MacGruber – Poster

Posted by LiveFor on April 2, 2010

Only one American hero has earned the rank of Green Beret, Navy SEAL and Army Ranger. Just one operative has been awarded 16 purple hearts, 3 Congressional Medals of Honor and 7 presidential medals of bravery. And only one guy is man enough to still sport a mullet. In 2010, Will Forte brings Saturday Night Live’s clueless soldier of fortune to the big screen in the action comedy MacGruber.

In the 10 years since his fiancée was killed, special op MacGruber has sworn off a life of fighting crime with his bare hands. But when he learns that his country needs him to find a nuclear warhead that’s been stolen by his sworn enemy, Dieter Von Cunth (Val Kilmer), MacGruber figures he’s the only one tough enough for the job.

Assembling an elite team of experts—Lt. Dixon Piper (Ryan Phillippe) and Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig)—MacGruber will navigate an army of assassins to hunt down Cunth and bring him to justice. His methods may be unorthodox. His crime scenes may get messy. But if you want the world saved right, you call in MacGruber.

Check out the trailer.

Directed by Jorma Taccone and starring Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, Powers Boothe, Maya Rudolph and Val Kilmer.

Due out on 21st May 2010.

Captain America – Have Ryan Phillippe and Kiera Knightley been cast? A woman on a bus thinks so

Posted by LiveFor on March 23, 2010

With the news that Chris Evans has been cast as Captain America there are still a number of roles open in The First Avenger: Captain America.

The always excellent Bleeding Cool have an interesting tidbit of info, which is also quite funny:

“one woman on the 91 bus to London’s West End, was yammering away on her iPhone saying she’s moving on from the Green Zone movie to work on this new Captain America thing, filming soon in London. And that both Ryan Phillppe and Keira Knightley have been cast in the movie.”

It could be true, it could be a misunderstanding, but it is interesting. Phillippe was rumoured to be auditioning for Cap, but if Evans does have the role does this mean Phillippe could be playing Bucky? Knightley was also in the running to play Peggy so she may well have that part.

Take it with a pinch of salt, but I love these kind of unusual sources. Was anyone else on that bus?

Captain America – Channing Tatum may be a lock and female lead may soon be cast

Posted by LiveFor on March 16, 2010

After the news that Ryan Phillippe was auditioning for Captain America another name surfaces and it was one that was mentioned way back when the film was first mentioned. Yep, Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe, Fighting, Dear John) has supposedly been approached by Marvel to play Steve Rogers.

Deadline have the news and they say “I would be surprised if he went in to test for the role., now that he’s become a bankable commodity. It’ll come down to Marvel making an offer, and Tatum either accepting it or rejecting it.”

I have to disagree with their comment as I am sure he would still have to audition for the role along with Phillippe, Chris Evans and the rest. His last two films (Dear John and G.I. Joe) may have made money, but many will agree that he still has yet to truly show his acting chops. As well as being buff Captain America has to ooze charisma. He is also a master strategist and Tatum just doesn’t sit well with me.

The trouble is, with The Wolfman being a flop I am just not sure how much that will have effected director Joe Johnston’s rights to make decisions.

Deadline also have the news that Keira Knightly and Emily Blunt are in the running to play the female lead of Peggy – Blunt missed out on playing the Black Widow in Iron Man 2 due to commitments on Gulliver’s Travels.

Could Captain America be the film were Marvel Studios loses its current run of coolness? Is Tatum the one to play Cap or is it just wrong wrong wrong?

Come on already, make a decision please Marvel Studios.

Captain America – Hey guess what…he’s still not cast

Posted by LiveFor on March 16, 2010

After Hugo Weaving was recently announced to possibly be playing the evil Red Skull in the Captain America film news is out today that Steve Rogers has still not been cast.

Instead yet another name has been added to the list and this name is Ryan Phillippe (Way of the Gun, Franklyn, MacGruber, Breach, Crash).

HitFix have the news that Phillippe has joined the possible Steves including Mike Vogel (Cloverfield, She’s Out of My League), Garret Hedlund (Tron Legacy), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, The Losers).

I am getting a bit fed up with all the maybes, but I’m taking it as a god good sign that Marvel Studios want to get Cap just right for the film.

Do you think Phillippe would make a good Captain America?

MacGruber heading to the big screen.

Posted by LiveFor on July 8, 2009

Another Saturday Night Live skit has found its way to the big screen. According to Production Weekly, Jorma Taccone (Lonely Island, Land of the Lost) will direct the MacGruber film.

Ryan Phillippe and Val Kilmer are in talks to star in the spoof of MacGyver.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Will Forte and Kristen Wiig are reprising their roles from the skits for the Paramount and Relativity Media production.

The MacGruber sketches starred Forte as MacGyver’s son with Wiig as an assistant who always find themselves, along with that week’s guest star, in a control room with a ticking bomb about to go off. MacGruber gets sidelined by personal issues, and the bomb goes off.

Forte and Taccone wrote the parodies with John Solomon. The trio wrote the feature script, which takes the story in a completely different direction from the skits yet remains strangely familiar: The legendary, much decorated MacGruber is pulled out of retirement as a monk in Ecuador by a colonel, who needs him once more to fight on behalf of his country. This time the mission involves going up against the evil Cunth, who has a nuclear warhead; the mission is personal because Cunth killed MacGruber’s bride.

The movie version would see Phillippe playing Piper, an Army officer forced to pair up with a reluctant MacGruber. Kilmer would be Cunth.

MacGruber movie is fast-tracked and at this stage looks like it could make it to the screen before a MacGyver movie, which is in development at New Line.

Production will begin next month in New Mexico.

I was a fan of McGyver, but never saw much of MacGruber. Are you excited to see a MacGruber film? Will it work? Cunth! What a name.

Here is what Richard Dean Anderson thinks of the character.

Silk Spectre, Gambit and Franklyn are in The Bang Bang Club

Posted by LiveFor on March 9, 2009

“Watchmen” star Malin Akerman (Silk Spectre – Watchmen) and Ryan Phillippe (Franklyn, Way of the Gun) will star in indie drama “The Bang Bang Club,” set in apartheid-era South Africa.
South African documaker Steven Silver wrote the script based on a memoir by Greg Marinovich and Joao Silva and will direct.

Akerman will star as a photo editor of the so-called Bang Bang Club, four combat war photogs — Marinovich (Phillippe), Kevin Carter (Taylor Kitsch – Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Ken Oosterbroek and Silva — whose photographs captured the final bloody days of white rule in South Africa.

Film is a Canada/South Africa co-production and will be distributed worldwide by E1 Entertainment.

Foundry Films’ Daniel Iron (“Away From Her”) is producing alongside Out of Africa’s Lance Samuels and Adam Friedlander. Telefilm Canada, Ontario Media Development Corp., the Harold Greenberg Fund and Instinctive/Riot Entertainment are financing.

Lensing will begin next month in and around Johannesburg.
