that he’s the half-human/half-god son of Poseidon (McKidd) and embarks on a journey of adventure and self-discovery that also involves warring gods. Cerra plays Hera, the goddess of marriage and wife of Zeus (Bean), the god of lightning.

“I’m a big Harry Potter fan,” said Cerra speaking to Sci-Fi Wire “I have all the books. I’ve seen all the movies a billion and one times. When I heard what Percy Jackson was about I read it and pushed, pushed, pushed to be in the movie. So I was absolutely thrilled when I got a role, and then I was sitting in a room with Sean Bean and Kevin McKidd and Melina Kanakaredes, who plays Athena. It was a wonderful experience, and I’m a very big fan of Chris Columbus, so that was really cool as well. In the novels, in the other stories, Hera and Zeus show up to help Percy, so hopefully they will also in the [sequel] scripts.”

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is due out on 12th February 2010.

The Haunted World of El Superbeasto – Red Band Trailer

Posted by LiveFor on August 17, 2009

Rob Zombie presents a hilarious animated adventure of a crime-fighting secret-agent, El Superbeasto. A massive, over-the-hill masked wrestler, El Superbeasto has more interest in exotic dancers than adventure. Despite his disinterest, however, he still manages to get involved with murderous super-intelligent gorillas, Liverpudlian zombies, and Dr. Satan – a manic-depressive mad scientist obsessed with finding the perfect woman. Throughout his unusual escapades, he is joined by his sister, Suzie X, a sexy super-spy adventurer, and her sidekick: a 10-foot tall robot named Marvin, who digs Barry Manilow and Michael Bolton.

Featuring the voices of Paul Giamatti, Geoffrey Lewis, Rosario Dawson and Danny Trejo.

Due out on 22nd September 2009

Rosario Dawson to wear mask in Sin City 2

Posted by LiveFor on March 5, 2009

Superhero Hype have this little bit of confirmation from Rosario Dawson about the progress of Sin City 2.

Q: Jamie King said she’s read the “Sin City 2” script. Have you?
Rosario Dawson: No, I have not. She’s working with Frank [Miller] to possibly produce something together. I just talked to Frank about it though and said he finished it a couple of months ago so I’m really excited to get it going. Supposedly it’s going to happen in 2009.

Q: Did he tell you anything specifically about the script?
Dawson: I get to wear a mask in this one. Is that specific enough?

Explicit Ills – Trailer B

Posted by LiveFor on February 27, 2009

Explicit Ills is actor turned helmer, Mark Webber’s directorial debut. The film follows four inter-connecting stories revolving around love, drugs and poverty in Philadelphia. Babo, an asthma ridden seven-year-old lives with his mother in the badlands of North Philly. His neighbor Demetri transforms himself into a well-read “smart” boy in order to get the girl. Michelle, a well-off art student is quick to fall into a drug induced love-affair with her dealer Jacob. Kaleef and Jill’s marriage is strained as they pursue their dreams of bringing “produce to the people” as their teenage son Heslin focuses on competing in the World’s Strongest Man competition. The lyrical and moving drama finds its core as all members come together in their fight for justice and self-discovery.

Written and directed by Mark Webber. Starring Paul Dano, Rosario Dawson, Lou Taylor

Explicit Ills – Trailer

Posted by LiveFor on February 12, 2009

In the harsh streets of Philadelphia, the lives of strangers intersect in a bold and moving semi-autobiographical tale that crosscuts between the many people (adults, teenagers, and children alike)who struggle in the face of poverty, drugs and the human connection.

A story of compassion, even in the shoddiest of landscapes, Explicit Ills stars some of the fastest rising stars in Hollywood (Paul Dano, Rosario Dawson, Lou Taylor Pucci) whose characters’ heartfelt aspirations tell a heart-wrenching tale that eventually finds promise, pride and hope. Directed and written by Mark Webber.

Will Smith to play Barack Obama

Posted by LiveFor on December 5, 2008

Movieweb spoke to Will Smith and Rosario Dawson about their work on Seven Pounds. However, during the conversation Dawson let slip that Smith may be playing Obama at some point.

Smith said that he was definitely considering playing the president elect sometime in the future, and then remarked that his ears made him a lock for the role. It’s a joke he has shared many times. He explained that a Barack Obama biopic excited him because the film, “Already has one heck of an ending!” For anyone that is expecting to see this within the next couple of years might have to hold their breath, though. If Mr. Smith has it his way, he’d want to wait eight years before producing and starring in a film about America’s first black president. He also commented that he’d want to wait until at least six months after Obama was out of office before releasing it, which he felt should have been done with Oliver Stone’s W.

Will Smith as Obama? Good thing or bad thing?
