Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief – New character posters for Zeus, Hera or is it Medusa, Hades and Persephone

Posted by LiveFor on January 22, 2010

Here are a few new international posters for the adaption of the first Percy Jackson book.

To be honest, these are not the best posters I have seen. Sean Bean as Zeus looks so old and the armour he is wearing reminds me of that shiny armour at the end of The Running Man the wrestler guy is wearing.

Hera is played by the lovely Erica Cerra from Eureka, but in the poster below you wouldn’t have a clue and the Cyclops style visor just looks odd….whoa whoa whoa Sweet Child of Mine! I think they’ve got the poster named wrong – it actually looks like Uma Thurman as Medusa and would tie in with the character in that her ‘hair’ is covered as are her eyes which, as we all know, turns you to stone. Bit of a mistake on the PR department for the film. Anyone else with me on this?Steve Coogan as Hades (above) is the only one who looks any good although Rosario Dawson as Persephone looks as gorgeous as always.

All of them have the usual lazy photoshop styling about them and it is a shame as some of the previous posters for the film have looked excellent. Mind you the Uma Thurman as Medusa poster was just dreadful. What do you think of the news posters? If you could do better send them to me.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief – Cool new character posters and some photos

Posted by LiveFor on January 14, 2010

I really like these character posters. Dark and moody and not just a big head!

Latino Review posted them and for those who haven’t read the book here is the synopsis:

It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson’s Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they’re not happy: Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy’s mother. As Percy finds himself caught between angry and battling gods, he and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save Percy’s mom, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves

Directed by Chris Columbus, it stars Logan Lerman as Percy, Sean Bean as Zeus, Steve Coogan as Hades, Kevin McKidd as Poseidon, Uma Thurman as Medusa, Rosario Dawson as Persephone and Pierce Brosnan.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief – International Trailer

Posted by LiveFor on November 18, 2009

Here is the new trailer for the Percy Jackson film. It is based on a series of kids books by Rick Riordan. My son loves them and I’ve read the first one. It is a good kids book, but does follow the Harry Potter template to some extent. It is also a tad predictable, but that is probably down to age and having read many other books.

However, there are more monsters, Gods and smiting in the Percy Jackson books. Kids dig that. I suppose you could also compare it to a modern day Clash of the Titans.

This new trailer gives you a better idea of what the story is about, plus it shows some of the creatures including Uma Thurman as Medusa (apparantly iPhones have superceded shiny shields!). The trailer also shows Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Rosario Dawson as Persephone and Logan Lerman as Percy. However, the film also features Kevin McKidd, Sean Bean, Steve Coogan, Joe Pantoliano and Catherine Keener so there are plenty of talented actors involved.

Have a watch of the trailer and let me know what you think – hit or miss?

Trouble-prone teen Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out school – but that’s the least of his problems. The gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters seem to have walked out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology texts and into his life – and they’re not happy. Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now, Percy and his friends must embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true thief, save Percy’s family, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Owen Wilson is Marmaduke. I fear another Garfield

Posted by LiveFor on November 3, 2009

OwenWilsonHanselZoolanderOwen Wilson has decided to go from acting opposite a dog in Marley & Me to actually being a dog. He has joined the live-action/CG movie Marmaduke, and will voice the rascally Great Dane in Fox’s adaptation of the long-running comic strip. I put my head in my hands in despair. This does not bode well.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story follows a family named the Winslows who move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog Marmaduke, a slobbery pooch who creates chaos wherever he goes.

In adapting the strip created in 1954 by Brad Anderson and Phil Leeming, the script by Tim Rasmussen and Vince Di Meglio sees Marmaduke navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams and overcome a fall from grace.

Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy play the humans, while Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, Damon Wayans, Marlon Wayans supply the voices.

Whoa. Hold up. The Wayans brothers are in it so my misgivings were misplaced. This is bound to be comedy gold! —disengage sarcasm

Tom Dey is directing, and John Davis is producing the family comedy, which has a June 2010 release date.

Eureka! Erica Cerra is a Goddess to Percy Jackson

Posted by LiveFor on September 2, 2009

erica-cerraEureka’s Erica Cerra is starring in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. She will star alongside Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd, Catherine Keener, Melina Kanakaredes, Steve Coogan and Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson.

Directed by Harry Potter veteran Chris Columbus, the film is a fantasy based on the first book in Rick Riordan’s popular series. My son is loving them and has zipped through the first five books over the past few weeks.

In the story, a young modern-day boy named Percy Jackson learns that he’s the half-human/half-god son of Poseidon (McKidd) and embarks on a journey of adventure and self-discovery that also involves warring gods. Cerra plays Hera, the goddess of marriage and wife of Zeus (Bean), the god of lightning.

“I’m a big Harry Potter fan,” said Cerra speaking to Sci-Fi Wire “I have all the books. I’ve seen all the movies a billion and one times. When I heard what Percy Jackson was about I read it and pushed, pushed, pushed to be in the movie. So I was absolutely thrilled when I got a role, and then I was sitting in a room with Sean Bean and Kevin McKidd and Melina Kanakaredes, who plays Athena. It was a wonderful experience, and I’m a very big fan of Chris Columbus, so that was really cool as well. In the novels, in the other stories, Hera and Zeus show up to help Percy, so hopefully they will also in the [sequel] scripts.”

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is due out on 12th February 2010.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian – Darth Vader?

Posted by LiveFor on April 28, 2009

The first TV spot introduces more of the film’s characters including its “villains”. Now with added Dark Lord of the Sith and Oscar the Grouch.

Ben Stiller and Darth Vader. Not sure where this one is going. My son enjoyed the first Night at the Museam and he is a big Star Wars fan so he’s going to love this.

As for me. I like a bit of Star Wars. Stiller is great in some things and not so great in others. This sequel will probably be much like the first.

Directed by Shawn Levy

Starring Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, Hank Azaria, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan.

Due out on 22nd May, 2009

Armando Iannucci’s In the Loop -Trailer featuring many characters from The Thick of It

Posted by LiveFor on March 14, 2009

Britain and America; friends and allies as far back as anyone can remember. Both the US President and UK Prime Minister fancy a war but not everyone agrees including US Assistant Secretary for Diplomacy, US Army General (James Gandolfini) and a floundering British Minister Simon Foster (Tom Hollander). When Foster accidentally announces on national TV that ‘war is unforeseeable,’ the British government is sent into a spiral of chaos and spin propagated by verbosely aggressive Director of Communications, Malcom Tucker (Peter Capaldi). Foster attempts to neutralise his ‘unforeseeable’ comment by telling the British public to prepare to ‘climb the mountain of conflict’ but soon finds himself bundled off to Washington on a fact-finder where he becomes both a pawn for the secret war committee and a poster-boy for the General and the Assistant Secretary for Diplomacy’s anti-war campaign.

Also starring Steve Coogan and Gina McKee

The Mighty Boosh film – Who could Robert Smith play?

Posted by LiveFor on March 2, 2009

I posted recently about the boys from The Mighty Boosh appearing in a film called The Bunny and The Bull. However, what I’d like to see is a fully Booshed up film.

The Mighty Boosh is an excellent piece of surreal, bizarre, but most of all laugh out loud funny television. It was created by and stars Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding and is directed by Paul King.

It has long been mooted that it will eventually reach the big screen and a little rumour from the boys shows that this may be moving forward.

Speaking at the NME awards – where The Mighty Boosh won Best TV Show – Noel Fielding talked about his dream casting for the movie spin-off. Noel Fielding is after Robert Smith, front man of The Cure, to play his uncle. Thinking about it that is pretty much spot on casting.

Steve Coogan is a producer of the TV Show so no doubt he will join Fielding and Noel Barratt in the film.

Click here to watch Noel chatting about it.

Of course there is no actual date, script or much else in place for this as far as I am aware, but it does sound promising doesn’t it (if any hardcore Boosh fans know any more then let me know).

Who else would you like to see in The Mighty Boosh film?
